Maybe an age restriction could’ve prevented most of these. Children up age six would be the most likely to stick their hands inside, so maybe age requirement of “children under 10 must be supervised at all times” could’ve worked.

There was man here in Minnesota who spent almost 4 years in prison for criminal vehicular homicide because his Toyota accelerated out of control killing a man, a 10yo boy and 6yo girl in 2006, right about the time that these incidents were beginning to be reported. Even the families of the victims believed him when these incidents started coming to light and tried to get him out of prison. The families of the victims and the family of the man who eventually got his conviction vacated ended up suing Toyota. I don’t remember if drivers in other states got wrongfully convicted of vehicular crimes when their Toyotas caused accidents, but Mr. Lee’s case made national news when he was freed from prison.

I’m sorry but if your car starts to run away you either put it in neutral or turn the key off. They’re ignoring the fact that some late 1990s/ early 2000s ford crown Vics did the same thing. Supposedly the us government was suing ford for an incident where a CVPI ran away from the secret service and an agent had to put it into a tree. Throttle by wire if it runs away can always be stopped or control regained by engaging neutral and taking the engine out of the equation

My older sister had a toy iron that actually plugged in and heated up. It was around 1954 that I plugged it in and left it sitting on the linoleum bedroom floor. It actually left a mark on the linoleum in the shape of the soleplate and my dad took it out of service. My grandson suffered serious head injuries in the rollover of a Ford Explorer equipped with Firestone tires. Later in that same week while he was hospitalized in Spokane the news about the defects started to break. We contacted our son-in-law, who hadn't yet heard, as he was holding vigil at the hospital.

I drove a ‘78 Ford Pinto for 4 years in college and took a ton of ribbing about the potential for explosion, but after some research I learned that the problem had been fixed in the ‘78 model year. It was a good car overall that finally died from exhaust system failure 6 months after graduation. Northern winters are unkind to vehicle undercarriages 😔

I had a pinto wagon as my first car. The hatchback was the one that had the fire problem. I drove that car from 1978 to 1989 all over the eastern Washington desert repairing fruit sorting and box stamping machines. I put 380k miles on it, had the engine and transmission rebuilt and it ran fine. It was really stable in snow with studs. My mother finally put her foot down and made me get rid of it. I’ve regretted that ever since. It was a gem of a car.

Ford knew the Pinto could explode when rear-ended, but didn't want spend money to fix the problem

That was because of Lee Iacocca specifically. He ordered the car couldn’t weigh an ounce over 2000 pounds. This decision left the rear woefully fragile. The actual truth was the pinto had to be going or hit at over 70 mph to actually rupture the fuel tank. However if the tail lights or brake lights were on it would start a short circuit that could ignite fuel vapor leaking from a low fill level gas tank.

In 1979, I bought a '71 Pinto for a whole $15. It needed brakes, the alternator was wired wrong, and a piece of floor under a seat mount had rotted out. took me about a week to work it all out and I had a cheap car to drive. Then I got the recall notice... the next day I was driving to work and I seen in my mirror a semi was having trouble stopping at a traffic light I was sitting at... needless to say I blew the light and got rid of the car shortly afterwards!

Another video that I would like to see is one where people have ordered an outfit from somewhere and then it wasn't what they ordered because it looked different. You could also include other items such as pet products that were not the right size and other things like that.
@bradleyvandivier5601
@bradleyvandivier5601 4 ай бұрын
I've had experience with two of these items. I had a Easy Bake oven in the early 90s. Mine came with a plastic push rod so my fingers never got close to the opening going in. And, I have experience with two of Toyota's vehicles. I work at one of the Toyota Motors Manufacturing plants. I will attest first hand that Toyota does pride itself in the quality of not only their vehicles, but also the work place. Auto parts used in Toyota's vehicles that are made by other companies can be a problem. I know of two instances in factory where the entire stock of a single part was rejected, twice, for two different problems with 400+ cars having to be retrofitted with good parts before they left the plant. They checked every car made for 2 days to make sure they got all of the bad parts. Unfortunately, bad designs that sometimes cause problems, such as "the gas pedal can become stuck" do happen. Something that happens only sometimes is difficult to catch during vehicle tests, even under rigorous testing, and only show up within months of real world driving.

