Excellent choice. Koga must be the first. I was in the audience that day in Belgrade 1989 when he did that one-handed ippon seoi. I still remember the sound of the breath of astonished crowd. Ebinouma is must also be ranked top. He is possibly the best technician ever. His seoi-nage is flawless.

Watching Koga: A New Wind was a formative moment in my Judo. I'd been training 2 and a half years at that stage, and from that day forward, I was determined to always strive for Standing Ippon Seoi Nage over the drop variation.

Very good list. I would put Abe at number 3 ahead of An. Abe is becoming one of the all time greats and he could have also many years left. Koga was a beast. He had everything in his seoi nage and he was way ahead of his time. i would say he revolutioned the technique with the split hip variation.

That is Ippon Seoinage and morote soinage those are two main ones but morote is really two handed and not kneeling. I would call kneeling one Hantachi seoinage but that terms comes form Koryu jujutsu Seou means to carry on one's back when it is combined with nage ( throw) the last "u' changes to " i " and becomes seoinage... Like Origami which combination of kami and oru to form origami. Oru means to fold or brake. and kami is paper but the k changes to g when combined like keri by itselelf and maegeri when it is combined. Combine morote with and otoshi from taiotoshi and you get seoiotoshi. they are almost identical. and all are hand techniques.if you use either taiotoshi or seoiotshi and lift the extended leg and you get ashiguruma my favoriite. Just throw over the extended leg. The thing all these competitors lack is kuzushi. They are very strong and ironically Juu means soft but it hardly is... if you ever throw anyone with speed and timing the effort is slight and the feeling is amazing. I once and only once threw someone like that and it was so amazing that the opponent yell out " how did you do that" ! I did not know how to respond. very hard to do... but it is the point, although you would not know by how much strength is used by these competitors. I stopped practice after 2 nd degree and moves on to koryu's which incorporates strikes. The dynamics of judo are indispensable. It is more clean to avoid injury but you gain the dinamics then just add what was taken away by Kano Jigoro in the early 1920s/. There should be Judo clubs in middle schools thru high school in all of America. Judo should be the first martial art one learns then continue with a striking style, Judo competition has changed a lot since the 70s and not all good.
