Based on the memoir of Ted Bundy’s girlfriend Elizabeth Kendall, Netflix’s biographical crime thriller “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile” brings Bundy’s relationships, murders, and trial to the screen. With Joe Berlinger at the helm and Zac Efron and Lily Collins in leading roles, the film certainly has talent to spare. But how much is fact and how much fiction? Join us as we count down what the biopic for factually right and wrong. What did YOU think of the movie? Let us know in the comments!

There was a moment when I wondered “man what if Ted actually didn’t do all this stuff” and that’s when I understood Ted Bundy’s hypnotic charisma portrayed well through Zac Effron

Me Sa perhaps to postpone his execution? He lead detectives to where he said he put the head of a victim and they never found anything. Also a lot of the so-called confessions are third person. The times he does confess tend to be things anyone could’ve read in news papers or news. For the cherry on top perhaps he worked for CIA. This story and everything surrounding it is political. Starting with the reinstatement of the death penalty in 70’s. Ted Bundy story would ultimately persuade the mainstream to accept and stand behind the death penalty.

Zac Efron did an extraordinary job with this role.I just can't comprehend how he could even do this role, and get in a mindset of a sociopath, and do it so well! At some times i even forgot that it's Zac who's there on the screen, not Bundy, for example the interview at 3:03 the resemblance is uncanny! Zac displayed all of Ted's mannerisms and the way he talked, including the charm and the easy manipulation with people. He will definitely get some nominations for this role, perhaps even an award.

I agree! But you have to understand, when making a movie based on a true story, there will always be incorrect details. It will never be exactly like the real thing. Hollywood does things to spice it up, make it more entertaining. Take things like Titanic for example, they put in 2 completely fictional characters to have a more interesting story. The Tupac movie All Eyez on Me, wasn’t accurate by a long shot. That’s just how it works.

“Jerry” may not have been a real character, but there was a man named Hank that she met who did help her get over him and also married her. I’ve read her book...the second edition. She did insist on being involved in making sure it was accurate, saying “if they were going to tell MY story, then I was going to make sure it was right.” She never visited him in any prison, though she attended his trial for aggravated kidnapping of Carol DaRonch. To get all of Elizabeth’s side, as well as her daughter Molly’s (which was horrific for a child to experience) then I encourage everyone to read “The Phantom Prince”, second edition. It answers a lot of questions from her POV.

Nicolas This one was to raise awareness. To his girlfriend, he was deemed incapable of those crimes, but the reveal emphasizes the duplicity that exists with a maniac of his caliber. There must have been over a dozen films based on Bundy. This one served as a cautionary tale. Serial killers sit at dinner tables, they stay at hotels, they eat at restaurants. They can be our friends, family members, neighbors or that popular guy at the party. He craved fame, he got infamy.

So he was pretty violent sexually. He choked her, and was pretty aggressive. It’s also her perspective and in an abusive relationship u tend to omit the abuse and hyper focus on the good. They honestly took liberties with things that didn’t matter to a larger framework. There is a scene where they have sex and he almost kills her by choking her. She ignores it. They rnt going to show every violent fight, but how she felt safe with someone who is killing many women. She didn’t see it.

hart 112 this was purposely done because ted bundy was actually this likeable to other people. he was getting a multitude of fan letters during his trails and quite a few marriage proposals. everyone knew what he was getting tried for, but they just liked ted bundy so much they didn’t believe it or even that they just didn’t care. he was charismatic, attractive, and had “a manner such that you had no choice but to trust him so fully and unconventionally.” by making him so likeable, it can really throw the audience for a loop because they *want* to like him, even though most of them know that it’s confirmed he’s killed over 30 women. it really puts it into perspective of what it was like to meet ted bundy and see him on trial when it *wasnt* confirmed he had killed so many innocent lives.

More things they left out: - Elizabeth told Bundy that she called the cops and gave his name while they were still in a relationship, she did not wait until they were broken up and they continued dating for a long time after that. - Ted confessed to Elizabeth before anyone else. - Elizabeth took Ted’s confession to the police and Bundy threatened to kill her family if the policed used that against him in court. - In the end the video says it is not clear if Elizabeth giving the authorities might be the reason he was captured. In reality it probably was because Elizabeth called the cops in BOTH states repetitively and caused the cops to not remove his name from suspect list even when they thought he was fine. Him being on the suspect list was the reason why cops searched his car and found the suspicious items that led to his first arrest. - She also provided them with Ted’s bills and detectives were able to see from those that Ted was actually in the states during times the murders occurred. This helped them to link Bundy to his other murders.
