Amanda, I am in total agreement about Wanda. She was always one of my top 5 characters (Emma Frost, Storm, Wanda, Natasha, She-Hulk) and when they started messing around with her origin it really ticked me off. I liked that she was Erik's daughter, and always craved more interaction between her and her sister, but never got it before they movie-fied her.

Actually the current version of Mr. Sinister IS a mutant. The Sinister on Krakoa's Quiet Council is not the original version who was a mutate, he is a clone whose genetics were tweaked when the clone was created using the DNA of the original Thunderbird/ John Proudstar.

You're not mistaken. Mutate is just a general term for anyone who gained science-based powers (no magic) without being born with them (mutant/inhuman/alien). Most of Marvel's characters fall under that banner.

At one point Marvel was retconning every character to be a mutant/mutate (that was feasible) since mutants were the highest selling titles. Then with the loss of rights characters were retconned to not be mutants. Now that everything in back under the same Marvel roof, I hope balance can be achieved.

Mutates are very different from mutants. Mutants are people naturally born with powers because of having an X-gene. Mutates are literally anyone whose powers aren't magic-based and weren't present/dormant at birth. Marvel very rarely retcons anyone to be mutate, since most of their powered characters are mutates.

Ignis the Ultimate Thanks I know the difference between mutants & mutates, my point was retconning due to marketing purposes to ride the mutant wave or retcon that background after losing film rights to another company. To the casual reader even the term mutate is reminiscent of mutant which could bridge certain titles closer to the mutant craze such as Spider-Man, Submariner, Cloak & Dagger etc. Initially these character origins were more identified as accidents, experiments etc. Conversely after Fox’s acquisition, Scarlett Witch, Quicksilver & others were retconned to lose their mutant affiliations.
