I don't sympathize with Ezma that much even as an adult. I do realize that there are a lot of thankless jobs out there, and Kuzko could have been a nicer person, but at the same time Ezma was trying to do his job instead of hers. She wanted power that didn't belong to her and didn't care who she had to hurt or kill in order to get it.

Well I always thought that Maleficent was not wrong, she just overreacted in the animated version. And sher Khan was also not that evil, he was following his instinct and natural desire. The worst is Frollo. It is very horrible when the giver of Justice and the leader of a place is actually the biggest enemy

I feel like the full terror that is Lady Tremaine should be in here. A lot of kids don't realize that how she treats Cinderella actually happens in the real world. There is a book in the villain series about Lady Tremaine's backstory. I won't say what happened for those who haven't read it yet, but I will say that because of it, I'll never watch the animated Cinderella ever again. To quell your curiosity, let's just say the story revealed to me what the introduction meant by "He felt she still needed a mother's care, and so he married again".

That's what makes her and people like Gaston and Frollo so scary to us. They actually exist, commonly. The Wicked Stepmother, the Misogynist and the Zealot. Villains like Scar, Ursula and Jafar not so much, mostly because ones a lion and the other two use magic. It's not realistic.

@@speedracer2008 Oh absolutely, by no means am I suggesting his actions were justified. Just that Gaston wasn't wrong in determining that Belle did in fact have feelings for The Beast, it didn't come from warped logic or anything. . Thinking about it now, a logical response to realizing this would be to see Belle as a bit of a weirdo. She has feelings for a non human, from his perspective not having seen her bond with The Beast, that would be a bit strange. So maybe there is something to be said that he was being a sicko by reacting with jealousy to this creature rather than being confused by Belle. . As for what he would have done if a human won Belle's affections, I think he would have done the same but probably bided his time more. With The Beast it would be easy to get the townsfolk on his side, while for a human he would need to kill him either in a secret way or by turning everyone against him so they would know but not care.

@@theyoshifankidhonestly I think because Gaston didn’t know the beast was actually a human prince is why he went so crazy is cause he ego couldn’t stand that what he considered a disgusting monster is what won Belles affections over him. The fact villains like them are more likely to appear in real life is what makes it scary especially if you are a guy who has been in male only spaces and heard them talking about women and you have a sister or daughter and now know that guys like them are real and could be targeting your sister or daughter one day. I have definitely felt the gut wrenching chill as my school bullies discuss girls in the PE locker rooms knowing my sister goes to the same high school and had made absolutely sure all the girls knew what they said unfortunately I was an unpopular geek and many of my warnings were taken as jealousy or some kind of revenge on girls who called me names, when dispite them picking on me I didn't want any of the girls to suffer what those guys had in store for them but I couldn't make them listen sadly.

