I LOVE YOUR videos. Like these have been THE most helpful to me to understand how to feed my dog raw and not get too overwhelmed. My only concern at the moment is that she doesn't like fruits and especially berries at all. They're supposed to be awesome for them, but she'll turn her nose on strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, peaches :/ The only workaround I've found is to cut in smaller pieces and coat them in Yogurt and freeze. But she's a maltese, these pieces are bite-size, so they're tiny, and time consuming. And if the yogurt smells of fruit, she won't eat them. Do you have any recommendations of stuff that'll hide the smell or convince her to eat fruits?

My dog doesn't care for them much either lol. No big deal honestly, they aren't necessary to balance, but you could always try blending them up with the veggie blend if you make one, or just blending them up and freezing them by themselves as a little frozen treat.

@@PawsofPrey I recently adopted a frighten 6-months, 6lbs Burmese mix runt of litter. He had to fight for his share with 3 much bigger brothers, but he immediately loved new menu. I started with 1/2 can, 1/2 cooked chicken and raw organs, supplemented with crushed flax, pumpkin, chia seed and cooked carrot. After 5 weeks, he is all homemade with a variety of muscle/organ proteins and I am experimenting with fish and neck bones. He has a voracious appetite and fill out nicely, his coat shines like glass, and stool and elimination regular and odor-free. Hanuman is now playing and purring like a King panther! My dog would eat whole pheasants, feathers and all. Except the gizzard which had gravel and raw grain/beans in it. My cat would eat whole quail, just leaving the gizzard which had gravel in it, and the feet. And the eggshell from the egg that was developing inside the quail (which he ate) They’re generally too much food for a cat for one meal but he was a pig who always tried to eat too much (by stealing others and helping himself to the packets when I was serving). He just about managed a whole quail but was definitely full after that. The dog would eat the quail feet and eggshell, everything except the gizzard. They might have eaten the gizzards if I’d removed the gravel, but I didn’t think to at the time. (Was still squeamish about whole prey - I’m vegan - but I did get desensitised eventually).

Looking into raw feeding from the start my next puppy (should come in ~2.5 months). How would you recommend the usage of treats for its training? An idea would be to blend the entire (balanced) meal and then sort of give it small pieces. Wouldn't this food end up being too "mushy" if I wouldn't want to remove the hemoglobin and other juices that come from the food? This is also an inconvenience/dangerous when setting would-be treats in the floor for certain training exercises. What other option would you recommend? I would think cooked meat as treats on top of the raw food, or change to raw food once the puppy is old enough and willing to take play as an alternative reward during training

I actually found a raw diet kibble! The brand name is nature’s variety instinct the raw brand and it’s a pure raw diet kibble with no extra ingredients! And they have it for dogs and cats! (Beef version) The ingredients for dogs are: beef, beef liver, pumpkin seeds, beef spleen, carrots, apples, butternut squash, ground flaxseed, dried kelp, broccoli, apple cider vinegar, salmon oil, rosemary extract, blueberries, and dried chicory root. The use monomorillonite clay for shape, mixed tocopherols as a preservative, and freeze dry it. (Rabbit version)For cats the ingredients are: rabbit (including ground rabbit bone), pork, pork liver, pumpkin seeds, carrots, apples, butternut squash, rabbit liver, rabbit kidney, rabbit lung, dried kelp, broccoli, apple cider vinegar, salmon oil, rosemary extract, blueberries, and dried chicory root. The use monomorillonite clay for shape, mixed tocopherols as a preservative, and freeze dry it. And they have plenty of flavors too like beef, rabbit, pork, fish, etc… The point is I think you should definitely try this new stuff because it is amazing! The price for a small bag is about 15 dollars and the price for a large bag is about 30 dollars. .

