One I’m surprised isn’t on this list is the one mutant that disintegrates people just by being near them. He can’t control it and eventually tells Wolverine to kill him. Worst part is when Wolvy explains that if his DNA were just slightly different, he’d pretty much be an X-Man, so he essentially was given a bad hand since birth

you referring to Ultimate X-Men #41? if so, you're almost right (the only name for the kid is the alias 'J' so I'll call him that) J's X-Gene was activated as he was going through puberty, and nothing seemed off at first his mom wasn't downstairs (she already disintegrated), and nobody was in town, when he went to school like usual, everyone around him just combusted to a fine ash J didn't ask Wolverine to kill him, Xavier found him and Fury put in the order for J to be put down for everyone's safety the two had a talk over it, and it was actually J who asked (as verbatim as I can get) "So what, just one chromosome to the left and I could've been on the X-Men?", to which Logan just told him "Maybe" they shared a beer, and Logan had the kid finish it before taking him out and leaving the cave, the whole thing said to be covered up as a chemical leak, so anti-mutant people wouldn't use this as ammunition for their arguments TL;DR - you're mostly right: Fury sent Logan to kill J J asks about his DNA being slightly different they had a beer each before the deed was done

I loved the comic but I wonder if her de-aging was measurable. If each transformation knocked off a year, for example, then she could transform once per year and effectively stop her aging process. Sure, being super powerful once a year isn't very good, but being a young woman who effectively never ages would have benefits.

I think the kid who's mutant power is to kill everyone around him involuntarily should have been number 1. Honestly, the worst mutant power I would say is one that belongs to a mutant called Forgetmenot. He is a mutant with the ability of imperceptibly. Sure, every time you try to kill him you always miss which is cool for him but the downside is that the only time you know he exists is when your looking straight at him. If you look away, his entire existence is instantly forgotten about. You could have a 4 hour conversation with him and forget it in a fraction of a second. Imagine not being able to have a loved one because she keeps forgetting you guys ever met. God even having someone your in love with and no matter how many times you tell them, it will never work

In most cases here the problem in not in the power itself but in the addition "without control", and most nice powers would be less than desirable if that element was included. Teleportation is no longer desirable if you will teleport every time you sneezes to a random location and have no control over where you go even if you try to teleport back on purpose. Under those circumstances the most limited your range is the better. The power to explode is nice, with the control over it, if you ever find yourself in a situation where suicide is the best option. Depending on context, and the power of your explosion, you may be able to take with you the people torturing you. Monster Girl's power is nice, you just have to regulate how often you will use it, eternal youth is not a bad thing to have and the power to be a giant super-strong thing for a while every from time to time is a interesting bonus. Besides, you can stay in your "monster" form for some time, enjoying not aging, if the gender bending isn't too much of an issue for you, personally. The ability to fly only means you must live your entire life inside a locked room, if you cannot control when it activates and the direction you go. I believe we are so used to the cliché of super-powers being those costless, miraculous, things, that we do not consider the base-line of not having any power. We compare those imperfect super-power the the "norm" of usual comic book supper powers. As long as you have control over your power, is hard to imagine any power that would be bad to have. Worse case scenario is if you get something that is so context-specific that the context to make it useful will not happen in your entire life: but that does not make your life any worse, just identical to what your life would be if you had no power at all. Most people seem to live under the assumption that having a life is not an entirely bad thing.

You forgot one element is limitation, no matter how much you control you have there's still major drawbacks. Major comic books (DC and Marvel) tend to forgot to address most times in order for certain powers function effectively while still retaining some form normality, a second power is required. For example if individual just had nigh- invulnerability all your senses would be non-existent or blocked. Essentially you have no sense of awarness. Comic book called rising stars actually tackled this I won't spoil for you.

