Another great video! I agree that JIM #83 and TOS #39 are great books to pick up if you have the cash; however, I don’t think the market will really move up again until the economy gets better and collectors have more money to aggressively bid on comics. I’ve been looking at keys that have returned to their trend lines sans the comic boom. Any Marvel key you pick up now you need to plan to keep for several years to get a good return.

I have these on my radar but will just wait it out for 12-36 months for the market to really soften. If a recession really hits and people lose jobs they’ll sell comics before not paying mortgage rents etc.

I have all of these books and fortunately bought them before the boom. It was cool when they were worth big amounts. I probably should have sold them during the boom.

My local LCS has a 1.0 journey into mystery 83 Purple Label restored no tears no rips on the cover some moderate touch-up on cover he was asking 4550 I can get it for 3,000 what do you think should I pull the trigger stay away from Purple Label books Purple Label books

Excellent, helpful pair of videos, Ryan. However, I wonder how different the pre-boom ROI figures you cite might look if you shifted your time frame to the pre-MCU era. The books with the highest stats have all been heavily buoyed by films and film speculation. While this is an effect we're all very accustomed to by now, I think it's a mistake to assume that it truly represents "the new normal", and that this trend will continue indefinitely. For blue chip investment books like these, I'd prefer to gauge yearly ROI from the full available GPA data set, because the averages will definitely look different. While AF15 has always shown strong year over year growth, I'm pretty sure ToS39 didn't begin doing so to its current degree until the MCU era. Similarly, I think Hulk 1 prices used to grow at a rate more similar to its peer books before it became clear that rights issues were going to prevent the character from receiving further solo films for the foreseeable future. That said, I've done this type of comparison across the entire Overstreet top SA list across multiple decades, and that kind of long view does show shifts in the level of interest in certain characters and genres: Not so long ago, Overstreet's top SA books included Our Army at War #83 and Richie Rich #1. Anyway, I'd love to see a follow up the explores the longer-term trends for this list of books since the first sales logged in GPA. Thanks again, and good luck with the new project at Fanalytics!

I'll have no problem avoiding these since I can't afford them. :) FF 5 is an interesting case. I'll be curious to see what happens with that book and other major Doom keys when his appearance in the MCU is confirmed. Will the blah that the MCU has been experiencing affect whatever bump will likely occur, or will the millions of Doombots cause a substantial and sustained increase in those keys? I'm in the early phases of trying to acquire as many of the major Doom keys in high enough grades while the prices have been dropping in anticipation of a possible Doom-buying frenzy in the near future.
