I'm a huge fan of the band, I really enjoy all the songs in your TOP 10, here's mine. 1) "Napoleon Bona-Part One & Two" 2) "I Turned to Stone" 3) "Nude Disintegrating Parachutist Woman" 4) "Breadfan" 5) "Hot as a Docker's Armpit" 6) "If I Were Brittania I'd Waive the Rules" 7) "Melt the Ice Away" 8) "Breaking All the House Rules" 9) "Crash Course in Brain Surgery" 10) "In the Grip of a Tyrefitter's Hand" Honorable mentioned which any rock/metal fan should listen: "Keeping a Rendezvous" "Justice" "Homicidal Suicidal" They have so many amazing songs but their management has kinda failed because it is hard to find their albums. Budgie is easily one of the most influential metal bands of all-time.

Had to revisit this one. I foolishly never listened to parents all the way through, what a great emotive song. Tonys haunting guitar refrain is so powerful. 1. Breaking all the house rules 2. Parents 3 .Black velvet stallion 4. I turned to stone 5 .Young is the world 6. Forearm smash 7 .Baby please dont go 8. Crime against the world 9. Wondering what everyone knows. 10. I cant see my feelings.

I believe what made Budgie so great was that they didn't make it big, and remained a little secret to their real fans. I saw them live a couple of times in the early 80s and never at a sell out stadium, but in pubs. That is how every great band becomes great, up close and personal, but once big and famous, then goes the heart and soul of any band. Budgie kept it real until the end. Good track list by the way, but number one for me was always Napoleon 1&2. R.I.P Burke ❤️

My Budgie vinyl collection of all their first issue albums (MCA etc) are my prized possessions of my entire record collection. There is no way I could pick a top 10...period. I have had them since 1970 and plan to leave them to my kids who grew up listening to their dads very loud hifi. Let those if us who have heard this band be thankful we did as they were UNIQUE and ahead of their time on so many levels.

For anyone out there that likes reading there are two excellent books by a writer from NewZealand called Chris Pike called "Budgie's First Three Albums" and "In Pecking Order: Budgie 1974-79." They go into incredible detail and he speaks at crazy length with Ray Phillps, Pete Boot and Steve Williams, as well as Tony, Burke, Myf Isaacs and a few others that were part of their story.

Like a lot of folks in my Gen X age group, I discovered Budgie through Metallica. Burke Shelley is a seriously underrated bassist. Just so many amazing tracks, a few on your list i need to give a listen. Great content from someone who listen to them. I grew up with rock, thought i new a lot of the hidden gems,🤣. Napoleon Bona Part 1 & 2 8. In the Grip of the Tyrefitter's Hand 9. Nude Disintegrating Parachute Woman 10. A Crash Course in Brain Surgery That's just skimming the surface really, there's dozens of other nuggets. Two things Pete - have you ever been to their homeland of Wales? It's a magical, mountainous country, beloved by Page and Plant. Also, any chance of a Little Feat top ten? I'm not sure how much you rate them but I know Burke Shelley is a big fan. Keep up the excellent work.

My introduction to Budgie was seeing them open for Gillan in 1981 when I was 12. They were supporting their Nightlife album which I purchased first chance I had. Still love it to this day...was disappointed you don't care for it as much-no mention of Turn To Stone? But yeah, I eventually got around to buying their earlier offerings as well. How they didn't become massive is a mystery. Great band who I always advise people to look into.

Back in 1980 or thereabouts Budgie issued an EP ( there was a revival around that time) If Swallowed Do Not Induce Vomiting was the EP's title and it includes a favourite of mine 'Panzer Division Destroyed' , belting track and looks as though it was included in reissues of the next album. Caught them on your that year in Manchester at a rock club named Jilly's. Not the original guitarist though ( think they had three throughout their career). There's a tribute band here in the northwest of England called Bandoliers who play tremendous renditions of all the great Budgie tunes and also go out as Black Zeppelin ( set of Zep classics followed by ...you guessed it!) Amazing musicians!

Good to see see this band get some more recognition! Found Squawk on Kapp records in a 25 cent bin, in 1973 when 3 finger lids cost $10... (the Roger Dean SR-71 w/ the bird skull fuselage is still my favorite Budgie album cover). Got a lot of mileage off of that sucker and maybe can't view their catalog w/ much objectivity as a result. Haven't heard much after Bandolier, but here goes anyway in no particular order: -Guts -Stranded -Hot As A Docker's Armpit -Nude Disintegrating Parachutist Woman -Parents -Napoleon Bona (Parts 1 & 2) -In The Grip of a Tyrefitter's Hand -In For The Kill -Rape of The Locks -Breadfan I know this is broken record territory, but i'm hoping you'll throw some light on Patto and or Sir Lord Baltimore! (that 1st SLB has to be one of the most ferociously unhinged rock albums ever made).

Once again a hard rockin' band that got lost to the power groups of the time. I only had Never Turn Your Back on Your Friend and Bandolier. But I can listen to some of their earlier material on KZbin! #1 Napolean Bona Part 1&2! Burke's bass line and vocals are great on this and Tony does have some sizzling riffs. Thanks for posting.

An underrated, hidden gem of a band. Exasperating that only their first 2 albums are available on iTunes ☹️

I decided to download the entire Budgie catalog just today. All I knew for ages was the excellent 'Nightflight' album, which is a great album. I'm definitely going to get 'Nightflight' on vinyl soon. Did you know that the 'Nightflight' cover was done by the great Derek Riggs? If I really love any of these albums I will buy the remastered CDs.

Far out thanks, so glad to have found this, was actually looking for a sort of best of,something I would never do for any band btw ,but wanting to turn yet another person onto them and was looking for heavier stuff from them:) grew up with them also , probably liked the covers before the music :) thanks again Keep Rockin. Bought their debut early this year and yes.. The Black Sabbath/Rush thoughts was there! Definitely a underrated band just like Blue Öyster Cult or UFO (which might be a bit more famous since they have been more active!).

Pete, you are the man! I like Budgies first 4 / 5 LPs very, very much. Really greatest tunes are all tracks of the first two Lps and napoleon Bonaparte, hammer and tongs, bredfan, breaking all the houses rule and in my opinion their greatest track Zoom Club! But there much more, sadly I forgot their names..

...and what about "In The Grip Of A Tire Fitter's Hand"?!!! My suggestion...take a good audio equipment and a 2x100 W amplifier. Goose bumps + vibration of all internal organs will lead to absolute nirvana !!! Just do it !

Please tell me I'm not the only one who loses an hour or three after watching one of Petes' vids checking out bands I've not listened to before.