@@pdruiz2005 I am unsure about how gypsies were treated in France (Very badly no doubt.) but the only other example I can think of is Spain and their reason for disliking gypsies is rather dry: "The Roma who insisted on maintaining a separate existence and nomadism would be incarcerated, expelled, or even sentenced to death. Although the legislation mentioned the Roma’s distinct customs, dress, and language, the most essential point of contention was domicile-establishment. According to contemporary visions, what made the Roma “dangerous” and transformed them into a group perceived as external to the Spanish commonwealth was their lack of permanent residence in recognized communities....The Roma were aware of these connections. Many argued that local citizenship was a means to acquire the “constitutions, exemptions and privileges” of natives, while others rejected their identification as Gypsies protesting that they were not foreigners. Outside observers tended to agree. The French consul in Cádiz, for example, explained that the Roma could be considered natives, but that they were usually not included in this category as long as they remained vagabonds....At stake was not so much where they lived, not even how they lived (though both things could be useful indicators), but under which legal and political conditions....Like the church (which was defined not as a building or an organization but as the community of believers), proper polities were made of the sum total of relations between authorities and members and between members among themselves; they did not include houses, or streets. They featured an adequate legal regime, a local fuero."-"Indigenous Reducciones and Spanish Resettlement: Placing Colonial and European History in Dialogue" (2018) By Tamar Herzog. No, unfortunately People are trying too hard to find redeeming qualities in Gaston's pursuit of Belle. The town labeled Belle as the most beautiful girl in town. Gaston deems this title is worthy for someone as "Great" as him "Because he deserves the best". You are right in your opinion for who you think is beautiful but if the Town says otherwise, Gaston wouldn't look twice at them. I bet if Belle was placed in a larger town or city of that era, she'd just be an ordinary but funny girl, thus Gaston would leave her alone. No, he does not like her for her love of books. After the Belle song, Gaston insulted her love of books. He said "It's not right for a woman to read, soon she starts getting ideas, thinking." Which adds to the idea of what Belle is to him: A trophy. Yes, he is attracted to her lack of interest but not in the way that is charming. He is a hunter, she is the prey. Her lack of interest and avoidance of him are seen as a challenge. He gets frustrated when she is not falling over him as fast as the rest of the town. To the point of trying to make her marry him by force twice (Holding a wedding outside her home without even getting her opinion, threatening to lock her father in an asylum if she doesn't). So no, Gaston isn't pursuing her because he wants to be better, he is pursuing her because it will boost his ever growing status and ego. Yes, the Beast has his issues but people are easily or willfully ignoring the walking, giant red flag that is Gaston.

@@spongebobcoolduke1537 I haven't watch most Disney movies in at least 10 years, or ever. However, I feel like some villains are pretty well explained in their villainy, not justified, but explained. Frollo actively thinks he is doing good and sees Esmeralda as a witch that cursed him into feeling lust Scar thinks he can be a better ruler then Mufasa Gaston has just too much influence, and he is jealous of the beast, making a recipe for disaster. (his mindset seems to be shared amongst the entire town) Abuela lost sight on her own family to focus on the community and perfection Shere Khan is scared of what humans can do, therefore hunting the children to prevent them from growing up etc.

Kids aren't going to pick up on it anyway kids don't have that level of social skill comprehension regardless of how high their IQ is. Take me for an example my mom said when I was younger I literally potty trained myself I decided one day I wasn't going to wear diapers anymore, I had one accident and from that day on I was using the toilet without her help. But even I didn't pick up on this kind of stuff in movies because IQ and social skill comprehension are two totally different things altogether. One deals with how smart you actually are and one deals with how you perceive other people in a socially conditioned way in a socially conditioned society after you are properly socially conditioned by that society. Which doesn't typically happen until you're a teenager and will know all of this thanks to your friends in high school anyway.

That's because we've been socially conditioned to believe love 'can't' be immediate. Which is a relatively new development in less than 50 years of history, which isn't really long enough to test anything's sociological impact properly. And actually, attraction develops within four minutes. The only reason you need to take longer is to check the other person's MORALS, as Anna finds out, not because 'falling in love' is actually a long process, scientifically speaking.

If Edgar would have really have been smart (at least not taking the expression "cats having nine lives" literally, cats typically lives about 15 years and only have one life like all beings here on Earth, it's unknown if they get reborn as another person since it's impossible to prove or disprove it) he'd wouldn't gone through the ordeal of getting rid of the cats and would have satisfied with being the caretaker for Duchess and her kittens until they die of old age and then be happy living as a rich man. It's a combination of naivity and greed that really makes him a bad guy with some bumbling on the side, as a villian he's not the most fierced or hated (I mean he didn't attempt to get the cats killed, though it could be that he's afraid of getting caught with red-handed, both literally and figurativly, with Thomas O'Maley and Scat Cat's gang it'd been another thing) but more of a comedic villian.

