In laymans terms "Pay attention", because the game takes place 100,000 years forward in zelda history, another 10,000 years since the fall of calamity ganon, and another ONE HUNDRED YEARS when link awakes from his injuries.

My theory for BoTW is that the timelines are converging because of Gannon ending the cycle of reincarnation. Would explain things being in there from all three timelines.

I always believed that the Happy Mask Salesman can travel between the timelines and is responsible for the timelines converging, since he's probably the reason Link has Majora's Mask hanging on his wall in A Link Between Worlds.

Actually the English translation botched that Line. It goes something more like "His desire to destroy You is so great He will never stop reincarnating" that all His pure Malice towards Link and Zelda gave Him the strength to take that form If You read the English translation close enough You can still derive the same meaning but no one especially in the heat of the moment is going to interpret it that way So according to the Japanese version Ganon can still reincarnate But man what a cool interpretation this comment would have been 😤

Yung Dom Eh, I don't think that would be the issue. People are inherently averse to seeing cartoons become live-action regardless of how well it is done. It's just extremely unnatural and our brians generally don't like it. Of course, your rational side can override this aversion sometimes, but that's not true for a lot of people. A live-action Legend of Zelda movie is guaranteed to get tons of hate regardless of how good the movie is simply by virtue of being live-action. And that's a shame, but that's just how the human mind works.

As a leftie I say fuck that. Skyward Sword keeps glitching out on me when I try to do all those finesse moves the game expects. I will always consider Link left handed as he is the only one I know apart from some obscure final fantasy characters such as the blue haired pirate in FF2.

Cupid exe I was a huge Zelda player at the time. Here is what happened. Time gave us Adult link. We all loved the adult part of time. Nintendo gave us a video of Link and Ganondarf sword fighting one on one in high detail with dark gritty shadows. But the next game we got was Windwaker. Yes it was an amazing game but it was just not what we wanted at that time. Windwaker would have been a system seller for the Wii or Wiiu but at that time we wanted Twilight.

I've beat Windwaker 2 times and Twilight 1 Time 10 times. Twilight is still one of my favorites and most I sub to hate it... so my taste are a little different. Loving Breath of the Wild is like the first time playing Zelda on NES back in the day on my Gold Cart. Windwaker was an amazing game only thing I hated was the long sailing bits. Waiting on Switch release of Hd versions.

Yeah, I care more for each individual game's story, taking it as being an old "Legend" that has been passed down through the generations... which of course leads to the reason hyrule's geography tends to dramatically change between games, the recurrence of various bosses/villains, etc. Same few stories, but just morphed by the passing of time, like all orally told tales.

In case anyone wants to know how... 1. Go to Gerudo Town in the desert. You MUST have the female disguise to enter. 2. I’m pretty sure you go into the town, then head to the right of the town. A woman will have what looks like a hotel. 3. Speak to the woman, she will tell Link that being a warrior is a hard life and needs “refreshing” every now and then 4. She asks you if you would “like to spend the night in her service” and say Yes. 5. The screen goes black and the woman says “Wow your body is a lot more like a Voe (Male) than any Vah I’ve seen” then you hear Link and the woman laugh and you hear a thumping noise. 6. Your health will be restored. You’ve done it! ( None of this was made up. This happend to me on my second play through) 7. Have fun!

Regarding the timeline, I think the thing so many people are missing is that it may be a CONVERGENCE, given how we the Zora and Rito, who are implied to be an evolution of the Zora, coexisting, alongside enemies that have only existed in the downfall timeline. Alternatively, the entire timeline thing could just be to please the fans who insist there was a timeline.

Well, it's no surprise that Nintendo didn't have a coherent storyline for the series. It was more a thing that the fans were desperately asking for.. if I'm not mistaken. Please don't forget that when most people say that Nintendo was always doing their own thing, well they were actually listening to their fans and supporters. Any business does so to a certain extend. So overall I'd say, this is a nice video.. good investigation done.. sad that the US market was such a buzz kill in the past.. since most islands and countries in the americas and caribbean depended on them. And please, your voice sounds fine.. raise the volume there and lower the volume on the special effects.

“Radio Zelda” was my favorite LOZ commercial. Kind of surreal; like the end of the world is coming, and it was Y2K at the time. Armed soldiers surrounding a compound in the middle of the desert, some place like Area 51, where they protect some kid playing Zelda? Showing the moon getting closer, and that guy in the park saying he was using up all his minutes because the moon was going to drop. Good stuff, very creepy, great for a Halloween release.

