Top 10 PS1 SHMUPS

This time I take a deep dive into the SHMUP library of one of my all time favorite consoles, the Sony Playstation, and look at the Top 10 best shooters you can play on it! There are a ton of SHMUPS on the PS1, so picking just 10 was not easy. Sit back, relax, and see my picks for the best PS1 shooters money can buy!

That's a really good list of shmups on the PS1 you got there, I'm especially a huge as fan of Einhander (my favorite shmup on the PS1 as well as my favorite shmup next to Radiant Silvergun). Seriously though, Einhander is basically the best Gundam shmup that is anything but Gundam, and the Makoto Kobayashi-esque mecha designs are just the icing on the cake.

It's really close, but I'd say Zanac or Einhander has the best PS1 OST for a SHMUP. There almost isn't a bad song between them.

Finally got around to watching. Amazing video. Just picked up like new copies of Raiden DX, Zanac x Zanac, and Einhander per your recommendation. I already own the Saturn ports of most the others on this list. I’ll Probably get Sexy Parodius on PSX or the Saturn soon too! Thanks for the amazing recommendations, once again. Keep these up. Wow the number one spot caught me off guard, often heard or read that the ps1 (and saturn for that matter) version of * game name censored for spoiler reasons* weren't all that good or at least compared to the arcade versions. And yeah ps1 indeed has a great shmup library and you did mention that you couldn't fit in all the good stuff. Still surprised r type delta and espcially gradius gaiden didn't make the cut! Strikers 1945 2 is one of my personal favorites and maybe better than sonic wings? Same developer (or at least mostly the same people making it). But (and maybe i should have started with this :D ) happy that a new vid is out and even with the above minor nitpicks or maybe better put just my personal preferences, i indeed enjoyed it! Looking forward to your next vid, but def understand life does take many interesting turns and i might have to be patient. But the content is very much appreciated!

Thanks! I certainly have never had an issue with either console port of Dodonpachi. Funny enough, I was having some technical issues with my capture card losing sync a lot while recording so I actually played the arcade port of Dodonpachi (via MAME) and aside from the visuals looking more crisp and subtle framerate differences, my experience was minimally better than compared to the Saturn or PS1 port. I'm sure someone on system11 has meticulously broken down all the differences, but my experience is roughly the same across all versions. As mentioned in my video, this could have been a top 20 or 25 before the quality of the shmups became unworthy of being recommended. Both those games would have made a top 20. I'm admittedly not a big Rtype guy, but Delta is probably my favorite in the series. Gradius is hit or miss for me, but I still really enjoy Gaiden, just not enough for it to crack the top 10.

I just imported the PS4 version of DoDonPachi and it is magnificent…highly recommended and plays without issues on US PS4

I paid $300 for Harmful Park about 6 years ago and I’m happy I did. It’s one of the most expensive games in my collection now.

Most of these games are practically unaffordable. But having this list is great to be able to track down the ROMS. Parodius is the only franchise ive splurged on so far, for schumps, all japanese versions too, just could not afford the US.

I´ve heard the Playstation versions of several shoot ´em ups are really good, sometimes even better playing than the Saturn games. I´m not very good at them, but I own a few. One of my favourites is Gradius Gaiden, it´s a cool PS exclusive part of the series.