There's always Kid Psycho who the Legion of Super-Heroes were "reluctantly forced" (their own term, incidentally) to turn down for Legion membership. They really wanted the guy 'cause he had some pretty nifty mental powers (mainly psychokinesis--aka telekinesis) but the problem was that EVERY SINGLE USE of his powers shortened his lifespan by A YEAR. The Legion did, however, make him a "Reserve Member" who would only be called upon for the direst of extreme emergencies (though he was apparently invited to all sorts of fun Legion events, like weddings and probably fondue parties) because they didn't feel they could accept the responsibility for his shortened life (even though it would be Kid Psycho's own decision). But, just imagine it: You need to get something off a shelf and you can't quite reach it so you just "nudge" it to within reach and *BLAM* you've now cut your lifespan by a full year (just because you were too lazy to go get a better step stool or a "finger-longer" device). And you do have to wonder how many years Kid Psycho would actually have to live considering the fact that he HAD to have used his powers many times as a baby or toddler. I mean, go watch some old "Bewitched" episodes and see how Tabitha used her powers to get a stuffed toy in her crib or create her very own mommy that she didn't have to share with anyone. Young children act impulsively--that's their nature. By the time Kid Psycho first applied to the Legion, he might easily have only had a couple of years left to live--all because he didn't have the necessary control as a little kid.

I think one rare example of a scary power to have, that is entirely under the control of the person who has it, is the mind control power of that Mesmero fellow in the Netflix version. However, it only became such a terrible power to have in this case because Mesmero got is as a children. Mercifully, he isn't capable to erase memories or would be impossible for him to form any notion that other people exist in the world. Still, the way it was the power of mind control at young age took from him most opportunities normal children have to learn limits from responsible adults. Is hard not to feel sorry for him when you realize that. Perhaps the problem is still control in this case. He does not really "control" the power as a child same way an adult would. Because he does not control his own impulses. And having the power from that point own he never will learn to control them. An adult with formed personality, and therefore a moral compass of some kind, having the power of control others would have the choice to use it in a completely selfish way or not. Take the needs, opinions and inclinations of outers under consideration or not, weight consequences of their desires for others or not. Children, as children, are simplistic and selfish. They have no choice in that regard. Humans learn that other people are "real" by having their whims denied by those other people. This awareness does not came fully developed with "the hardware" of human brain.
@jeremiahbristow7609

I was looking after my father as a child, so not every child is selfish. From the age of 3, if that story about me trying to fight off ambulance workers with a spatula is to be believed, and the age of 6 from my memories.
@thiagom8478
@thiagom8478 Жыл бұрын
I respectfully disagree. All children are selfish and there is really no shame in that, @@jeremiahbristow7609 (except extreme, pathologic, cases. Which your comment do not suggest, as far as I can see. To be selfish/altruist one needs to interact with the world in a structured way, bellow a certain level of reasoning the expression "selfish" loses its meaning) . They also have poor memory and better cicatrisation than adults, and all that helps our specie to survive. Nothing wrong with that. Being selfish does not mean never doing anything for the sake of others. Specially when this others are important to your wellbeing. Perhaps that is the root of our divergence of opinion. A selfish person is still a person, therefore a biological organism, not a Mathematical equation. A odd number is completely odd, all the time, but a selfish people is not selfish in the same way an odd number is odd. Besides, all odd numbers are equally odd. Selfish people are selfish in different degrees, and ways. But what is normal behaviour for a child would be absurdly selfish in an adult. While an selfish adult would still look like a mostly altruistic children. Anyway, I tank you for your answer to my comment.

Endeavor from My Hero Academia is not impervious to flame but has an extremely high resistance to it. He can do a Prominence Burn attack that lights up the sky and come out alive. People without flame abilities can die immediately. If he does it a lot he needs to cool down and can even burn himself if enough heat is generated. Considering how high his flame threshold is, it's hardly a limitation. It's just that he doesn't have complete 100% unconditional immunity like Johnny Storm.

Mineta and Momo both have not-great Quirks, honestly. Mineta's is kind of not the most useful (though he makes it work) and involves tearing pieces of his scalp off whenever he uses it, and Momo could easily destroy her own body if she has to use hers too often (plus the fact that her ability relies on either having an ally to wield her home-grown weapons or her own ability to use whatever she creates, something she struggles with in combat situations).

