The most important one not discussed is play what makes you happy. If you want to play a hippie empire bent on befriending everyone around you, do it. If you want to try to murderhobo your way to the end date, do it. The worst thing a casual player can do is try to take advice from minmaxers when they don't intend to play that way. Remember who your advice is coming from, because I doubt this will be the only video new players see if they happen to watch this first.

One tip I think might be worth noting, is that attrition can work. Don't try to win a war by doing a Jutland and crashing all your fleets into all the enemy. Draw them into your systems and try to break them up, you can give ground and it is often very effective. Even if you think you should be winning tactics are a useful thing to think about. Also you probably want to kill a fallen empire at some point as they often have cool tech nice planets....

I just finished a 1600 star 750 year game recently! Not something I'd suggest to most people... (yes, galaxy size is modded)
@kortanul5 ай бұрын
@TrueWolves 1000 star games are my norm, a 1600... that sounds delightful. I love the weirdness and careful, creeping fighting that you run into when there's obscenely well equipped rivals with forces that make even the awakened empires simply blink out. The game becomes an economy and people matter more than diplomatic or martial, unless you go the route of domination via senate. Done right, even a crisis playthrough is a very different matter with a long, drawn out battle for survival from the others
@TrueWolves5 ай бұрын
One of my favorite parts was how it took over 200 years for the last pieces of the galaxy to be claimed. Modifying the game up to 3000 stars is relatively easy. While going over that is a bit trickier but still on the easy side of modding. Most games or videos claiming to be over 4k stars are lying since without changing galaxy spawn values, not just giving it a bigger number, the galaxy settings "run out of space" to place stars. However, performance will drop dramatically and generating the galaxy takes a nearly exponential amount of time and RAM. 10,000 stars takes hours and >16 GB of RAM. 25,000 can take >128 GB of RAM and possibly days, but its been done at least once.
@kortanul5 ай бұрын
@TrueWolves I'm thinking a 1400 star game would be the perfect balance for me since 1000 star games sometimes leave me feeling I'm not done yet The generation time between galaxy sizes seems exponential, even in the base settings, so I'm not surprised that 2k+ gets crazy

I wouldn't recommend. One time when i started a new game i spawned right next to a xenophobic fallen empire and they said dismantle your starbase or we gonna murder you. I played along thinking i could appease them until i move my homeworld to somewhere safer but the game rebuilt my starbase automatically because i had a planet in the system. So this cycle repeated itself a few times: fallen empire: remove your starbase me: ok. game: rebuilds starbase fallen empire: REMOVE YOUR STARBASE! me: ok ok. game: rebuilds starbase fallen empire: REMOVE YOUR STARBASE!! NOW! me: ok ok, its not me! its the game! game: rebuilds starbase fallen empire: Our patience is growing thin, do you seek to mock us? me: screw this. Go to hell. fallen empire: die xeno scum! After this, within 1 min, several fallen empire fleets adding up to over 1m fleet power entered my home system, and since i had ACOT installed they almost instantly turned my homeworld into a fractured graveyard, wiping me from the game before it had begun. Granted i was using mods so maybe that explains why my planet was destroyed and yours wasn't. But still a lesson, be careful when pi*sing off the fallen empires.

just got the game and thought i would try to play it without any guide besides the tutorial. for the first hour i was doing pretty good, but then made first contact. as my envoy was doing his thing i had an alert about aliens taking human hostages and flying off with them. suspicious of the first contact species but i cant be hasty, after the envoy is done the first thing the alien says to me is that he knows humans inside and out in an ominous tone. "alright then xeno" scum i say to myself make a fleet of 20 corvettes because i thought it would be enough. declare war with a 1.2k power fleet, succesfuly take their neighboring star port, but then 2 fleets with 1.7k power come and destroy mine, they keep going and take my eden prime colony and the dune world. mfw the indomitable human spirit didnt work. after being humiliated and having my fledgling empire ruined i cut my loses and deleted the save file. all in all 10/10 game, though i sometimes wonder how life would be if i was a regular joe on that earth.

I gotta disagree a bit on #4 with the way the new immigration system works. More open jobs gives you more immigration pull. You're paying a lot up front in upkeep for empty buildings but are also playing the long game by growing your pop count much higher than the other empires, dwarfing them and making their economy of scale inconsequential compared to yours. This is only relevant if you're open to migration of course (which most people are)
@anon94694 ай бұрын
Huh. Uh, I should probably get better at that. I tend to block most migration treaties because I don't want random Arctic-adjusted pops settling my Ocean planets.

Number 1. Buying the dlc, that shit is the price of full indie games and we’re getting less than a lot of 5-10$ expansions now a days, I know they need to make money to keep the doors open but there has to be a balance here that isn’t making us pay nearly 200$ for all the dlc on a normal sale or maybe if your lucky 150$-ish on one of the big yearly sales

@duchessofburgundy35765 ай бұрын
I would distill this down to three things that are essential: 1) Don't fight Fallen Empires before the very late game. This means no declaring war, no colonizing the Holy Worlds of Holy Guardians, and no claiming systems adjacent to Militant Isolationists. If an ally drags you into war with one then keep your fleet as far away from the FE's as possible and just let them occupy you. 2) Don't overbuild districts. Not only does this cost you minerals and upkeep, but it also slows pop growth for biological empires as it reduces planetary capacity. Keep maybe 4-5 open jobs at most (or none if you hate your pops) and don't build further. 3) Don't exceed you _starbase_ capacity. Going over naval capacity is fine since you only pay a % more based on how much you are over, but for every additional Starport or higher above your cap you're paying 25% more for _all_ starbases (including outposts).
@TheIT221Ай бұрын
I clicked on the video as a joke since I've been a longterm player, but I never knew that building districts actually damage biological pop growth, very helpful
@duchessofburgundy3576Ай бұрын
@@TheIT221 Specifically it damages pop growth when the amount of housing provided by the district is less than the planetary capacity value of open district slots (which is +4 for most habitable worlds and +3 for habitats). City districts actually improve pop growth (except while they're under construction). Habitats almost never take a penalty, and Ecumenopolis/Ring Worlds only ever gain once districts are built.
