Hi, I just started watching your videos yesterday but already I am encouraged. I also currently work in outbound telecommunications but hoping to climb into the web development field. I am on codecademy and I have enjoyed the courses, especially javascript (even if it kicked me sometimes lols), but to hear your journey really inspires me and gives me the hope I need to continue my pursuit in the field. God bless you and your family and everything you do and keep shining!

(1) positive attitude, (2) demonstration of drive, (3) a women of color in tech - this is a BIG one, and (4) authenticity. The list is longer. Thank you and keep IT going. Really appreciate you. And for people concerned about age, skill level, interview issues, etc -> There are SOOOOOOOOOO many job opening and need for developers of all levels and all skills that (no matter who you are where you are in your journey) you can get a job and start a career in tech, coding, development, software engineering. So, stop looking for excuses and obstacles. Just get started, get in, raise you income while you find your Niche and create a career.

Awesome! Can you discussed the pay for entry level or junior level web developers? What to expect or not expect. This is a sensitive topic but I think it is also important that employers don't cheat us on the pay rate. Anyway, thank you for taking the time to make these videos! Cheers from Germany👌

Great question! I will make a video on this very soon, so make sure you are subscribed to get notified. Pay will vary GREATLY depending on where you live but in the USA, I notice JR Web Dev positions easily start around $50,000 - $70,000 annually. From there, your experience and skills can help you increase to top out around $120,000.

Love your videos! I came across your day in the life video a while back and I wondered if you were still a developer. I am just getting into this myself, learning HTML and CSS. I hope to be a front-end web developer, giving myself at least 18 months to learn what I need to do. Can you please make a video about how you structured your learning? Like a roadmap that you used?

@KimComplete4 жыл бұрын
I would say just to learn HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to learn front end then you can use KZbin a little bit but honestly there's not many resources out there for it. The best way would probably be to find a Udemy course on it. I love Udemy.com! I, personally, learned on the job.

Hi Kim. I was inspired so much by your other video that I just signed up with Codecademy Pro. Just a quick clarifying question; when you completed your Codecademy course (I realize the course names and content vary slightly) did you learn Javascript? Or just html and CSS?

Hello, yes I learned some intro JavaScript but I took another one of their courses to dive deeper into that.

Hello Again! So I have completed the Codecademy course you recommended! I feel relatively confident that I could get a design spec sheet and convert it into a webpage. (I know I still need to practice and become faster and have cleaner code). I have a few questions for you, if you don't mind? 1. What do junior front-end developers mostly do? Do you mostly take design specs and create websites? 2. Do junior front-end developers write a lot of javascript? (I still need to learn javascript). 3. What type of work were you doing when you first landed a job, and what have you graduated to since? I'll be sending you some money, because I appreciate your time and your helpfulness! Thanks
@jthom00274 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video and information in it. I'm about 75% finished with the "How to build a website" skill path on codecademy. Just so I have this right, did you get your first web development job just knowing html and css? I feel like I have those two understood pretty well, just didn't know if there were any languages you have to know before starting even the most basic jobs. Thanks
@KimComplete4 жыл бұрын
I'm glad this video was helpful! I knew a little bit of JavaScript, I also took a separate CodeCademy course for that. However, for the job that I applied to, JavaScript was not a requirement. Therefore, I started knowing more than I needed to and was able to expand on my JS knowledge on the job and now that's primarily what I use! The key here is: NEVER STOP LEARNING!
@jthom00274 жыл бұрын
@@KimComplete Oh awesome! So your first job was based on mainly html and css?
@KimComplete3 жыл бұрын
@@jthom0027 yes it was. As a junior Dev, most of my job was to just update things in an existing page. If something was broken (probably from a typo or outdated info) I would go into the code and update it. I also provided my opinion on how to update the design to be more appealing. As a Jr Dev, that's pretty typical.

Your portfolio from 2018 wwckim.github.io/2018/ So you said you had some potential employers say "wow! You did that?" But this is an important question I need you to answer, is there any JavaScript in any of those? Did you understand JavaScript at the time when you did those? I'm thinking about becoming a coder and I'm just trying to understand how hard the journey is going to be.

I took a look at your 2017 portfolio, the first project you ever did, is it just html and css? Is there any JavaScript in it? You said some potential employers saw it and said "wow you did that!!!"???
@KimComplete4 жыл бұрын
Just HTML and CSS. In fact, the whole portfolio itself has no JavaScript either. As I mentioned, I didn't think my portfolio was impressive at all, but I was applying to Junior Dev positions and a lot of people come to interviews literally not even knowing any code. Sometimes, employers are just looking for someone who can do SOMETHING and are not just lying on their resume.
@elon21594 жыл бұрын
@@KimComplete so you got your first job when you only knew html and css? Is that possible in the industry?
@KimComplete4 жыл бұрын
@@elon2159 correct, yes it is possible. It was a Junior position. If you are willing to start at the bottom and work your way up, there are jobs out there. You have to look hard and never stop learning more. You won't be in the industry very long without learning JavaScript but there are jobs that don't require much and can get you in the door to start