What Belle and Esmeralda have in common, besides their quick wits and compassionate natures, is that they're symbolic of something an oppressive society wants to stamp out... 1] In the former's case, Gaston says this outright in their first interaction: "It's not right, for a woman to read. Soon, she starts getting ideas and thinking." Also, the townspeople take his words as gospel, because of the heavy implication that he's part of the wealthy class. As another iconic Disney villain would remind us the following year, "Whoever has the gold makes the rules." 2] It's much wider-reaching for Esmeralda. Frollo believed that, if he could make her capitulate to what he believed were the highest standards for society, her people would follow suit and figuratively bend the knee to him. That's what burning her at the stake in the town square was all about. He could've done it privately, within the walls of the Palace of Justice, but he wanted the rest of her culture to lose hope, upon seeing her like that. It's a theme we see in several other literary and cinematic hero{in}es and villains, like Voldemort and Harry Potter, or Katniss Everdeen and President Snow. Frollo also embodies a dark trait that both men and women can have. It's the idea that whatever you're feeling, and how you might hurt someone because of that feeling, isn't the real problem, but being called out for it IS. Internally, the antagonist of a particular situation is screaming at the protagonist, "How DARE you make me feel guilty?! How DARE you make me uncomfortable?! It's YOUR fault! You're evil!" especially the romance of Maui and Queen Moana Waialiki, the romance of Hiccup Haddock and Princess Mérida, the romance of Jack Frost and Princess Elsa, the romance of Prince Lancelot and Princess Tiffany and the romance of King Artie and Princess Guinevere, because I think in the movie of Shrek 5, Maui will be Queen Moana Waialiki's love interest, boyfriend and fiancé, while Hiccup Haddock will be Princess Mérida's love interest and boyfriend, Princess Tiffany will be Prince Lancelot's love interest, girlfriend and fiancée and Princess Guinevere will be King Artie's love interest, girlfriend and fiancée, because Queen Moana Waialiki is going to fall in love with Maui, Princess Mérida is going to fall in love Hiccup Haddock, Princess Tiffany is going to fall in love with Prince Lancelot and Princess Guinevere is going to fall in love with King Artie, but they don't know how to tell them their feelings towards them and neither how to win their hearts, because every time Queen Moana Waialiki gets too close to Maui when it comes to true love, she gets very nervous with him, while which in the case of Princess Mérida is also the same, because whenever Princess Mérida gets too close to Hiccup Haddock when it comes to true love, she also gets very nervous with him, in the case of Princess Tiffany it is also the same, because whenever Princess Tiffany gets too close to Prince Lancelot when it comes to true love, she also gets very nervous around him, and in the case of Princess Guinevere too, because every time Princess Guinevere gets too close to King Artie when it comes Princess Mirabel Madrigal, Goldilocks, Namaari and Anastasia Tremaine, because now they will be the only Official Disney Princesses who do not need to have love interests and who can remain single forever, and I also say the same for Melody, the daughter of Prince Eric and Princess Ariel, because like her adoptive aunts Princess Raya, Princess Mirabel Madrigal, Goldilocks, Namaari and Anastasia Tremaine, she doesn't need a love interest either, but in the movie of Shrek 5, I also want to see the rivalry between King Artie and Queen Anna because they both want to compete in a challenge to see To me, Gaston, Frollo and Ursula are the most annoying villains as they have the most apologists. . Gaston did not believe The Beast to be dangerous, as Belle (the very person who was held captive) had assured him he was not. . Frollo knew his actions were evil, he is simply attempting to convince himself and others that they aren't. . Merfolk signing contracts with Ursula doesn't give her the moral right to turn them into polyps and hold them prisoner for the rest of their lives.

