Sony loves repurposing their old scripts, read David Koepp's Spider-Man 2 draft and it literally has Captain Stacy and Peter's argument at the Stacy family dinner just like TASM 1 ended up having.

I think Carnage being the villain is a bit of a stretch- he’s *the* Venom villain. But you’re not wrong. I did a video a few years ago on the 1997 Venom script- where Carnage dies in a way that’s *eerily* similar to how Eddie “Dies” in Spider-Man 3

I’ve always wondered how a Venom movie would look if they tried to reconcile the old canon w/ the newer post-Donny Cates Venom canon and this kind of comes pretty close to it like how The Last Dance seems to. It’s wild how much bl00d got squeezed from that stone to write this especially when this was shortly before (or at the start of?) the Agent Venom stuff with Flash Thompson…so they had to make it up as they went along back then 🤷🏽♂️

But would of been cool to get more in the sam rami universe
@Plexer1017 сағат бұрын
I'm mixed about this spin-off...some of the ideas were good, others not so much...Honey's character is abit inconsistent and needed some work (specifically her betrayal and pointless Symbiot)...the ending doesn't sound very satisfying...and my final gripe is Eddie's lack of continuity since he should have probably straight away wanted to find and kill Peter after waking up since he still hates his guts....I think the only way his objective could change is if he talked out his frustrations with Honey and she would have pointed out how Eddie screwed both Spidey and Peter with his fake picture etc and that would lead Eddie to thinking about changing his career to writing a biography about the "heroic Venom" which is why he gets motivated to start stopping crime and make a name for himself as a hero (you could also tie in that the Symbiot enjoyed stopping crime with Peter which adds an extra layer of motivation).
@HemmasStudios_5 сағат бұрын
I think these are definitely cool ideas- and what you’re saying makes a lot of sense. I wonder if stuff like what you’re saying would have been implemented if Estes had the opportunity to do a rewrite. But the point about Honey’s betrayal- in the script her betrayal is laid out in a cleaner way. Estes does a great job with showing Eddie on his crime stopping spree getting more and more violent and Honey getting progressively more unnerved, which works in a movie, but is much harder to communicate in a high level plot summary!
@Plexer1015 сағат бұрын
@@HemmasStudios_thanks for clearing that up. I might actually look into the script for more details if it's publicly available, but I'd just like to say that you did a great job on the video. Its high quality reflects the great deal of effort you clearly put in. Looking forward to future uploads!

I thought Spider-Man 3 was an alright movie but I felt like they just put too much and not enough for what they were marketing or just because Sony was rushing Sam Ramey on this and so it was a movie full of unfinished stories and mixed ideas and I think the current venom movies are fun and the design for venom in Spider-Man 3 was good my only problem that he was scrawny and we kept seeing eddies face too much and not enough with venom’s face but overall if they did this I’d watch it
@HemmasStudios_17 сағат бұрын
I love Spider-Man 3 but I can agree with a lot of those points- but it didn't really bother me that Venom was scrawny. I feel like Venom in SM3 feels like an adaptation of the character if he existed in the 60s with Doc Ock, Sandman, Green Goblin, etc.

“Lewis Brock” being the name of Eddie’s father is a strange call, as Spider-Man 3 uses the comic accurate name with Eddie introducing himself as “Edward Brock Jr”

This draft was dated October 23rd of 2007, if I remember correctly. As far as my conversation with Jacob goes- he never mentioned Carey. But I thought the Jim Carey as Carnage was tied to the 1997 Venom script David S Goyer wrote, but I could be wrong.

I think the biggest thing against this movie is the simple fact that all Spider-Man has to do in this universe is just go on record immediately saying "Hey Eddie Brock is actually Venom, he tried to kill me and my girlfriend, as well as Harry frickin Osborn" lol Not to mention that Venom did spin webs in Spider-Man 3... like a lot. I don't know why they tried to make it into a big moment. Also find this (early) iteration of Venom very strange... I kinda like how they keep to it being non-verbal like in the movie, but the symbiote suddenly taking on the characteristics of the Hulk with how it uncontrollably emerges just feels off in this script. Not to mention the exposition just sounds incredibly clunky... I know it was a rough draft and what not but I am super glad they didn't go with this

@@kwayneboy1524 interesting… I would have ended with it being the same bridge that the Goblin fight was on from the first movie. Peter would find one or a few pumpkin bombs and use the one on Cassidy, knocking him down into the water temporarily so Eddie can explain how he survived and so on

You know I wouldn’t even know how he would have appeared since he was killed and was made an irredeemable villain probably no doubt out of spite as Raimi never wanted to use him in the first place but since no way home had five villains instead of six for the Sinister Six that sixth could have been Grace’s Venom or the scorpion from Homecoming. Every other aspect Raimi loved from the original Spider-Man comics I still love how he brought to screen in his film trilogy. Venom just seems to be that one outlier where I've grown to enjoy Tom Hardy's version more cause his movies feel like they were developed more by people who are actually fans of the character and the deeper lore of the symbiotes, along with just looking way more accurate to his iconic design from the comics as well. Also doesn't help that for as cool as Tobey's climatic fight with him was at the end of SM3, Venom was barely in it for as long as Sandman was before getting killed off completely. Love or hate the new Venom movies, but they've definitely done a lot more for the character that what Raimi was able to (or wanted to) with his extremely minor role in Spider-Man 3.
