I believe what made Budgie so great was that they didn't make it big, and remained a little secret to their real fans. I saw them live a couple of times in the early 80s and never at a sell out stadium, but in pubs. That is how every great band becomes great, up close and personal, but once big and famous, then goes the heart and soul of any band. Budgie kept it real until the end. Good track list by the way, but number one for me was always Napoleon 1&2. R.I.P Burke ❤️

My Budgie vinyl collection of all their first issue albums (MCA etc) are my prized possessions of my entire record collection. There is no way I could pick a top 10...period. For anyone out there that likes reading there are two excellent books by a writer from NewZealand called Chris Pike called "Budgie's First Three Albums" and "In Pecking Order: Budgie 1974-79." Napoleon Bona Part 1 & 2 8. In the Grip of the Tyrefitter's Hand 9. Nude Disintegrating Parachute Woman 10. A Crash Course in Brain Surgery That's just skimming the surface really, there's dozens of other nuggets. Two things Pete - have you ever been to their homeland of Wales? It's a magical, mountainous country, beloved by Page and Plant. Also, any chance of a Little Feat top ten? I'm not sure how much you rate them but I know Burke Shelley is a big fan. Keep up the excellent work.

How they didn't become massive is a mystery. Great band who I always advise people to look into.

Back in 1980 or thereabouts Budgie issued an EP ( there was a revival around that time) If Swallowed Do Not Induce Vomiting was the EP's title and it includes a favourite of mine 'Panzer Division Destroyed' , belting track and looks as though it was included in reissues of the next album. Caught them on your that year in Manchester at a rock club named Jilly's. Not the original guitarist though ( think they had three throughout their career). There's a tribute band here in the northwest of England called Bandoliers who play tremendous renditions of all the great Budgie tunes and also go out as Black Zeppelin ( set of Zep classics followed by ...you guessed it!) Amazing musicians!

Good to see see this band get some more recognition! Found Squawk on Kapp records in a 25 cent bin, in 1973 when 3 finger lids cost $10... (the Roger Dean SR-71 w/ the bird skull fuselage is still my favorite Budgie album cover). Got a lot of mileage off of that sucker and maybe can't view their catalog w/ much objectivity as a result. Haven't heard much after Bandolier, but here goes anyway in no particular order: -Guts -Stranded -Hot As A Docker's Armpit -Nude Disintegrating Parachutist Woman -Parents -Napoleon Bona (Parts 1 & 2) -In The Grip of a Tyrefitter's Hand -In For The Kill -Rape of The Locks -Breadfan I know this is broken record territory, but i'm hoping you'll throw some light on Patto and or Sir Lord Baltimore! (that 1st SLB has to be one of the most ferociously unhinged rock albums ever made).
