I had a really cool moment the other day while I was in line at Target with a WWE figure. The woman behind me, probably in her 40s asked, "Do you open those?" Me, expecting to be mocked said confidently, "Yes. Yes I do." She went on to explain how cool it is, and that her husband is also an avid WWE collector and she finds it respectable that people embrace their inner child and have fun with it. I was blown away, and it made me feel pretty cool about my hobby.

Lol oh I had a fun moment yesterday. On my way home I stopped at the store to figure shop and I see this couple standing there in the toy section. The wife quickly responds in a nervous manner where here for the kids. I responded it's ok I'm here for the my action figures too just like guys. They laughed and acknowledged that there kids where just there cover and respond smart thinking.

Top reason for a grown man to collect action figs: Being an adult is always doable, but always hard. Collecting figs is proof positive that your inner child isn't dead, bloated, and putrefying, like so many adult men in this country who can't carry a conversation about anything other than their "real job" and ESPN. Grown men owe it to themselves to make themselves happy however the eff they want...as long as what makes them happy isn't heroin, or hurting people, or causes morbid obesity, or some crazy s#!% like that. Do you fellas. As long as you aren't out breaking laws or making yourself unhealthy, you don't owe explanations for a damn thing. I made this comment before I even watched the vid, and I'm delighted to hear Mike reiterating some same key points.

Every month before my dad disappeared he'd take us to toys R us to pick out a toy. I wasn't a hot wheels kid or a remote control car kid nor did I want sports gear because my father didn't have us play or watch it. I just liked action figures. I still collect today and it reminds of that happy time I missed.

I feel like collecting action figures is mostly specific to 80s and 90s kids because that is the time action figures really were at their biggest influence on kids. Most of our favorite cartoons were actually toy advertisements, and for us growing up in that time, action figures were how we connected to the things we loved. I still collect action figures now in my 30s because nostalgia is a hell of a drug, but also, somewhere around 2016, it seemed like we were starting to get more definitive versions of action figures we had been wanting sense the 80s and 90s.

I started collecting roughly about 6 months ago. My four year old daughter is always just as stoked to go on Toy Hunts. Every Target run my wife always knows to meet us at our spot (Collectors Spot) haha. She still doesn’t quite get it 100%. But the fact that me and my daughter have a similar passion for it is enough for her. Thank you for giving us collectors a voice! Subscribed!

I also think its a very good way of coping with disabilities or mental issues. As a ptsd sufferer, I have uncontrollable shaking on occasion. Posing a figure I like or just holding it in my hand stops the shaking. It is a good, healthy way to cope

I'm 54, been collecting for about 12 years, and when people find out I collect action figures, they're so into my collection and want to see pictures. Xmas comes around , secret Santa at work, co-workers contact my wife and ask her what I might want or need and she collects also. It's a great, safe , fun hobby.

My main go is chug Transformers and more recently DC Universe stuff. It truly is just a way to capture your childhood in real time. To me (and I'm sure many others) I dont really see them as toys because I dont really mess with them too much, more so, they're a way of mentally time traveling back to a time when the world was still big. It helps tremendously that Masterpiece (while being way the hell out of my price range and doing nothing for me whatsoever) That hasbro decided to step their game up on Transformers with the Siege line thats now lead us into Legacy. Its a damn good time to be a collector, no matter what niche property you're into. Also, you've earned a sub, great stuff my dude

I collect because, since I was 5 years old in 1971 I was and still am enamored with the colorful larger than life characters. And in the last 20 years to see them be represented in a physical 3D poseable copy of what I have been reading for 51 years. It is something I never thought would ever happen. A dreamers dream come true. Every time I see another character being offered I am a 5 year kid again loving the characters all over again. And it makes my comic book reading even more enjoyable and entertaining.

Man my kids definitely love going toy hunting for our collection. We don't just buy any toys but we also hit the clearance aisle. We've found $30 barbies for 6 bucks. When we play dolls or action figures we have a blast. I can definitely relate to being the dad that understands how to play.