I have an 9 week old Staffy pup who struggles to finish his meals. Do you feed raw foods in a separate bowl and kibble in a different bowl? My pup doesn't like moist kibble. He does like a little sweet potato and little carrot, not a big fan of rice or zucchini.
@BobbiMac
@BobbiMac 10 ай бұрын
It’s not advised to feed kibble at the same meal as raw food. They digest at different rates, and kibble is more likely to cause the deadly disease bloat. If you want to feed cooked food, cooking rice with lentils and vegetables with a lambs kidney or two in the water made it delicious to my dog. Even better if you add a bone to the water as well (but use a bone that the dog shouldn’t have, such as large ox leg bones, or ox hooves, because if it’s an edible bone he’d prefer you give it him raw to chew on. Or buy a lot of chicken feet, give some to him raw and make stock with the rest).

Weight bearing bones are big leg bones from large animals such as cows, bison and horses. Which can fracture the teeth. Even wolves usually don’t eat those for that reason. When food supplies are low, and wolves are forced to chew on the leg bones, they too sometimes fracture their teeth. Some say the same applies to hooves from large animals, others say they’re safe. For cats turkey leg bones are too hard, but most won’t bother trying to chew them anyway. They’ll just eat the meat off a turkey drumstick and sometimes nibble the knuckle. Some say knuckle bones from cows/bison/horse are safe, others say they shouldn’t be given either. They’re certainly not as bad as the leg marrow bones which dogs will put in their mouth and try to bite down on. They don’t try to eat the knuckles, just nibble the bits off them, and chew on them for fun.

I have a question. Most videos I’ve been watching on the raw diet really pushes poultry for its benefits and price point but my dog developed an allergy to poultry a couple years ago, this could be just to the processed chicken in the food and treats but I want to be careful with poultry until I know for sure. I’m going to try giving him hearts and gizzards as a treat at first to see how he does but until then when making his raw food diet what protein is best as a substitute?? I bought so far steak, ground beef, pork bone neck, the chicken hearts and gizzards, eggs, and sardines. Veggies I got spinach, kale, carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower and fruits I got pears, peaches, blueberries and strawberries….This is just to start. If someone can kindly let me know if this is a good start and again what to do about the slow introduction with the poultry and which substitute is best id really appreciate it!!!

Here in Germany EVERY book, website, raw feeder and what not tell you to absolutely not feed raw pork and boar because of the Aujeszky's disease (pseudorabies). But I saw that pretty much everybody in the US feeds raw pork, so my question is, if this disease isn't a thing over there? Or is it just really rare? (Hope you are actually from the us lol)

I just took small samples of the raw food and just shoved it in my cat's mouth because they were hating it at first too. You just have to be persistent and probably a little more aggressive. What age feed raw diet to a puppy
@BobbiMac
@BobbiMac 10 ай бұрын
They can start on raw immediately when weaning. Start with ground up meat but offer meaty bones to chew on as well. Once they’re able to eat the meaty bones you can stop giving the ground up. The big pieces and meaty bones are better for their teeth, they clean the teeth and massage the gums (chewing stimulates bloodflow to the gums which enables the immune system to fight bacteria more effectively). Whereas ground meat sticks to their teeth and doesn’t clean them at all.

My dog loved a cooked pot of rice, lentils and vegetables if it was cooked with a lambs kidney or two in the water. Especially if some bone was added to the water as well. I agree raw is better but its more expensive. So I’d give some cooked to the large dogs to fill them up and my cats and smaller dogs sometimes wouldn’t eat what I bought unless I cooked it (lambs kidneys, salmon heads, chicken or Turkey feet).

I read that if I choose to feed something reproductive, like an egg, it shouldn't be the regular eggs we eat as it can contain chemicals to disinfect and preserve. Don't take my word completely this is just what I know from my experience researching but organic eggs (the brown ones) are always ideal, both for dogs' consumption and ours! but feeding regular white eggs to our dogs shouldn't be a problem. I believe the only problem with it is that the egg shell is essentially stripped of its nutritional value (so no point of adding it). Other people still recommend adding it though as it can serve as a calcium supplement for our dogs. I personally grind up the white egg shells still (but not the whole thing) and sprinkle it on their meals. My dogs are doing great!!

There are so little evidence proving one or the other, and the few studies that have been made is made by people that have a hand in selling products that would be affected by the results... I'm personally amazed at the fact that we can't even definitively say what is best for our pets, it's quite disturbing, especially for us pet owners that just want the best for our companions.