Frollo absolutely believed his actions to be righteous. He was only prevented from killing Quasimodo as a baby because of the Arch-Deacon's interference and he felt the judging eyes from the statues on Notre Dame itself. But he didn't repent or even see anything wrong with how he conducted himself. If anything, Notre Dame made him second-guess things just once but it didn't stop him from carrying on like normal. And once Esmerelda came into the picture, not only was he a hyprocritcal racist but he was also deep in denial that he wasn't above base human desires. He's probably the best cautionary tale to religious folks of how NOT to represent their chosen religion because he pretty much took the Bible's message and stomped on it. Gaston...yeah, no. You could make the argument that he didn't start spouting the Beast as dangerous until Belle called him out for being a monster himself but I'm under no illusion that Gaston didn't think the Beast wasn't dangerous after getting a look at him through the mirror. He was going after him regardless because, hey, what a trophy Beast would make. He needed a mob so he whipped up the villagers into a frenzy (wouldn't be surprised if he intended them to be meatshields if the Beast proved violent).

@@25Erix Within Hellfire itself, Frollo keeps insisting his lust isn't his fault only for an audience of people to respond "Mea Culpa", which is Latin for "through my fault". This is Frollo arguing with himself, he knows it is his fault but he doesn't want to admit it. Also he sounds very nervous and pleading when saying it isn't his fault, if he truly believed it wasn't he would speak with much more confidence and assertion. . And the fact that fear of God stops him killing Quasimodo shows how he never really believed Quasi was a demon. If he did, why would *fear of God* stop him killing him? Are you suggesting that Frollo thought God wanted a *demon* alive? That scene is Frollo trying to kill Quasimodo out of pure bigotry and hate for the way he looks. Then trying to excuse himself by pretending Quasimodo is a demon, only for the Archdeacon to force him to stop with his dishonesty *"you can lie to yourself and your minions, you can claim that you haven't a qualm, but you never can run from nor hide what you've done from the eyes, the eyes of Notre Dame!"* . And that opening scene itself serves to be the overall capture of Frollo's character. He acts out of bigotry and hate, finds ways to tell himself he is doing nothing wrong and that he is the good guy, but underneath it all he knows he's just lying to himself like the Archdeacon said. * As for Gaston, again, Belle herself tells him that The Beast isn't dangerous. Belle is the one who has met The Beast, not him, he has no reason to doubt her. . I understand if you like these characters, that's absolutely fine, but it's also important to not defend villains or make them out to be morally grey anti heroes when they are really just that - villains. Neither Frollo and Gaston are sympathetic and both are pure evil characters with absolutely no redeeming qualities, since it's Disney and so the villains are always pretty simplistic.

I've never seen anyone defending Frollo, we all agree he is a hideous, irredeemable monster. The fact that he thinks himself as the good guy and that he even feels guilt for his lustful thoughts doesn't make him a morally grey character nor an anti hero, just a brilliant and complex villain
@theyoshifankid
@theyoshifankid 10 ай бұрын
@@paolamaria1992 He knows he is in the wrong. He simply tells himself he isn't. The Archdeacon demonstrates that within The Bells of Notre Dame, when he tells Frollo that God is watching him, suddenly he doesn't feel like killing Quasimodo. If he honestly thought Quasimodo was a demon as he had claimed, why would he fear God would punish him for killing him? . Plus in Hellfire, the audience of red cloaked people yell "Mea Culpa" at him multiple times, which is Latin for "through my guilt", a confession of wrongdoing. . The idea that Frollo thinks his actions are good is to try and make him out to be more morally complex than he is. On a psychological basis he is complex, on a moral one he is simply a pure evil character with no redeeming qualities and no decency whatsoever, as much as his fans want to see some in him. . And his guilt for lasting after Esmeralda is not a moral guilt of feeling ashamed that he could have such dark feelings, it's because he is planning on forcing her to either be his or be burnt to death and doesn't want to be punished by God for that. It's all about himself, he is all he cares about.

Not defending anyone and Gaston and Frollo are definitely bad and truly scary because they could be real people, but as far as Ursula goes, I would never say she isn’t the villain, but she doesn’t force anyone to sign her contracts. Is she manipulative? YES, but she tells people what happens if they don’t hold up their end of the deal. I see her more as someone who gets you to put your house up for collateral so you can keep gambling. Is it shady? Oh yeah, but you don’t have to do it. It’s when she tries to stop Ariel from getting Eric to kiss her in time that you see how truly evil she can be.

