She was very pretty BEFORE I love Lucy. I didn't like her hairstyles on the show. Before she wore it out and loose.

I agree - I too felt she was beautiful. A good actress, both in Musical numbers (Dance Girl Dance) and in Comedic roles like Du Barry was a Lady and Easy to Wed. Also she was in film noir: Lured and The Dark Corner A++ and the Big Street with Henry Fonda - beautifully acted. I am glad that RKO cancelled her contract - because she would not have looked for radio work and the "My Favorite Husband" , which led to Ï Love Lucy."

The end always makes me cry 😢❤️ Aside from making a wonderful comedy series that people still treasure it is amazing to see all they were able to accomplish in their lifetimes.

To begin, I’m a massive “I Love Lucy” fan girl. Honestly, I didn’t learn that much more from this documentary than I had from reading Ms. Ball’s book, “Love Lucy”. I will say that Ms. Poehler (?) and her staff did an excellent job. What I did learn was more about Mr. Arnaz and his revolutionizing television as we know it. Brilliant! I cried so hard when they played the last time Ms. Ball spoke to Mr. Arnaz right before his death. Even my husband broke down in tears. Beautiful documentary. Definitely EMMY worthy. Thank you.

I bought two audiobooks: Love, Lucy and A Book (Desi Arnaz' book) Enjoyed both of them. Lucie Arnaz was the reader for her mother's book and a man who sounded just like Desi read his book. Plan to listen to both again. Always thought that Lucille Ball should have published her book during her lifetime (she had already written it many years before she died.) and toured around promoting the book - like Desi did with his. She would not have needed to be in tv, (The Lucy Show) or movies (Mame) touring and interacting would have been so fruitful for her. Not for financial reasons (but it would have been a best seller) but in order for her to be interactive and connected to people, whether in the USA or abroad. "I Love Lucy"was known the world over.

The documentary obviously serves as a sort of irresistible and logical companion to writer-director Aaron Sorkin's recent Amazon movie "Being the Ricardos," although in ways it's even more nostalgic and sentimental. In terms of Arnaz's serial infidelity, for example, it's basically left to their daughter, Lucie Arnaz Luckinbill, to note that her parents hurt each other him with his actions, and her with words.
@HenPapirman
@HenPapirman 2 жыл бұрын
Lucie also says her parents' reason for doing the show was for them to be together but she keeps forgetting that the reason is that her mom wanted her dad to be near her, that way he wouldn't cat around, cheat, etc... in guessing, because she's their daughter it's hard for her to accept these things. But people who actually knew them, who were older than her, tell the real hard facts.

The older movie, lucy and desi home movies? Other ppl tell Her, Lucie, how it was, the hard truths. But she does seem to accept these facts now. I really liked her(May Poehler's) movie/documentary so much.

@@XximwishinxX I really liked the Amy Poehler documentary - really did not like (at all) Being the Ricardos. Both main stars Kidman and the Javier were not at all like Lucy and Desi. Kidman seemed plastic and Javier - not at all appealing like Desi Arnaz who was physically attractive, sensual, intelligent and warm. I was so shocked when Is saw that movie - how awful it was. Wondered how Lucie Arnaz totally approved the people playing her parents.
@LJ-ht4zs

Time passed and I saw Being the Ricardos again. Funny enough I liked it a lot better and realized that while neither star really looked like Lucy and Desi, but they did capture an essence of who they were. Also, Nicole Kidman had to play two Lucys: the tv Lucy and the real life Lucy, which became clearer on second viewing. Desi was more like Ricky Arnaz, so Javier's part was easier.

I waited for this film, I liked it. However I study much more from reading Lucy's book - Love, Lucy and from reading close friends to the couple's quotes. Most of Desi's "recordings" aren't even the recordings I thought would be, they were taken from interviews from Carson and Letterman. On that last "try out to repair their marriage trip" to Europe, what had actually happened is that Desi had forgotten his coat in Paris where no one really knew him (or were familiar with the show, as they were in London) and they had already flew to to Rome so they coat was sent to Rome and it was addressed to Mr. Ball. That's when Desi lost it and started drinking and wasn't sober since then. For me, reading and watching everything, it breaks my heart every time. They were so in love with one another up to a point where they hurt each other so badly. I have so much to say about it that I'm going to post a long post about it someday... It just a tragedy.

I thought it was strange they never mentioned infidelity. Perhaps it was a condition of Lucie Arnaz or Amy Poehler was being sensitive, whatever the reason... It was strange because it contributed greatly to the demise of their marriage.

Lucy first visited both Bette Midler and Carol Burnett when they were doing shows in NYC and was supportive of both of them. They were just breaking into the business and Lucille Ball was older and many years a veteran.

During Wildcat, for instance, fans said she waited and signed autographs for all. Kind considerate, very pleasant. this was after her divorce and after an exhausting show. Heard that she did not like to fly and did not want to engage with anyone on the flight. (it was rumored she said, she did not talk to the help). BS she had help for many many years - always the same folks, also same writers and co-stars from her radio days. However, she was somewhat agoraphobic did not like to fly, maybe she just wanted to curl up and be by herself or only talk with person she was flying with. (my sister is the same, agoraphobic only got her to fly with me one time - quite a task at that) Lucy became more so - agoraphobic the last years of her life. (Same with my sister - she doesn't drive, email, and hates talking on the phone. stays at home.) Her children and grandchildren have to come and she her, not the reverse.)

Oua I am chock. A children is paralyzed by an other children but it’s no one faults ? I will disagree on this one, only in America you believe it’s just an « accident ». Maybe do NOT allow children to use a gun or any weapon, or better do NOT own a gun. Gun doesn’t do damage, human do. The grandpa did the right things to pay for everything, he took responsibilities and it is sad that they loose a lot of materials stuffs, but is it more awful then becoming paralyzed has a children ? I do not think so. Sometimes people lake perspective on things, you can empathize with both sides but at the end of the day if I have to pick a side, it will always go for the person who lost the most valuable element. Falling and braking your spine is an accident, receiving a bullet is NOT. Faults and responsibilities are not the same and we shouldn’t erase any of them to feel better. We all have opportunities to make mistakes but we shouldn’t forget that with mistakes come responsibility, especially when your mistakes have terrible impact on an other persons life.