My significant other not only supports it, but encourages me expecially when Mattel has a new limited exclusive motu drop. She's a big Barbie collector in her own right. I scored one hell of a good woman! I collect for nostalgia. When I see my figures, it reminds me of Christmas morning in the 80's. Birthday's in the 80's and the people that were there that have passed on sense then. He-Man isnt just a guy with the muscles. He-Man reminds me of a weekday afternoon in 1983, going to a store called The Fair and my grandmother buying him for me. Figures are memories for me just carved into plastic. My collection gives me that same feeling as all those years ago.

2 things I love collecting are toys and blu-ray's / visual media .... My visual media gets my imagination running to do new displays and the toys/figures remind me its time to watch the visual media again . Another thing I love is how for the most part, us toy collectors are good people. We still have that connection to the kid in us that wanted to be like our heroes and uphold good .

The Reason I collect....well it all started when I was about 7 years old, my parents would go above and beyond for Christmas. At first it was Star wars. Seems like I had all the figures. Me and my older brother had the Millennium Falcon, x wing fighters , Vaders Tie fighter .We even had the lame cloud car. Remember the Darth vader caring case...yeah we had it and it was filled up. The whole Christmas was star wars themed down to the sheets on our beds. We really didn't appreciate what we had. I mean we took the Millennium falcon apart in about two days after Christmas. Now afew Christmases later we Got Gi. Joe and this time we were a little bit older and we took care of our stuff. Boy...it seemed like we had all of the Joe's and Cobra figures between the both of us. Then my parents broke up... so that broke up our collection. Eventually my brother grew up and gave me all his Joe's. I had them all! But because my mother was a single parent we lost alot of stuff in storage....including all my action figures. Slow my mother would buy me figures here and there but the only figure that I had for a loooong time was the secret wars Dr. DOOM figure. And eventually I even lost him. Now I'm grown and I can reclaim my figures with way better articulation!

Quite honestly I was terrified of what my girlfriend would say when she walked into my apartment. Yeah we had been friends for about 6 years but never really hung out just together until we started seeing each other. She gives me all kinds of crap about it, saying “I’m obsessed” and all that BUT it’s all in good fun and she has even contributed to my collection in her own way (she refuses to buy figures because she’s afraid of buying duplicates but for Christmas she got me all kinds of Power Rangers stuff like hoodies and blankets, stuff I can actually use AND express myself). I really appreciate you sharing the reasons you collect, Mike. I'm 52 now and I collect Hasbro Marvel Legends. I started collecting ToyBiz MLs in 2007 and as Hasbro took over I gradually sold all my ToyBiz MLs I've been a fan of all things Marvel since I was kid and now as an adult the main reasons I collect is : 1) I have my favorite Marvel superheroes in 6" figure form. 2) Collecting is a great hobby. Just recently I started collecting GI JOE Classified figures( I have you to thank) yet only the ones that were my favorite as a kid in 3.75" in which I had a bunch along with a few vehicles. When I saw the video with you posing Stalker, it brought back great memories because Stalker is my favorite GI JOE. A great video, Mike.

Hey Mike, great video. I only have a few reasons I collect. #1 I enjoy it #2 It gets me out the house and I get a little bit of exercise #3 I love the feeling of finding a figure I've been hunting forever for. I just recently found the Phantom figure. Loved it. #4 Guys like you keep me constantly hyped for the hunt. #5 It's a type of therapy for me. After multiple deployments, Iraq and a divorce, collecting kept me from having a mental breakdown, which was looming at my doorstep. #6 This is literally my childhood come to life. Marvel, DC, Star Wars, GI Joe. I love it all. At the end of the day, if you love it and it makes you happy, do it. Who cares what other people think. I know I don't.

Everyone collects something. Cars, watches, wine... It's just hard to wrap your head around a collection that you don't understand. Some people have watches or shoes worth more than my entire toy collection. Different strokes for different folks.

My wife actually got me into serious collecting. She'd bought my most expensive figures for me as gifts. Ironically, none of my kids have any interest in toys what so ever. Neither do any of their friends. 🤷‍♂️
