Here's the thing about Caligula: yes, he was a sadistic emperor, but it's hard to tell how much of what we know is historical fact & how much is political slandering. The Roman senators HATED Caligula, to the point that they had him assassinated only 4 years into his reign. Though by all accounts, the public loved him.
