A great list! I live in zone 9 Louisiana, and unfortunately hydrangeas are so finicky here it’s not worth it. I had the limelights in part sun and still had to water daily; still only got sad little flowers before they shriveled and died. Azaleas, viburnums, and gardenias are all very very popular here. I would like to add to this list (for us in zones 8b+), oleanders, callistemon, brunfelsia, and cape plumbago all thrive and are perfect for our climate.

I'm in the same 7b zone (pnw) as you and love the in-depth details of PW newest arrivals. I installed a water feature in 2021 and have to finish landscaping around it. It's a tiered, hilly 90' x 15' space. 1/2 is in full sun all day and the other side has am sun and shade. This video is a huge help in getting my project finished up this year.

Ginny, so very timely. After last year, here in Virginia, I am looking for drought resistant, low growing, good in clay soil plants. You mentioned two, the Pugster Blue and the Beyond Pink caryopteris (sp?) that will be perfect. I am going to visit my local nursery this week to ask. Otherwise it’s a trip to a bigger nursery but definitely worth it. This is very valuable information and a great beginning for the spring. Thanks so much. Again, wish we were nearer to Creekside. Let us know when you are ready to start shipping. Such a great extension for your business.

Hi Jenny, I have a question about cutting hydrangeas for arrangements during blooming season. Should I cut the flowers shorter so the stems can grow new blooms or it doesn’t work like that? I always feel weird cutting the stems longer like I’m taking away blooms. Thank you so much for this great video! I struggle with clay in Texas and keeping things alive between the droughts and water restrictions and the occasional prolonged ice.

I have a love hate relationship with azaleas. I don’t like them after they bloom. I have decided to rip mine out this spring. I’ve just had it with them. They are so spindly looking after blooming. They are too fussy about pruning. I only like them when they bloom. So I am getting rid of them. I’m really struggling with what to replace them with. I live in zone 6 and the bed faces east. I want color…not just a spring bloomer. So I am struggling for sure!

It would be really helpful if you left the product tag up longer or even typed out the plant species in bigger letters. This was to fast I only wrote down 8 plants and even on a 75 inch tv I couldn’t read the tiny print on the label of the species.
