@@Mr.Bassman I’m really glad you enjoy these videos! It makes the hard work worth it! Heat is so well made and fun to play! I got my wife to play it and she loved it. I’ve played it with 4 people but I enjoyed it more solo because I was able to add the advanced rules with the weather and the more complicated upgrade cards. It’s such a satisfying game to play and it does a great job of mimicking a car considering it’s just a board game. The board game version of Slay the Spire is actually very good. Although I enjoy playing video games, I’m not a fan of video games with board game mechanics. In that way, you and I think slightly different. There’s something about physically dealing with your deck of cards that makes it feel so satisfying. Although, I definitely understand why many would prefer to play the video game instead. The good thing is that this is a “The Best of Both Worlds” situation. Either way it’s played, Slay the Spire delivers.

Also curious about Dead Cells. Thanks for another great list! I hope 2025 brings you lots of gaming goodness!
@SoloBoardGamingKnight29 күн бұрын
@@joxer96 Funny that you mentioned that! While making the video, I said the same thing to myself, “There’s four board games based on video games.” It just happened naturally. I can’t think of another end-of-year top 10 that even had a video game based board game in it, let alone four. I felt the same as you with both Slay the Spire and Dead Cells. I figured there was no reason to play either. I thought Dead Cells just wouldn’t work well in board game form and Slay the Spire was too close to the video game (although while playing the video game, I felt it would work well in physical form). Then I played them and fell in love with both. As a matter of fact, I’m currently playing Slay the Spire which is set on my table. The unlocking system is addicting with both of those games and they both play great on the table. I can’t explain it but it just feels right. They both have a great sense of “just one more game” which leads to countless runs/hours played instead of doing something else like sleeping. I’m currently trying not to back anything else because there’s a bunch of KS and GF games due to ship this year. Dragon Eclipse is on its way as well as Final Girl Series 3 and X-Men Dice Throne Adventures. That’s just the first couple of months into 2025. Although I create videos, I also like to just play what I have. I don’t want to get into that flow of review a game and move to the next one. I actually want to enjoy my collection. With that written, I will inevitably back a game or two and buy a game or two on the side. I need to work on my willpower. I will keep Last Spell in mind and I appreciate your comment. I truly do enjoy both those games and I’m not even sponsored neither do I get paid to say or write that. I’m just like you, someone looking for some fun board games to play. I also just got the new Elder Scrolls by Chip Theory - arrgggh - I'm drowning in solo games!
@aliasalias7546Ай бұрын
I would advise against Vagrantsong. It's not that good. The rules are not always clear and the basic gameplay is not really that exciting. Characterprogression is also very boring, since most characters can only hold one item(called junk) and a lot of the skills you get are way too specific on the conditions.
@SoloBoardGamingKnightАй бұрын
@@benja6902 I’m a fan of Vagrantsong and I think it’s great. If you’ve never played a Chip Theory Game yet, I’d recommend Too Many Bones over Burncycle. Both are great but Too Many Bones is my favorite. As far as Burncycle goes, I love it but let me tell you a few things about it. Burncycle is more of a stealth game than a combat-focused game. I believe your enjoyment would come from whether or not you enjoy stealth games. Also, this is a long game. I am able to leave a game out on the table (it takes up a lot of table space, too) so I can leave and come back to it if life comes calling. A game can take 2-3 or more hours depending on how many floors your mission has. Just like other Chip Theory Games, it’s pretty complex. I would say it’s their easiest game to play but still complex with a lot of rules both big and small. There’s a lot of moving pieces gameplay-wise. If everything I wrote above sounds interesting to you, I’d say go for it! I love it but I’m a fan of Chip Theory Games. With that written, there are people that don’t enjoy their games. It’s even more risky due to the price of their games. I’m trying to give you as much of an unbiased take on Burncycle to help you make well informed decision. Hopefully this helped! Now, with Invincible, since it’s much cheaper to buy, I can recommend that one without as much caution. I’m not the biggest fan of the show (although I’ve watched it and there are some great moments in it) and I haven’t read the comic books but this game is just plain good! I played it a bunch with my 17 year old son which isn’t even much into board games but found it interesting and he loved it! It even got him to want to play other games like Comic Hunters, Marvel Zombies, Marvel United and Rebellion. Invincible was good enough to get him to play board games the entire summer last year. I played it solo two-handed and it played just as well and I got to see how several characters play and their synergies with one another. Both games are great but one game costs a lot more than the other and that’s a fair warning I want to give you. If either of these games interest you, I think you’d enjoy both. Which ever way you go, you win! I know this was a long reply but I really wanted to answer your question and one sentence or two wouldn’t have been enough to answer it. Hope this helped, Benja!
@SoloBoardGamingKnightАй бұрын
@@aliasalias7546 I enjoyed it but I also understand we all have different likes. Personally, I prefer more complex board games like Oathsworn when it comes to combat focused games like Vagrantsong but for me , Vagrantsong is a fun adventure and I like the backdrop, story and gameplay. The characters have good synergy, as well. Also, the new expansion changes the battles to make them replayable and also allows you to play any scenario as a one-off. This is the case where an expansion really elevates a game. Either way, it’s good that you gave Benja a heads-up with your experience of Vagrantsong. Hope to see you both around in the upcoming “Solo Knights Respond” video!

