My kid loved playing Goof Troop / Secret of Mana / Kirby with me until the end. Bomberman is still one of her favorites. Maybe retro-gaming will stick with her as she grows up, who knows? In any case I think she'll keep good memories of this time spent together with her dad !

ZAMN is such a good game! Played it co-op with a friend when I was a kid and always had a blast even though I was not nearly as good as he was at it. Just beat it solo for the first time earlier this year. Definitely requires coordination in co-op. Preferably, at least one player has it down and can lead/pick up the slack. Even better with two knowledgeable veterans that can distribute the pickups, etc. in the best way for the team.

Another fun co-op game I don't hear discussed much is The Great Circus Mystery starring Mickey & Minnie. It isn't exclusive to the SNES, but it is a pretty fun platformer that anyone can enjoy.

Goof Troop seems to be a hidden gem that i only heard about a couple of years ago because of those online hidden gem lists. Solid list! I would have to say that Mario Kart was the one we played most for 2 player. Uniracers, Street Fighter 2 and the mortal kombat games were other popular ones at my house.

Goof Troop is so good. You can either work together, split tasks (like digging), or mess with each other (by throwing things or going to the next screen section repeatedly). It has really silly parts (music, movements, the premise), but also real game parts, like puzzles and bosses. Several years ago I felt nostalgic for it (and hadn't recovered the Nintendo systems that I currently have ) and watched some play-throughs. You can see in those how fun this game is.

Omg, just discovered Knights of the Round and it's really good, definitely an overlooked gem. I play it with my kids and they absolutely love it. If anything, they always fight over who gets to be Arthur 😂

My jaw literally dropped to the floor when you mentioned Biker Mice from Mars because F-Zero and Mario Kart have been my favorite racing games for the SNES since time immemorial. I might have to check Biker Mice out! I recently picked up Sunset Riders and Goof Troop so I'll definitely have to find a way to play those with a friend! Final Fight 3 AKA Final Fight Tough had regular co-op _and_ an AI partner the computer controlled. So I always had a "friend" to team up with whenever I played it on my SNES.

Very much agreed with your selection. May be I would replace Turtles in Time by the great Denjin Makai Densei, where you have to team up and synchronise to perform mind blowing attacks. And I’m totally agree with Biker Mice From Mars which blowed me away and richer than expected by its gameplay and this feeling consisting helping each others against CPU. I would recommand Smash TV and Super Swiv as very good co-op’s shooters even more than a Contra III. Oh and yeah Mystical Ninja serie ❤

That’s a good point. While it’s fun to talk trash and punch your buddy on the arm as competition, for other games or people you want a teammate, or to ease them into the game. For say a Contra game, someone watching your back really helps. I don’t know it you made a Wii version on this topic, but if you do, I recommend Kirby’s Epic Yarn. Not a difficult game, but it’s fun to share the experience, and most non gamers are amazed at the creative play and cuteness. It’s charming. And that’s nice sometimes. Changing it up, House of the Dead Overkill is a fun 2 player experience. But that’s just a suggestion.

@@RetroBirdGaming Sure. Most people actually don’t view the Wii favorably. I love it. Great console. And the whole concept Wii would like to play lends itself to a multiplayer video. Wii Sports, NSMB, Brawl... I think you could get some traction out of it. Maybe at some point down the line? It’s kinda like when a movie bombs but then word spreads and it becomes a cult classic like Terrorvision or Mighty Peking Man. And let’s not forget WiiU was based around the concept of five players, so it could serve as a intro of sorts. Also I think the TG16 tap allowed for five players, but only came with one port. Why? The N64 and Dreamcast both had 4 ports. So it’s a broad topic. Thanks for listening.

I do not recommend Wild Guns Reloaded if you're looking for Co-op fun. All players share three backup lives and there are no continues so each death by a player is likely to get others upset with them.

Just found out about Parsec (a program that allows easy netplay with emulators among other things) and wanted to try hosting. First game that came to mind was Goof Troop! Because of the drop-in drop-out nature of Parsec I completed half the game with one person, and the second with another. It was great fun.

Many people don’t know this, but Secret of Mana can actually be played co-op once you have more than one character in your party. You just press select on the second controller.

Biker Mice is an awesome racing game and I'd even say it's equal to if not better than Super Mario Kart. I have many fond memories of playing Kirby Super Star with my friend. Possibly the best Kirby game ever made. I'd throw in some of the puzzle games like Tetris Attack as well or are you saving that for a Top 10 Super Nintendo VS. Games to Play With a Friend video?

Well, if I ever do a versus multiplayer list it would probably span over multiple consoles. You're not alone thinking Kirby SuperStar is the best Kirby game ever and as far as the comparison of Biker Mice to Super Mario Kart, I really like Mario Kart but I tend to enjoy Biker Mice more because I feel like there's a lot more back and forth in the positioning whereas in Super Mario Kart you pretty much need to just dominate from the start in order to win (at least on the higher speeds I feel).

I also loved Biker Mice a lot, such a fun and great looking game. I played Kirby a few years back for the first time with my nephew, he was like 4 years old on the SNES classic and I just played the 2nd player. He remembered everything and I just followed along, he was also good at Yoshi but F-Zero he couldn't drive for shit.

I'll have to look into that. That's a system I had just assumed was left dead in the water. I don't have a ton of Wii games myself. I'll have to comb through it's library again and see if there's anything I'd be interested in picking up.

Wait, actually I know exactly what you're talking about. Yeah, people started buying Wiis during Quarantine because they couldn't find Switches. Naturally, the price of Wii Sports went up (I think it nearly tripled) but I wasn't aware other games for the console were getting renewed interest as well.

@@RetroBirdGaming That is my assessment of the situation as well ( being a hot item as a Switch alternative of sorts). I think all the titles you'd expect to see bump like Mario Kart, Smash, Wii Play have also gone up, as well as the price of the console itself. So I expect at some point, that will expand to other games as people (re) familiarise themselves with the library. That said, I feel like the Wii was going to be the next system in the 'nostalgia collecting' cycle anyway, at least in the next 5 years. Lots of kids from then are now working adults and that's when the urge to buy your childhood games kicks in ( as you know). I figure the quarantine has accelerated the curve of interest for aforementioned reasons.

I didn´t like that game because : 1) It is a run´n gun game, which I am not particularly fond of. 2) Some stages are like mazes, and I don´t like having to go back and forth looking for the right way to go. 3) Some levels have a time-limit, which is stressful. 4) I constantly get scared shitless by dinosaurs. 5) There is no saving feature, and the replayability of the levels is poor.

Bomberman 3 is another fantastic co-op game in the campaign mode. Riding the Louies is a nice feature. The USA didn't get it, but Europe/Japan did. Which is a shame because it's miles better than Bomberman 2