11:40 funny thing about one commercial I saw, one that was more modern was showcasing different zelda titles on handheld with uplifting music, and in the center then corner of the screen I saw a creature I hadn't seen in a zelda game before, I later discovered it was the minish from the minish cap; and from then I got hooked to the minish cap, even though our hero didn't have a magic bar, it filled my heart with wonder and joy and well, a magical experience.

Here's an idea: THERE IS NO TIMELINE!! All the games were ment to be standalone but because there's same/similar characters, fans figured they all must be connected, so the kept bugging Nintendo until they said fine, here, and have a wonky timeline that barely works. So to critique Nintendo saying oh they're stupid for not even knowing where their own game fits on the timeline is ridiculous, because there's not ment to be a timeline! It's like trying to link all the Final Fantasy games together because oh they all have chocobos and moogles and Cid, so they must be connected. Yet no one complains about no FF timeline. End the Zelda timeline BS!

It does have a placement, it’s 10k years after OoT, but it’s not just the adult, failed or child timelines, it’s all three remerged. Understanding temporal mechanics we can easily see how that can occur. Timelines can shift due to major events creating causality loops, those casualty loops need corrected or they create a temporal paradox which can destroy time itself. The act of link traveling back and forth through time in OoT created these very causality loops. So the timeline split to handle the paradoxes. However at a later point something happens in the timeline that allows the lines to recombine into a single stream. That recombinant event could have been the first use of the divine beasts mentioned in BotW or it could have happened before then, remember the divine beasts were built 10k yrs before BotW and that’s when they first were used against calamity ganon. Then again 100 yrs prior to BotW. That first use could have been the catalyst that combined the lines or even the awakening of calamity ganon considering he was the pure version of ganon/Demise who no longer wanted to keep reawakening as he was. Temporal mechanics 101.

I'm still vouching for either a "dragon break" most likely or occuring concurrently in all timelines. For the dragon break idk why people think its farfetched when we only don't deal with magic, but the divine themselves. After all Hylia in Skyward Sword knew her own plan of reincarnating as Zelda so she sent Impa to the present-time we play in. Whereas at the end of the game, young Impa and the old lady are revealed to be one and the same. Plus with Fi being a supernatural creation of Hylia, despite being technically present in all 3 timelines, I would say if the merge were to be true, Link dying in Breath of the Wild 100 years ago is not only a reference to the downfall timeline, but a lesson she learned from her many ventures with Link. Heck, Zelda would have never even thought about the Shrine of Resurrection if it wasn't for Fi suggesting it and thus giving her master a second chance that she wasn't able to do in the downfall timeline before said dragon break. As for Nintendo themselves, they probably referenced a slew of games and inserted the many of the races, attributes, even namesakes (Vah Medoh is Medli in the Adult timeline while Vah Ruto Rudania (anagram) and Nabooris are downfall timeline and to an extent adult), etc of many Zelda games in Breath of the Wild as a way to veer us off from timeline theories. After all with Breath of the Wild and many future games ahead of it, I don't think Nintendo wanted to write themselves into a corner considering they always had to consider a timeline placement with many of their games in regards to gameplay elements and story.

I do like the timeline for fanstory-purposes, but I think it would be fatal if the developers opressed themselves with it. After all, they're selling a GAME, not a STORY. Forcing a consistent timeline is something a novelist can do, not a game developer. Like, just imagine them saying this: "Welp, we cannot sell and use the Adult OoT-Link for BotW for the Biggoron Sword bc we already got Wolf-Link in here, and they're from different timelines." This sounds like bullshit, and it is. For the sake of the timeline, I say BotW merges the three splits back together. And for the sake of my sanity, please stop this stupid war over an exact placement...

Aonuma has already confirmed that there is no actual timeline, they never think on a timeline when making a new game (it wasn't a specific comment about BotW), that the timeline was just made to please the fans who demanded one. And the ones that made the books (darkhorse) were given freedom regarding the creation of the timeline

I know this is over a year old. I used to assume The Legend of Zelda were just stories based of a Legend or a "real" event. Like Zelda 1, LttP, and OoT were retellings of the same story. The story was never written, so the way it is told can become very different after years and years of retellings by different people. Then the other games were people making up there own story about what they felt Link did after defeating Ganon. It doesn't make sense now.