@@HistoryCivGamer First of all, welcome to the board gaming hobby! Take your time, research and look for the things you’re interested in. There’s a bunch of genres out there to find and okay. Warp’s Edge is a fun solo-only game that I really loved when I first came into this hobby. I still play it consistently. It’s a great board game. If you’ve ever watched Groundhogs Day or Edge of Tomorrow (Live. Die. Repeat), you get a good idea of what this game is like. You keep repeating the same battle only you’re stronger stronger every time you come back. That’s my recommendation but I always say to look into every game before you buy to make sure it calls your attention. Hope this helps and take care!
@HistoryCivGamerАй бұрын
@ thank you for the warm welcome. For my start im going to go with Marvel Champions as that was the first thing that got me interested because i like superheroes and card games. Not sure if it’s a board game but it’s on the boardgamegeek website so i guess it is. And I’m also going to try a second game called Final Girl because i like the theme and it seems relatively easy to start out with. If i enjoy either I’ll collect for them more and get the expansions etc. Other then that I have been researching for games I’d maybe want down the line or to get a grasp of the whole concept of solo board games and what kinds there are. Before that i had only known of the obvious childhood/family board games of monopoly, battleship and yahtzee etc. the classics but those are all multiplayer. Wasn’t aware board games could even be played solo so It’s something I’m definitely eager to jump into and see what its all about.

I am very curious with your remarks on heat! Well I have the physical game and for the times I managed to play it - solo and multiplayer, they all felt fairly flat (I only played the base game not much of the extra stuff though). And on bga I played a few 6/7 players game which I felt more fun with that dynamics people pressing their luck. Now the question I have is. If heat base game is just a 6.5/7 for me…will the extra components or the expansion really change things for me? I so want to find a racing game I like. But honestly it is getting close to my cull list per things stand now
@SoloBoardGamingKnightАй бұрын
@@kennychan6645 Since you already own it, I’d recommend giving the advanced rules a shot. Add the weather modifier and the corner modifiers. Also, include the advanced upgrade cards. The best part of it all is that it’s part of the base game so you don’t even have to buy an expansion. While playing just the core without the advanced rules, it just felt like I was casually going through the motions. Adding the advanced rules changed the way I handled straightaways, corners and which cards I played. The advanced upgrade cards are a MUST! They give you several more options during the race and really changes the way you play compared to the basic rules. Heavy Rain isn’t really needed to enjoy base Heat with the advanced rules but it changes the way you shift gears during a race. You’ll be constantly thinking about that whenever you see a puddle. Add that to the advanced rules and things change even more. The solo mode is great but nothing will beat playing a game like this with others. The downside is that the people that I play with can’t handle the advanced rules which makes solo my preferred way of playing. I even create my own tournaments and have fun with it. As for you, I’m not sure if it will change your mind but it did change mine. There are several games that receive a lot of praise and I don’t enjoy and vice versa. Give it a try before you cull. The worst that can happen is that you sell it and make some money out of it. The best thing that can happen is that you actually start enjoying the game more. Hope this helped!
@kennychan6645Ай бұрын
I really thank you for taking your time on a detailed answer. I will give it more go adding the additional stuff. To be fair I should try everything before I cull it (if eventually I will I thoroughly enjoyed your top 10 video! Good recommendations as always

Slay the spire would have been an Insta buy if it only had better artwork. Be careful: a solo board game is a game specifically conceived for one player like Falling skies or Final girl. @@goodsound4756 The solo community knows that any game that can be played solo is considered solo even if it is a multiplayer board game.