As for sonic scream as well we’ve seen how that power can backfire in Doctor strange multiverse of madness, dude basically blew up his own brain because Wanda somehow removed his mouth and he tried to scream, so if he was about to speak and you somehow managed to shut his mouth then theoretically if even the smallest of sounds came out of his throat then his power would just backfire into his own skull and turn his brain into a smoothie

That's just the Movies, and the Movies butcher power adaptations all the time. Just look at Hulk, the dude is a shell of his comic book self. Marvel seems to have a knack for disrespecting fan favorite characters, started with Hulk, then Professor X, Mr Fantastic, AND Black bolt all got trampled in the same movie for the sake of the plot To get to the point, Black bolt wouldn't die like that, he's been trained his entire life from birth to not speak when in pain. There are many instances of him being *tortured* and still refusing to make a single sound. Black bolt would never die like that, purely because ALL his training has been about self control. Also, I'm fairly certain someone did something similar to him in the comics, and it just stopped the noise, he didn't die or anything. It's just the dumb MCU degrading good characters :(

I always thought Monster Girl's monster form getting larger while she got younger meant her monster form was keeping her correct age. Like she had 2 different bodies, one with normal time, and one stuck reserve aging. It always made more sense than her monster form being stronger/bigger the younger she gets.

Black Bolt is an an example of what I call "Power Creeping", which is when a character's power changes over time to become more interesting or serviceable to a plot - like a hero who has never had any sort of mental powers resisting a psychic attack just by will power, then next thing you know they are a telepath. Black Bolt's original situation is that his POWER was the ability to manipulate electrons, which enabled him to fly and generate power blasts, the voice thing was more of a side effect. But over time it became established that his voice IS his power, with nary a mention or depiction of the electron thing. So, that's that.

The mutant you are referring to is Liz Allan, also known as Firestar. She has the ability to generate and manipulate microwave radiation, which allows her to create and control intense heat, project powerful blasts, and fly. However, she is not immune to the heat she generates, and prolonged use of her powers can cause her to suffer burns and other negative side effects. Liz Allan first appeared as Firestar in "Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends" (1981), an animated television series. Her comic book debut was in "Uncanny X-Men #193" (1985). However, her origin story was fully explored in the four-issue limited series "Firestar" (1986), written by Tom DeFalco and illustrated by Mary Wilshire.

He wasn't talking about Firestar since she has been around for much longer than a few panels. Also Firestar was immune to the flames but not the radiation her powers let off. Her powers ended up giving her cancer. She survived but pretty sure she wouldn't use her powers again.

No version of Pyro is immune to the flames he generates - which is why he almost always uses wrist-mounted flamethrowers to generate the fire for him. He COULD will flames into existence and blast them out of himself, but because he isn’t immune, he gets burnt if he does.

I saw an anime where this kids power is this force that does everything possible to prevent his death so long as he wants to die, so it creates a force field, telekenticly throws things out of the way, or if he starves himself his power will force anything edible around down his throat, including people. However his power will stop working if he wants to live, it only works as long as he wants to kill himself, which he does alot

There is a Lois and Clark comic I have somewhere (based off the tv show of the same name, superman universe) where they played off the concept of the fantastic 4 with supreme caveats to their powers. The mister fantastic was losing his molecular stability, the miss fantastic was phasing out of reality, the human torch burned up in his own flame I think? And the thing was in incredible pain to the point where he ended himself in a vacuum pod or something? It was super weird, and definitely copied the way they got their powers with cosmic radiation.

I've actually been seeing if I can train myself to have "compass powers" - currently I'm not actually trying, and I need to see if I can figure out a better way, but given I have semi-actively tried to get compass powers (as described in this video), I think it's safe to say that that's the power from this list that I'd most want - but of the ones that aren't available to every resident of Manhattan, I'd probably want pyrokinesis - it would still be generally useable if I didn't have to be within burning range of the fire I was controlling, and even if I did have to be, with practice it should be possible to make a burst of flame that lasted long enough to get some dry grass to burn in a survival situation, but not long enough to burn me.

If there's any powers I want then omni magic is automatically in the list (it's the magic equivalent of nigh omnipotence because it allows the ability to use all types of magic the ability to draw/take the magic of entire universe's/dimensions and this power requires the magic to be on par with the magic of deitys and concept based magic is a thing so you would for example have reality magic time magic and space magic which means I could become a god whenever I feel like it)