As someone that grew up in that era, lemme explain. OoT (and MM specially) had already set up a trend on what to expect from a 3D Zelda title, along with Nintendo showing pictures of a Link in an environment that would later be polished into Twilight Princess. So while people were sore over Nintendo ditching support for the N64 over the new project Dolphin (GameCube), they were willing to look forward towards an even more mature and serious GC Zelda game. The choice of changing the art style was a sudden one for many, as many didn't know what to expect of a toon aesthetic, fearing they would dumb the Zelda series down in order to appeal to a larger audience, as they were already doing with their promotion of the GC. So many (teenage me included) simply lashed out and despised the game. Of course, 20 years is a huge hindsight to see Nintendo does care about their IPs, but it was different then, given the infancy of the internet and that videogames were seen still as a niche entertainment, not the mainstream it is now. I ended up playing WW on the Wii, 10 years after it released, as an adult. And I felt a surge of remorse and shame for having hated on a game that was as amazing and expansive for so long. While MM remains my favorite Zelda title, WW is the second one, and the aesthetic of toon Link grew on me, I loved how much more expressive and fantastical every character and setting was. Hence, why I abstain now from being a fan of anything. I give everything now the benefit of the doubt, and don't judge until I actually get my feet wet on what I'm going to criticize. _I learned my lesson with Wind Waker, lolz._

I definitely feel like the BOTW era is pretty much going to be Nintendo’s version of a Dragon Break, where multiple endings of a game or timeline turn out to happen all at once. It would actually benefit them at this stage even more than it did Bethesda during Daggerfall. My thoughts: Considering you primarily hear references to Skyward Sword, Ocarina of Time, and Twilight Princess, I’m willing to guess that this is primarily the timeline BOTW takes place in. However, because of the convergence with ‘incompatible timelines’ (Wind Waker where Hyrule ends up being flooded and LttP where the Hero of Time was defeated), the result was a time paradox that led to a rewritten history and the creation of the first and second Calamities at opposite ends of the timeline.

I always theorized that the "Hero has Fallen" part of the timeline were actually "subconscious dreams" of Link. This mostly spawned from (*spoilers on a 26 year old game about to be remade*) Link's Awakening being a dream. It also explains why characters from Ocarina of Time & Majora's Mask (games I haven't played until recently due to no N64) are in the Oracle Games.

I like the video but I feel the Zelda cartoon explanation is not justified. Saying that it destroyed the idea of what Zelda was is wrong. It was released in 1989 and the only thing fans had to go on story wise were 2 games, Zelda and Zelda 2. That was the whole Zelda world. Zelda 1 only had the story line in the manual and if you didnt read it you only knew what you read in the intro screen if you decided to wait for it and read it. Zelda 2 introduced villages and more interaction but story wise still only in the intro and manual. So the cartoon was the first deeper dive into the Zelda world, yes it wasn't the greatest story but it was made for kids and most 80s kids will tell you they loved the cartoon. If you're someone who didn't grow up in the 80s then the cartoon looks like a disaster when looking back through the lens of someone who's first zelda games were zelda64 onwards. It's right to say Nintendo wants to forget about it because it doesn't at all represent what Nintendo has grown the zelda world into, but to say that it destroyed the idea of zelda when the world wasnt fully developed yet doesn't adequately make for a reason to bash it.

As cute as Triforce Hero is, it has almost no business being in the tineline and especially no business being a shoehorn sequel to ALBW. That's just silly! They just did this for the hell of pleasing us timeline nerds (not that I am one but I do like to think about the possibilities once in a while.) I think it would go better in the Adult Timeline if anything. But that's just me. Hyrule Encyclopedia isn't even made by Nintendo, but instead by some randoms in charge of Nintendo Dream Magazine. These fellows were granted creative freedom to their little heart's content, so that why the timeline and lore doesn't make any sense. Nintendo themselves had almost no involvement with the book aside from licensing it. I also want that OoT Ura Expansive to be release on day. Surprisingly I really enjoyed Master Quest considering that OoT is my least favorite Zelda. Anything that add and build up the game to an even better product (to me personally) is something I definitely would like to see in action. I felt that while the game had solid dungeons, the rest of OoT was severely lackluster and uninteresting. If they make Ura Zelda, it could fix up some of the problems I have with the game and make it an even better experience. I hope that if they release OoT again as a console remake, that they'll consider the Ura edition but with fresh new ideas (since they reuse unused assets in future games.) It could be fun!

ViceCommando I TiVo'ed MINO off Discovery Family once. It was a textbook example of how NOT to do a movie involving evolutionary biology and non-avian dinosaurs. For one, the dino shown in the movie looked awfully wrong. It should have FEATHERS! Also, humans are synapsids and thus mammals. Dinosaurs are DIAPSIDS, part of the larger sauropsid clade traditionally known as reptiles. The broader dinosauromorph clade is closest to pterosaurs (extinct along with the non-bird dinos) and, more distantly related, crocodilians. Hollywood ought to learn taxonomy.
