hey, cool video. I have some thoughts about "investing" in current Lego sets and hoping for a good ROI. Currently there is a lot of people that do these type of investment , which means that there is a lot of retired sets available on the market. People who really wanted these sets already bought them and they won't be spending extra money on sets they didn't buy in the first place. You would have to wait for a new generation of Lego fans to arrive, and even then only collectors with lost of cash would pay few times over the RRP. You would have to have sets that you are certain will go back in fashion and have lots of them too, I get with the stuff pre-Lego boom, so pre - 2020/21, but current sets, I just can;t see a massive ROI that would be meaningful . Just my thoughts, keep up good work :)

Valid points, However I could say that there’s new Lego collectors coming into the hobby everyday around the world, you don’t necessarily have to wait for a new generation. There’s people who just find out about it or just start enjoying it at all ages, I think the demand is and will always be there for this. You may not be making 10x on everything like if you bought original Lego sets 😅 but there’s lots of easy 2 x sales to be had, even without retired sets if you keep your eye on the ball on what’s popular and going out of stock etc 😃

I got the Batcave last year, I saw people had mixed feelings about it but I thought it looked unusual and there was my fav Catwoman from the series as Michelle Pfeiffer. So I took the $ pain for future build if it was not a great investment. Glad I did it, but it does not mean the set will be sold , I'll keep it sealed for as long until i retire.

My Costco had a pallet full of the blue Bolide for $30 in September 2023. I didn’t recognize what was going on with this set until this year and don’t live near a Lego store so I only have five. 😱 I also liked the Sailboat, but kept waiting for a discount from Target. Never saw one, so I only have my five from Lego. Killed it on the Pink Parrot though. Late to the game on the Wheezes set but still managed to get 10. Just wasn’t feeling the theme like a lot of others (as you pointed out). Hey it’s almost like Target exclusives are good!

I didn’t get any, the sales volume on Amazon for that set was too low for my liking. Still could do well, not much supply out there, but to double your money after fees and shipping, you’ll need a really good discount IMO

Nice list! I got the blue bugatti as a gwp in a store in Belgium. I sold it for 40 and was happy with that. Maybe I should have done some more research! Have you considered the Mirabel Madrigal brickhead? This set is marked as retiring/retired in the states, but in Europe it isn't. I'm hoping that it sells out without a lot of people being aware of it here - I have 13 of them.

Dang! Wonder why they were giving them away as GWPs. I just have 18 of Mirabel Madrigal, it was looking iffy on wether that set would retire or not for a lot of the year, but it looks to be retiring 👍 I think it will do fine, but would be much better if Encanto 2 was coming out anytime soon.

I think you're missing a key flaw in multiple low value sets, and that is the time/effort to post 35 mechs and the hassle that comes with that. Yes, larger sets are a higher risk, but I'd rather sell 1 Mos Cantina, than the 30 mechs

I sell on Amazon and utilize FBA. For me it is not much more effort, but for people who fulfill their own orders it is more of a time factor.

Great analysis. Can you do a video on when you decide to sell and what your price point is? I've seen people say 1-2 years hold time. It almost seems smart to flip now with some of these returns. I've seen a few sets get the retirement bump, and then new sellers enter market and they drift down resulting in lower prices 1 year from now.

Thanks! That’s a great topic, my investing strategy is to buy sets at a low enough price so that I’m able to sell them for double my money after shipping and fees within a year to year and a half. Many of the sets I’ve invested in this year I’m already able to sell for double my money which is amazing! I am selling some inventory now, an example of what I’m selling are my Sonic BrickHeadz. The cultural relevance is high for Sonic right now with the new movie out and I don’t expect prices to get much higher than now in 2025. The Stranger Things BrickHeadz set is a great example. It retired as the last season was airing and hype was at an all time high with it selling 3x over MSRP. The price still hasn’t gotten back to that peak and it’s been 2+ years. Not exactly the same since the Sonic franchise is stronger and has a larger following, but I think the same principle applies. 40627 is at $33 on Amazon, 3x+ MSRP on a $9.99 BrickHeadz is a great exit opportunity, especially if your average cost was $6-$7. I doesn’t get much better than that for $9.99 BrickHeadz unless you’re holding for 3+ years, then some could have legged up to $50+.

Thanks! I rarely drive to buy sets, I’ve found my time is better spent ordering online than chasing in store clearance deals for a small handful of sets. Time is through the roof haha, I spend several hours a day thinking abt/doing things related to LEGO investing. Storage is free, I store them at my residence. Too early to say if I bought any sets that I will regret, one set I could see regretting buying is Clone Commander Cody, we’ll see how much it appreciates with all the supply out there.

@ Retailers shipping Lego sets in plastic bags with no outer cardboard box really boils my p*ss! Do you have this issue state side?

@@AdamBurgess-p3g not too prevalent of an issue, but Kohl’s sends a lot of small orders in bags. Just have to place larger orders or order for in store pickup to avoid it.

The strong demand for the Star Wars theme is great, but unfortunately many are overbought by investors. There are still some that are promising IMO, especially the 3 mechs :)