As an adult who has experienced deep grief, I don't really sympathize with Callaghan. His desire to have revenge towards Krei is understandable but him not even attempting to save Tadashi from the fire or his willingness to murder his students in cold blood made no sense even if he was grieving. His transformation from a soft spoken polite professor who seemed genuinely interested in his students to a complete psychopath without any regard to anyone around him was way too radical to make sense. Unless he was only pretending in the beginning and was just hiding his true murderous self? But then why bother trying to give him a backstory with his daughter? His behavior makes no sense. It seems the writers were so focused on the supposed "surprise twist villain" aspect of him they forgot to make the progression in his behavior consistent. Shame since otherwise this movie is great. This is partially why I prefer unapologetically evil villains like Ursula or Maleficent to twist villains

In regards to the honorable mention in Aristocrats: Edgar's anger is understandable, but he was still an absolute idiot. He was her butler, her employee. The fact that he was being given anything in the event of her death was more than could have been expected by his obvious surprise. He was basically asked to continue working for her after her passing to take care of the cats, at which point, he got everything. And while taking care of the cats, he would have had access to the estate to care for them, he just couldn't do whatever he wanted with the cash until they died. And this is AFTER Madame Adelaide died, which unless he was planning on murdering her, wasn't going to happen very soon. Perhaps instead, the true realization as an adult would be the idea that once the cats were gone, he was working out a way to get rid of her, too. That, and the warnings of what people will do out of greed, solid evidence to the wonder of a basic education, and lesson not to jump to conclusions.

For neyw it's always Scar. Nothing trumps getting taken out by your own brother! Even as a kid, I knew Gaston was audacious. He showed up to her house dressed in a wedding outfit like Belle was going to marry him THAT DAY!! When she clearly didn't like him! I always found that weird as a child The hunchback, you're not going to pick up on those vibes as a child. Frollo was yearning for Esmeralda. His song "Hell's fire" is considered the most adult song in Disney anyway. In that song he clearly said, "this burning desire".

How do you know Hook didn't deserve to get his hand cut off and thrown to Tick-Tock the Croc? While we don't know any details what he done in the past but let's assume he's the typical pirate coming to Neverland to plunder for treasure and loot, assaulting the inhabitants of the island, probably capturing maidens to used as slave girls on his ship (though we don't see any we can assumed that if they didn't die in the process, Peter Pan most likey have rescued them and took them back home). After all, that's what he sort of did Tigerlily. He almost let her drown if she refused to tell him where Pan's hideout was and that says a lot of his cruel side. It would be naive to think that he was innocent and that Pan is the actual villian in the story, cuz that's not how it works. Captain Hook is a villian for a reason even if he has a personal vendetta against the hero.

And while Peter is a more authoritative leader in the book, and rather self-absorbed (like the original Mary Poppins), he's certainly not evil. He takes good care of his 'family' and it's made clear he fights fair while Hook does not. So if he lost his hand in fair fight to Peter, I don't get the condemnation. Yeah no, there are no redeeming qualities to justify most of these villains' actions, even for Shere Kahn. Fear is literally the cause of most wars, so Shere Kahn using the excuse of fear for wanting to murder Mowgli, just shows how much he's like so many real life warmongers who use fear as a weapon. Now as for Maleficent? She's not the "actual" villain, if you watch the live-action movies. I so prefer the backstory they gave her in the live action. She's not upset about not being "invited to a party", she's flat out furious about the new "king" having rose to power by maiming her body, and then throwing a party to boast about the fruit of his betrayal to her. THAT is a legit reason to go on the offensive. And then in the second movie, her daughter's future M-I-L tries to assassinate all fae, and tries to lay the blame for going to war on Maleficent... I was practically cheering when the M-I-L got her comeuppance!
