I lived in Toronto for many years, leaving in 1995 for Nova Scotia. It is a totally different place to live in 2023, for sure. I remember the beautiful parks and ravines where there were many walking and biking trails. Cheaper accommodation can be found on the edge of city or suburban areas. Like any big city, it is always more costly to buy or rent downtown or close to downtown. I do miss the good old days of my Toronto life!

As a native Torontonian I really don’t like the people. I think we are extra nice to visitors and tourists because we think it is nice to have people visiting our city and want them to have a good impression but I don’t know. The politeness does not equate to being nice. I found people just as reserved and standoffish as people in Paris.

As ex Torontonian I can say 40k is poverty. No way to rent a studio. If there is need to live with roommates then job sucks and they is no reason to move. I am talking about economic migration not escaping war. It makes no sense to move if you need to live with roommates. Single needs aroung 70k for a decent life and childless couple 100k. This will allow to rent, go out with people, socialize, travel and live without food budget.

At 2:35 you say that a person needs 40,000$ before tax per year in Toronto!!! With that income, you rent a small studio, can't afford restaurants, shows, sport events even a car or Netflix. You stay home, cook and you watch reruns on KZbin. I left Toronto in 2008 because of the cost of living. Even when I mouved to Toronto in 1994, 40,000$ a year was not enough to ' live it up' in Toronto. Now all I can afford from my previous life in Toronto is to listen to CHFI on the internet. If you want to owne a house or a condo, drive a nice car, go see Lady Gaga or Drake, eat at trendy restaurants, take the plane and go on a nice vacarion every year ... sorry but you will need 150,000$ a year.

Hey! Not the uploader but I have spent decades in Toronto. As a general rule, I think the better question is to figure out which neighbourhoods are less safe, since most neighbourhoods are generally safe and family friendly. Since that campus is in a pretty remote location compared to downtown, I'd suggest doing some research about the neighbourhoods that are nearby to the campus and basing a decision on that.

Coming to Toronto will be a very huge mistake, you can’t find anything cheap pretty much unless it’s Jane and finch and the conditions will be horrible even if it’s 2000 dollars a month. The TTC is by far behind they can’t even finish the eglinton lrt construction for fuck sakes and they call a single 7.4 Kilometre extension in line 2 the best think Toronto can do, if your in Scarborough or in any suburb it’s best to have a fucking car unless you live in the heart of downtown Toronto or near a subway station. Also it’s funny how people consider Toronto as a “safe” city when it’s really not, but ik it’s like that in any other major city, but our government thinks we are New York which is also funny. According to orgs that study poverty, the bare minimum that one person needs to live here is $80k/yr. And Torontonians aren't unfriendly, they're busy. It's also possible to live here for one's entire life without ever speaking English or French; it's possible to be speaking to someone who doesn't understand you. Lastly, not sure why, if you're a local, you would pronounce every letter. It's Tahronho. Just own it

I came here to say the same. Especially about the friendliness part. We are very friendly. Not out in the wild as we are trying to get our stuff done, but when you meet people in a context of socializing, most people are very kind and not in a phoney way. I'm a Torontonian currently living in Vancouver and that's the biggest difference I've noticed. Sure they smile and say hello freely to strangers here, but then, nothing. Definitely easier to make real friends in Toronto. We are just very neighbourly. We look out for each other in Toronto, and we check in with folks.

It's better on a post card but once you live there it's a living nightmare... Pollution. Noise. Emergency sirens from paramedics (bringing overdose losers in the hospital or local drive by shootings), cops, fire department disturbing everything at night, day whenever for false alarms. Then you have robberies, losers and so on.....

People must know the truth about Canada Government destroyed social safety net. Then, moved to pensions, unemployment insurance, hospitals, education, children, emptied pockets of Canadians. Sold school grounds, turned into condos. Took away parks for condos, it Let housing prices skyrocket. But it's building subways like crazy.

In Toronto we call it the four oh f.....g one. In LA do you call it the four oh f.....g five? The two worst most congested highways in North American but it is also said that I95 and up through NJ is pretty bad too. 401 is world's busiest road.

@@pex3LA transit sucks your right but Toronto’s transit is just decent not good just decent it’s just a line and a u shaped subway line and maybe a short useless irrelevant line if you live in northern Etobicoke or most of Scarborough or a suburb you will need a car if you live in the heart of Toronto or live near a subway station then transit is good

I wish to point out that random attacks, gun discharges, car-jackings, car thefts, burglaries are on the rise in old T.O. The Metro Police has a gang squad so there are gangs here although perhaps not as visible. Please don't paint too much of a pretty picture of Toronto (Toronow) cuz there are definitely some bad areas you need to avoid and minding your own business. Like you say, Toronto is a big city, so. But having said that, TO is relatively safer than a lot of U.S. and Canadian cities nowadays.

Crap weather 6. Loads of homeless people 7. Crap / non existent public healthcare 8. A Prime Minister who cares more about his public appearance to other leaders than he does about the country thats becoming more and more like a third world country.
