My experience is that when you stop eating sugars you start to taste the natural sweetness in all foods. Some berries in kefir or a bit of sweet potato with butter is my dessert when I want to indulge. And I mean a small serving . I use those tiny spoons for demi-tasse cups for that along with those little dishes they pile the creamers in at diners. Avocados are amazing because if you only eat whole unprocessed foods you will notice that they are creamy, salty, and sweet all in one... yum.

@@barneydenstad2148 Something to consider: maltodextrin spikes blood sugar and insulin. High insulin levels keep people from losing weight. So someone who is trying to lose weight would likely be stalled by using products containing maltodextrin whether or not they're doing keto. Also, it's very bad for diabetics but many products that are labeled "sugar free" and marketed to diabetics have maltodextrin in it.

This was an EXCELLENT presentation! You answered so many of my questions. Knowledge is power! One thing I would have added is a red X in the Toxic column for honey. Reason being, honey that is pasteurized, boiled, refined, cooked or BAKED is, essentially, toxic to the body (and not all honey is processed the same way... that golden stuff in the squeezable bear is almost not even honey anymore). I still use 100% raw, unfiltered, unpasteurized honey (1 tsp a day) in my tea. However, I always pour my milk/cream into the cup first to cool it down a few degrees, BEFORE adding my honey. This prevents it from being exposed to overheating. Having said that, I really do want to wean myself off of it, because that's how I start every morning off, and I really want to extend my fast for several more hours. I can skip the food, but I can't go without my morning tea! As I near the bottom of my current honey jar, I will stock up on some monk fruit and see how that goes. Whole Foods has a drink made from it, and I like the taste.

The longer I am off soda the less I want it. For me lemon water and naturally flavored 0 calorie sparkling (carbonated) water help. If I am craving sweet flavor I just add a couple of drops of monk fruit. This and plain ice water have become my favorite. Now the overly sweetness of a soda or the chemical after taste of diet sodas are repellant to me. If I am missing the caffeine I will add about 50 mg of powdered capsules I bought on Amazon. I am trying to not use it as much as I feel it slows down weight loss (adrenals/cortisol), but occasionally do.

@@Hiltie1 If you don't take Lugol's iodine, you may be low on it. Besides the problem with foods not having enough iodine because of soils being depleted of it, iodine also has three competitors: Bromine, Chlorine and Fluorine. Some soft drinks contain Brominated vegetable oil (Mountain Dew), and most baked goods use Brominated flours. Chlorine and Fluoride are in tap water for drinking, bathing, showering, and swimming. Iodine receptors in your body will accept those competitors if your iodine levels are low, meaning that the replacements can make you sick including hair loss, weight gains, tired and sluggish, enlarged goiter, loss of energy, and brain fog.. The RDA for iodine is 150 mcg, (micrograms) per day. I take 15 to 50 mg., (milligrams) per day. That is equivalent to 15,000 to 50,000 mcg's per day. Too much? I haven't seen any negatives in two years, and my hair is slowly coming back and getting thicker, and I feel much better. Keeping weight off is much easier as well. @@amoore-zd9zv you should check out the book "The Salt Fix." For decades the food industry ran very successful campaigns to demonize salt because they wanted to load everything with sugar. Some people legitimately need a low salt diet, but many people are actually salt deficient because doctors and the media have hammered us for 40+ years about the evils of salt. Fun fact: our bodies can easily process over 45 grams of salt each day; the government says we should keep our salt consumption below 2 grams. Our bodies actually have 5 separate systems to handle and process excess salt, and zero systems to handle inadequate salt intake on an extended basis.

I am currently consuming next to zero added sugars (natural or otherwise) and i feel great! I do miss the sugar highs, but dont miss the sugar crashes, bloating, anxiety, mood swings, bad skin, bad sleep, etc, etc. The strange thing is, the further away i am from it all, the less i miss even the taste. I occasionally “test” my pallet with a full on sweet treat. Most of the time, it gives no lasting satisfaction. I would much rather eat an avocado, or pile of nuts. I guess what i am trying to say, sugar, at least for me, is little more than a drug. Anyways, thanks for the great content!

@@paradevparadev5371 You can get it powdered granulated or in drops.It is my preferred in drops right now because the taste is a little less sharp than stevia to me.

Great information, but I feel less convinced by the "toxic" column: it deserves more explanations

Mom who was health nut and RN used to say, “They say Sweet ‘n Low gives you cancer but nothing’s happened to me yet.” I’m convinced it could have greatly contributed to the breast cancer that took her life at 59. And my sister was a Diet Coke addict who drank 4-6 diet Coke’s a day. Stomach cancer and passed at 42. I just don’t play with the stuff.

Very informative, I always wondered about sweeteners and their effect on our bodies. Thank you. What group is Maltose in?
@drekberg5 жыл бұрын
Thank you G Royce Myers. Maltose is sugar. A disaccharide. Starch is broken down into maltose

Thx man never having several of these again. Aspartan info was a wake up call for me. It could be regulated i have drank fun light/cola zero light way too much, thinking it was safer Than raw sugar based drinks. I recently stopped with it and I aint going back after this info.

Thank you so much Dr. Ekberg. You are my favorite KZbinr. I have not seen such a detailled review of all the types of sugars - even covering the topic of the micro biome.
