Suggestion for folks who have high value books such as me. I actually opened a bank lockbox to store my big keys like AF15, ASM1, FF1, XMEN 1 etc. This along with very detailed video of the slabs, including the number on it and have it insured. Just protect yourself.

I stopped reading a collecting comics for years, then go back into it 4 years ago after re-bagging my old collection. Grading with actual numbers was a completely new thing to me. I've only got 3 graded books, brought as 9.8s. I doubt I'll ever slab any of my original collection. But I'm enjoying watching all this 9.9 stuff from the sidelines. It all seems so "Emperor's new clothes" to me. People paying so much money for something which is, lets be honest, exactly the same as the far cheaper option. 🤔 😂
@davidkennedy6612Күн бұрын
I wouldnt be buying any key copper or modern 9.8s at the moment. Might be a god idea to sell them now, cenus will be quite different in a year i think
@leemires5315Күн бұрын
Maybe im weird, but the difference in a 9.0 condition and a 9.8 isn't big enough to want to pay 5x-10x more. People aren't buying books. They are buying grades.
@WadeNsladeКүн бұрын
100% I don’t even buy 9.8s
@Brockness_Monster84Күн бұрын
I noticed a 9.9 as well as 39 new 9.8s have been added since the end of April for Uncanny X-Men 221. Thats the first 9.9 of that book.(currently)🤔
@AutomaticComicsКүн бұрын
There are 3x9.9s for X-men 221. Technically 4 (there’s one sig series). But yeah, that one I expect would be a big target too.
@ComicCollectorGeekКүн бұрын
Great analysis. I think the numbers will slow down enough so we won't see a doubling of the census. Some of the EC books have really high census counts.
@thomaspalmer6453Күн бұрын
This is so ridiculous! Who can even tell the difference between a 9.9 and 9.9 without a microscope?
@tikertiker2Күн бұрын
You can tell what’s going on, instead of just submitting 25 9.8s that were purchased, this second time around this particular person is trying to mitigate his risk/cost, by submitting 25 9.8s and 25 9.6s. That way if any of the 9.6s move up to 9.8, or potentially even go all the way to 9.9, it’s making up for the loss of grade of an all 9.8 submission and also the grading costs, as well as some of the buying costs.

@300baudКүн бұрын
If you took the vast majority of 9.9 books and laid them next to a 9.8 you are not going to be able to tell the difference even with a close inspection. For that reason alone, I would never pay the ridiculous multiplier some of these books are receiving. Some might say "well, the 9.9 is rarer". Is it though? How many of those 9.9s, if cracked and resubbed, and not sent in a large lot, and not sent in by a major auction house, would come back as a 9.9 again? I'm taking a wild guess and say less than 1% of them. Probably less than 0.5% of them.
@thecomickeeper5127Күн бұрын
Exactly . The difference is so miniscule and ridiculous . Crack 50 9.8s and 3 9.9s of a certain book and guaranteed none of the ones that were 9.9s would come back a 9.9 again .

But there are rare high grade copper age books. Clearly not ones printed in the tens of thousands tho, that’s just naive to think that

Although rarity doesn't imply high value considering the high value and high print of some bronze and copper as well as some golden rare golden age books that are in dollar bins.

So if we're getting a dealer who is doing a mass CPR submission, and not turning in the old labels, are we going to see an decline in 9.8 prices due to an artificial increase in supply?
@AutomaticComics2 күн бұрын
Probably not since the census itself doesn’t really impact prices directly. It’s more about if they come up for sale. If 27x9.8s of Star Wars 1 hit the block back to back in the next week, it would definitely impact prices. But just being on the census, probably not so much.
@joshuaalveyКүн бұрын
I can understand not sending in the old label if you are going for a grade bump. I think in the long haul the inflated census #s might make an impression imo. I hope not! Thanks
@bradcsuka5054Күн бұрын
It may not necessarily by CPR submissions (although it seems likely). It's also possible that there are dealers out there sitting on dozens (hundreds?) of raw copies of key books that they simply haven't gotten around to submitting for grading (for whatever reason). I share the concern, however, with the census numbers becoming completely unreliable over time.

This sucks! I hope the perpetrator is apprehended! I have about 80 graded comics in my collection of just under 5000. One thing that I Since I use CovrPrice, I will add the certificate numbers to all of them. For those that don’t use CovrPrice, you can track them on a spreadsheet. That way, you can have that information handy should you need it.
