I am sure that it has been mentioned several times, but Dory is NOT a secondary character. To say that Dory was a secondary character in FINDING NEMO would be the same as claiming Sgt Murtaugh was a secondary character in LETHAL WEAPON. Most of the early Pixar movies were "buddy films." Yes there were numerous interesting characters along the way, but the bulk of the saga focused on the development of two protagonists. Buzz and Woody. Lightning and Mater. Sully and Wazowski. Remy and Alfredo. FINDING NEMO is apart of that legacy. Marlin and Dory are like Abbot and Costello or Laurel and Hardy. You need both the straight man and the comedy relief in order for the project to work.

I'd argue that Dory is a primary character along with Nemo and Marlin. She doesn't belong here.

I would argue that Nemo is a secondary character. I know the film is based on Nemo but, he isn't really in the film that much and it is a lot more centered on his Dad and Dory's journey to find him.

linkno1 More of the film is certainly centred around Dory and Marlin, but Nemo is at the center of the other storyline and, as you pointed out, is the basis of the whole film. I think that qualifies him as a primary character.

dude yes she is because the movie is about a dad finding his son she is just helping out!!!she has to be the protagonist in order to be one of the main characters

I really wouldn't consider Dory a secondary character. She's in most of the movie and pushes the plot forward a few times. I wouldn't be surprised if she had as much screentime as Nemo.