It wasn't Firestone or the explorer itself. It was the Engineers at Ford who decided to put car tires on SUV's because it was cheaper and when they produced a lot of noise and some wobbling... Their solution (rather than recalling or owning up to it) they just under-inflated the tires, it caused instability at high speeds and the temperature to heavily increase and blow-out.

I miss my easy bake oven lol it was so fun. I do recall getting a cookie stuck under the little platform so that smelled fantastic until my Dad finally took it apart and fixed it. Oh, btw, yeah teach your kids not to stick their hands in it ffs! No different than a regular oven or stove.

Vietnam war, the M16 Assault Rifle was brought into service for the USMC and Army when at the time the rifle didn't go through any testing phase or lack thereof and the rifle constantly jammed, therefore many troops didn't like the M16. Until a less than few years later then came the revision called the M16A1 which added a forward assist to resolve all the jamming issues.

That's not why it jammed.. It was developed in a lab, and labs don't have mud/dust/sand.

I was rear-ended, in a 1972 Ford Pinto, the person who hit me was doing about 35 MPH. Nothing happened, except a small dent in the back of my car, and the whole front end of his fiberglass car being destroyed.

My mother is a mechanic and she was dealing with cars and knows that the Firestone incident isn’t Firestone it’s just ford didn’t want another recall and they have more money. Firestone told ford that the explorers could NOT handle a low psi but ford pushed it out and manufactured them anyway which led to the deaths of many

Too bad it was marketed to girls by featuring girls in ads and commercials, using girly colors. Didn’t they know that out of households, it’s either gender that are bakers? They cut the potential customers by half. That said they should’ve age restricted the Easy Bake Ovens. Maybe “children under age 10 (maybe 12) must be supervised” would’ve prevented most kids getting their small hands stuck and burnt.

Scratch this they should make toy ovens without the heating element. Or toy food made of plastic.
@whitewolf3051
@whitewolf3051 5 ай бұрын
@@gagefarmer9615 There were "ovens" with fake "food" just like that. No heating, plastic or foam food just to play with. It's just one company that made the ovens that can actually bake. Again, age restriction as well as supervision for really young children.

There’s a few things I need to say regarding those vehicle recalls notably the explorer and the Toyota issue. The ford explorer issues were partially user inflicted. People didn’t check their tire pressures as often as they should have. As a higher sitting truck based SUV the explorer had a higher center of gravity which made checking tires a more important factor. People didn’t bother and frequently the explorer would have under inflated tires. The combination of under inflation lead to higher temperatures in the tire which increased the risk for a blowout. Secondly people didn’t know how to handle a sudden blowout and their first reaction is to hit the brakes. In a high sitting SUV that’s a great way to flip over. What you actually do is if it’s in the front you hit the gas to transfer weight to the rear and you slowly pull over and coast to a halt. In a rear blowout slowly move to the shoulder while coasting. This was skills most drivers didn’t have despite the vehicle being festooned with warning labels. The Toyota accelerator problem stems from 1 incident in Southern California. A Prius driver claimed he couldn’t slow down after the CHP attempted a traffic stop. CHP used a cruiser rot slow him and stop the car. Post incident inspection was unable to produce the unintended acceleration in the car. I used non standard floor mats in my Tacoma for years with no issues aside from the occasional pull it if it looked too high up. Toyota even claimed they had to shave my pedal down after one recall. ( and they made a mess of my interior with plastic shavings to boot, I did replace that pedal assembly with a non shaved OEM part later). I’ve had 3 Toyotas in my lifetime and have never once experienced unintended acceleration.

It was just that one model 15 years ago. They changed the design in a way that was flawed. They changed it back after the recall. Some products don’t need updating. @weirdhistoryfood did an episode on the history of The Easy Bake Oven.

If people are talking about the Easy-Bake oven, that's human error, not the product! There are distinct instructions telling you that children have to be with an adult present, and that's a product is actually an oven
