I find it funny how Stackpole manages to be one of the best writers in two of my favorite SF settings, since he wrote some very good stories for both Star Wars and Battletech (he actually had an even bigger influence in Battletech, having written some very foundational novels, plus he's the reason why a mech exploding when its fusion reactor is breached is called "stackpoling" by the fanbase to this very day).
