Reactions as a native who absolutely loves my sweet home. 1: River walk is lovely! Popular place for folks that work downtown to eat too. Beautiful when the weather is nice, but be careful about the forecast. 2: Beautiful space to walk around. Again, a space that is enjoyed by both tourists and locals. I remember classmates and I making fun of the bean when it was announced (we were about 10y old), but we were so wrong. There’s no appreciating it till you see it. The fountains are also amazing and beloved by both locals and tourists. It’s not uncommon for local business folk to spend a bit of their lunch hour wading in the fountain. 3: My top 2 museums are probably the Art Institute and the Field Museum. MSI, Shedd, & Adler Planetarium are also great, but they are either much more crowded far from downtown. 4: Food - you can find almost anything here. For ethnic cuisine you’ll likely get higher quality at better prices if you head outside of downtown. My favorite Chicago hot dog is from Home Depot. Lou’s is probably my favorite deep dish, but there’s other I like. 5: The architecture foundation river boat tour is fantastic. Kayaking is certainly not a bad option either. 6: Navy Pier isn’t my thing, but glad you had fun.

I miss my hometown. I had my prom at Navy Pier way before it was redesigned as an entertainment area. Glad to see they are allowing kayaking on the Chicago River. It wasn't safe for that kind of recreation when I was growing up. It was still too polluted.

I personally like Giordano's deep dish pizza, however locals eat thin crust pizza and a great place to go for tavern pizza is Vito's and Nick's.

Thin crush pizzas are the best imo. In Europe, middle & low-income families prefer deep dish & spaghetti because those foods help them feel full longer.

yes, there is so MUCH more to Chicago than just the downtown area. My favorite part are the beaches and the Lincoln Park Zoo.

The three best museum cities in the US are Washington D.C., New York, and Chicago. Chicago's museums are absolutely some of the best in the entire world.

New York really only has the metropolitan museum, it cannot compete with the likes of Chicago, and DC when it comes to sheer number of large-scale museums

It also has the National Museum of the American Indian, which is a branch of the Smithsonian. You could also include a number of locations like the 9/11 museum and Ellis Island, even though their scope is limited to the location they reside at.

We just walked everywhere. It helped staying at a hotel in a central location. We stayed at citizen M which was close to both the Riverwalk and millennium park. We still ended up waking roughly 10 miles a day though, but using rideshares could definitely help. Hope you have a great time!

honestly I'm not sure I can best answer this. we were only here a few days in early summer, so I'm not sure how it is the rest of the year. I know the winters get very cold though so unless you want to deal with snow you may want to avoid the colder months
