To be perfectly honest humantorch would lose a fight against sunspot this is because humantorches only form of damage is heat (which sunspot is immune to) but in addition to heat sunspot has super strength which is something the humantorch does not have

The reason for the way his appearance presents himself sounds really cool and makes sense. As dark colors absorb and lighter reflect. If Marvel makes a sequel I hope they change his appearance and do it justice like the Corona spots and him looking like a shadow. I only saw a quick view of him in New Mutants so hopefully he actually looks like how his appearance is explained.

i was so p'offed when they kept adding powers to sunspot. the vulnerabilities were way more interesting. you get all these comics with tons of characters who can pretty much do any and every thing, then what? you get a franklin, legion, gabe summers nightmare scenario where there's really no realistic way anyone can deal with them. but they always do. and it becomes so enervating. let him be strong but vulnerable. it's a great story.

Sunspot definitely had a serious increase empowerment over the years! He even go thermal without burning his clothes. ( I know he never fried his X-MEN suits but, you know what I mean) Fly , absorb asgardian sunlight, survive in the vacuum of space? Pretty good

You failed to mention he also has the ability to change his race from a Afro Portuguese to a white man. In the movie the production staff miscasted him and wouldn't even cast a person of color for the role in the upcoming New Mutants movie!!!! My FB Avatar is Sunspot drawn by Bill Sienkiwicz back when he illustrated the New Mutants comics back in the 80's. As a result I won't be paying any money to see that atrocity of a movie......

Wow didn't know they developed him so much. I knew about his durability and flight but not two different forms and energy projection. Vulnerability is the hallmark of what helps us puny humans identify with our heros, we are vulnerable, but our favorite heros inspire us to do better in the face of overwhelming odds and dangers. When this element of risk is removed from the story we inherently care less for the heros well being, brushing off their encounters with peril more so each time. Vulnerable people with dramatic powers of destruction at the tips of their fingers is also naturally more interesting to us as the character's own powers may begin to actually scare them from use, causing a very human emotion we as the viewer can often identify with. We don't always consider the very real implications of the powers we hold over those around us. Such as the natural dangers of driving a car too quickly, or being reckless with a fire arm. Increased durability may be more useful for our hero to achieve his goals and meet the enemy head on. But forcing a character to be more thoughtful in their approach is likley to be more compelling to a reader. I wonder how much presser the marvel writer's have on them to make their heros more durable/powerful/godlike the more ridiculous DC makes their heros... just so they can say their character would win in a fight, as if that makes their characters more compelling or loved. 😆
