Those mintage figures are for the total number of coins minted for the year, but of course does not necessarily dictate the number of coins struck BEARING a particular date. Also, the 1863 and 1863/1 are much rarer than indicated. The 1850 in higher condition is VERY rare in high grade and eclipses the others you've rated even higher and number struck probably much lower than the others you've mentioned.

Just started collecting, i have acquired an 1887 jubilee shilling which i know isn't rare, but mine has a strange bump on the top of the rim at dead centre. A mint mistake perhaps? Or is it just a copy? Otherwise it's in very crisp condition. Paid fourteen pounds for it.

Hi, thanks for reply. The bump is very specific and stands proud from the coin, it is very uniform and looks almost as if it has been produced on purpose. It is also exactly at twelve o'clock position.

It is almost certainly because it was mounted as a piece of jewellery at sometime.

Wow I only have 2 of them, a 1905 in Fine condition and a very worn 1827, but my shillings go back to 1551/3 and I have 2 Elizabeth I's, a James 1, 2 Charles I and a 1685 James II shilling.

I have collected shillings for quite a few years so have all of these 10, also the 1817 GEOE & I/S, 1729 & 1751 both far rarer than the book would suggest. Almost all recorded over dates, and some not recorded 1860/00 being one. Lots of legend errors too. They are out there and can be found if you put in the effort. Happy hunting.

I'd have to have a look but the oldest Shilling I have, from memory is a 1887 Queen Victoria Jubellie head, hardly rare. I do have a Edward V11 Shilling that's in very good nick but I am not sure of the date and will need to check but I'd remember if it was 1905. I'd like a 1905 Half Crown as well.
