Migrant Mysteries:10 States That Attracted Movers Last Year
Every year, United and Atlas Van Lines come out with their survey of which states are gaining and losing population. This is a survey where they look at all the state-to-state moves made and gauge how many are coming and going to and from each state and real estate prices.
The country is changing. 10 or 20 years ago, if you got out of school with a degree, most people had to move to a big city to find a job in your field. That isn't as much of a thing anymore. Not as many people need to live in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, Chicago, and New York City. Those people have now started looking for more affordable places to live. This list convinced me of this shifting American migration pattern.

Same here, and not regretting it. I was looking at a combination of affordability and weather. Coming from the West Coast, it is such a relief to have NO disasters in Metro Atlanta. Having lived in truly hot places before, I laugh in my AC'd house when people start complaining. No quakes, no fires, no slides, no volcanoes, no killer hail or wind. If I want to chase severe weather, I can drive a couple of hours. Win/win!

@soundreflections9126 May I ask... isn't the crime in Atlanta sky high? I'm Aussie and don't have a way to know your local info so I hope my question is okay? I thought Atlanta has a lot of crime? Also, have you lived there long enough to KNOW about humidity there? We have warm summers here in Oz- 44°C is the hottest I've seen- but the humidity is what reks me 😒
@singingwindrider9881
@singingwindrider9881 4 ай бұрын
@@xxkissmeketutxx... hey, I can answer as I've been here in GA over 30yrs. Spots in Atlanta are bad but just don't go to those areas. However, it isn't "the wild west" thug scenario you see highlighted in newscasts either. That said, I hardly go to Atlanta because I've no reason to. But I don't care for being in any big city. Shoot, even my small town, now at 500, is getting too crowded for me. Which is why I'm here, perusing Briggs' helpful info vids. 👍😉 Now, humidity, it will kill you. But most people avoid outdoors during midday when it's at its worst. Unless they're at a "swimming hole". And with the explosion of gator numbers due to idiots that think they're necessary, that means pools that are securely enclosed (& I'm only an hour south of Atlanta). Just get a good ac man and you will be fine. That said, it's really only july/August that ruin midday activities. Hope this helps. 🙂🕊🕊

I'm really supervised that Idaho didn't make the list either. My daughter moved to Idaho from Washington state for health and other reasons. She and her family love it there. She moved to Caldwell, 30 miles west of Boise. She loves the sunshine but it does get a little cold in winter and a little warm in summer but it's a dry climate which she loves. She likes the feel of it, the safety, and it's a conservative state.

There was a time when the Tampa metro area was a state gem, that only Floridians only knew about. But it's safe to say that our secret is out, more and more people are moving to Tampa and the surrounding areas. Tampa, Clearwater, St Pete and the Sarasota areas have become very popular in the last 5 or 6yrs. Cities all around the bay area is seeing a population increase. I've been living in Florida for 32yrs, I moved from south Florida to the Tampa metro area 12yrs ago. It's just cheaper than south Florida, and it's got more to offer I think. A lot of new shops and businesses have opened, the whole metro area is becoming more diverse. Matter of fact the entire west coast of Florida is seeing a population boom lately. In the last few years a lot of tech companies have been moving in, great night life and craft brewery scene. It's a lot cheaper than Miami, Fort Lauderdale and the southeast coast where I used to live. Plus it's more laid back and relaxing too. To anyone thinking of or planning a move to the Tampa area I welcome you and I look forward to seeing you.

I've lived in the Tampa area all my life. From Sarasota, to Tampa, to St. Pete. I recently left St. Pete and moved to Seattle for a job about 2 years ago. I don't regret it at all but there are some places I will miss. I've had numberous job offers in other cities before that I've turned down because I knew they just weren't as good at Tampa\St. Pete no matter how much they offered me. I recommend St. Petersburg to anyone visiting the west coast of Florida.

Hello Mr. Briggs... Please add U-Haul to your list of resources. NO, I am not affiliated with U-Haul, but there is a bit different. Lots of people use them for their moves across the city, state or country. For instance, in U-Hauls latest list, Tennessee is number 5. and Texas is number 1 in their list. Might get a more realistic look at who's moving in. But Moving Van Lines are a very important "Identifier" of moves to another state.

I'm originally from Southern California, and I've been in Texas for 30 years. Many things I like, but I still don't like the humidity (most of Texas is in that humidity belt). That could be driving many Californians to look further west, like New Mexico. I'm looking at the Big Bend region of Texas for my next move.
