5:09 “hedging your bet” is almost the complete opposite of “pushing your luck” Hedging your bet means that whatever the outcome, you should end up doing okay…. While pushing your luck means it’s riskier, but if you get the outcome you want, it will really really pay off

44:35 - There were 6 Stooges, 3 at a time in the act. 3 were brothers - Moe Howard (Moses Horwitz), Shemp Howard (Samuel Horwitz), and Curly Howard (Jerome Horwitz). The act was started by Moe with his brother Shemp and their frien Larry Fine (Louis Feinberg). They were the Stooges from 1923-1932. Shemp left the act in 1932 with issues with their MGM co-Star, Ted Healy, and Curly was brought in. In 1934, they split from Healy and signed on with Columbia Pictures. In 1946, Curly’s career was ended by a massive stroke, and Shemp came back as a favor to his brother. Curly died in 1952, and Shemp died of a sudden massive heart attack in 1955. Joe Besser (Jessel Besser) was one of Columbia’s few comedian’s who still did shorts in 1956, so the executives forced him on the Stooges because they were contracted for 4 more shorts that year. His character was a whinny character he had developed in his own prior shorts, and he had a contract clause that kept him from being hit in physical comedy. Many Sttoge fans do not care for his 16 shorts he did from 1956-1957 (released 1957-1959). Finally, Curly Joe DeRita (Joseph Wardell) joined after Besser left when his contract with Columbia was up. Moe and Larry were ready to retire when Larry discovered Curly Joe. The 3 Stooges in films, shows, Scooby Doo and other cartoons from 1959 - 1970 were Moe, Larry, and Curly Joe. - Help from Wikipedia 😊

Cubitos is probably my #1. Like Mystic Vale before it, John D. Clair does a masterful job of making it strategic. Sometimes pushing your luck and busting would be better than your current turn, and you can build around busting.

Just to confirm for Celestia: Zee was right, Tom was wrong (which is just nice to say for a change ;). You roll the dice, then everybody tries to figure out if the captain has the cards to beat it. Then the captain reveals if he can make it or not. Captain is the only one who can't get out. The only exception is when you are the only player on the ship. Then you can decide to get out BEFORE you roll the dice. The special cards make it really fun and one of them does allow the captain to pass the 'captain-hood' to someone else, which means he could then jump ship. This is definitely my favorite push-your-luck game, everybody always seems to really get into it and it is really simple to get to the table. (Completely unrelated: the most pure push-your-luck co-op game I know is Rescuing Robin Hood and it does make for an interesting tension.)

The beautiful push your luck part of mystic vale is that you see the top card of your deck which may be just the card you need to add to your field to give you that extra bonus to get that jucy card you've had your eyes on. but the second card of the deck may make you bust if you choose to go for it. When that top card is something you've invested a lot into and has a full three great advancements it hard to not push your luck, but if you do you may bust and not get to use it at all!

@@BlueGiantMediawell, the whole game is only about pushing your luck. There are three areas where you can play during your turn (4 with leviathan) and all areas are about pushing your luck. So I guess that Zee either hates the game now 😁 or that he hasn’t thought of it while making this list.

I love Celestia, my only issue is that I believe the special ability cards all have different times they can be played. Like before/after dice roll, before captain reveals cards, etc. I just wish they wrote on those cards telling you when they can be played vs having to look it up in the rulebook for everyone. It's the only hiccup in an otherwise smooth, simple game.

Captain Flip DOES have that 'bust' outcome -- if you acquire 3 or more Gunner tiles and can't mitigate that, you BUST (get 0).

We can all agree, "Quacks suck." J/k. But most of the times we played it, it overstayed its welcome, the choices of what tokens to buy doesnt seem to have that much significance, and the player who capitalize on the rat tails the most, wins.

Interesting. That hasn’t been my experience at all. Rat tails have helped players catch up, but I don’t think anyone has ever gone from last to first. It’s always gone by super quickly as well. But different people have different experiences with games. It sometimes seems that it doesn’t matter what chips to buy, but the winner of the games I’ve played usually invest in moths where it can earn a ruby and even move up your dropper, and the bird skulls that let you take a certain number of chips out of the bag and choose one to use next.

@conniew5894 I should emphasize, "most of the times we played it." Just our experience. Glad that's not the case with your group. For us, the game just rewards the folks who aren't doing well too much. I had two games where a player was in the lead the entire games but then busted in the last round and lost to someone who busted multiple times but because of the rat tails, was able to stay close to the lead. I probably just hate catch-up mechanics in general especially one so overt and IMO, too rewarding, as Quacks's

Invincible: The Hero-Building Game would’ve made my list. I voted for that and Clank! Catacombs. The game I was wondering if it fit push your luck is Return to Dark Tower. In the dungeons you can push forward and risk dying or leave the dungeon. It’s a pretty significant part but is it a big enough component of the game to count? Finally, really happy to see Atlantis Rising. Great cooperative game

I agree. In the end it was just an over wrought push your luck game in my book. I want my push your luck games to get right down to it. I love push, can't stop, port royale, Ten and those style push your luck games. Quacks just felt like it was trying to make a push your luck game for gamers who usually turn their nose up at other push your luck games, and boy did it work. I may have rated it a 5.5, but I'm obviously in the minority. People LOVE this game. I traded mine with my friend for Deception Murder in Hong Kong.
