His wish gets caught by a guardian angel and that guardian angel creates a friend for him: a Laughing Jack in the Box. The next morning, Isaac meets the technicolored clown. His mother doesn't believe him when he tells her about Jack. However, when his mother leaves, Laughing Jack returns to his side. Later on, when Jack and Isaac are playing pirates in the backyard, the neighbor's cat sneaks into the garden and while Jack and Isaac are playing, pretending the cat is an enemy spy, Jack accidentally kills it because Isaac says to not let it go. As they stared at the cat's body, Isaac starts laughing. Jack says something about his mother being mad about finding the neighbor's cat dead in her garden and Isaac shovels the cat back over the fence into the neighbor's yard. Later that night, Isaac is summoned by his mother. After being shouted at, it is decided that Isaac would be sent to boarding school the next day, but he can't take Laughing Jack with him. He promises to come back for him and Laughing Jack promises to wait. In the span of 13 years, Laughing Jack waited for Isaac to return and was also the silent witness to Isaac's father murdering his mother. Laughing Jack started to lose all of his color, going from bright to faded. When Isaac did return to the house, he had forgotten about Laughing Jack. And Laughing Jack, being made to change with Isaac as he grew, felt nothing as Isaac felt nothing. One night, Isaac brings back a young woman from a bar. He tries to come onto her, but she fights back. This pisses Isaac off and he kills her, bludgeoning her head in with a candelabra. Isaac fashions the remains of the woman, having removed the bones via a chemical bath, into a macabre armchair. Laughing Jack became witness to the several murders that Isaac would conduct in his childhood bedroom. As time had passed, the shelf on which Laughing Jack's box stood had grown weak, and one day, the shelf broke. Isaac was cleaning the mess when he found the faded Laughing Jack in a box, and he foolishly starts to turn the crank. When the box opens, nothing is inside, but just like when they had first met, Laughing Jack emerges a few moments later, and he was completely monochrome. Laughing Jack then intends to "play" with his old friend, performing the same torturous methods that Isaac had used on his victims. This includes blowing his intestines into balloon animals. Jack bids his now dying and shredded friend farewell, saying that he plans on going to find other children to play with in the same manner.
