The best survival tool you have is your brain. Whatever your preference of tools, anything is better than nothing. A skilled person with a cheap tool will be more successful than an untrained one with top of the range equipment. In my time travelling Africa, Asia etc ive seen people do almost everything with cheap homemade cutting tools .

All gimmicks to sucker in the people who don't know any better. Gerber really screwed the pooch when they teamed up with Bear Grylis.

They were making a stack of cash until the Chinese/Vietnamese counterfeits started turning up. What it did to their reputation with the outdoors community, their bread and butter customers, maybe not so good. Their products are alright generally but there are usually better options out there, I'd be tempted to find a gimik in their position too.

First rule in surviving being stuck in the middle of nowhere. DON'T put yourself in that position.

Yeah expensive gimmicks...however....in the middle of nowhere many of these items could still save your life .

The hatchet actually works. It's limited, but it does work. In an emergency, I would only want to gather smaller pieces of wood for a fire. It drives stakes into the ground and I carry a knife every day, so it doesn't need to do that job. The other items seem to be of little use.

I've got a YoungDo heavy duty tool. It packs away small and has different configurations which work really well, except for the saw, which is mainly used for vegetation rather than hard wood. It also has a pointless bottle opener which just acts as a hook to snag on things!

I can't lie. The MSK 1 looked pretty awesome to me. The ergonomics seemed like everything I'm looking for in a camping knife. BTW for the Gerber haters: Gerber makes some great knives and gear. They also make some really shitty knives and gear. It spans the spectrum from quality knives like the Strong Arm all the way down to a plastic cheese grater box 😂

The only BS im seeing in this video is the blatant plagiarism. Regurgitated verbatim with ZERO explanation. Why dont you make a video explaining your stance, thus maybe actually educating people (although i doubt you actually can formulate an informed opinion)

The MSK1 seems fairly useful. I think I would rather have IT, than a tracker. Yes, the handle “survival kit” is as expected, a gimmick. Oh hell, and now as I watch again, the ridiculous sheath options are pretty funny.

If you can't do anything and haven't learned anything, you just sell stuff with the idea that it's the best survival tool you have to have. Or you claim that you can use it to sharpen drills. Then it practically sells itself - even if it's no good.

Or... you can just go to the thrift store and buy a small shovel, a small saw, a hatchet, a medium sized axe and a kitchen knife for around the price of one small designer folding knife.

@GeDePeU
@GeDePeU Ай бұрын
"The jack" is practical and I see no reason why 440C steel would not be a good choice. There was another rugged knife at the end of the video that was basically a piece of steel with good ergonomic design. While some of the tools seem to be BS (like the tinder maker) from a survival viewpoint, the overall claim of "top 10 survival BS ..." is BS in itself.
@bunyan6101
@bunyan6101 Ай бұрын
@@GeDePeU the “jack” is gimmicky and doesn’t do one thing particularly well. 440c is junk metal in the world of knives. The trend has been to move to more impressive “super” or “tool” steels such as magna cut or d2 etc. for my money give me a simple 1095 high carbon. It’s easy to sharpen to a hair splitting edge and due to its high carbon content can throw sparks off of the spine with a piece of flint. As for the list being BS, it most certainly is. While I’ve seen people try and defend this item or that, the fact remains that none of the items are very good. They certainly would not be the choice of any “survival expert “ or serious outdoorsman. Viewed through that lens I have to agree with the original poster.
