The Audubon Zoo and the Aquarium are two amazing venues to visit. Years ago prior to Katrina there used to be a “Zoo Cruise” where you could purchase a ticket for the aquarium and zoo then ride the river between the two. Both places are excellent to visit.

New Orleanian here. The Roosevelt during Christmas will blow your mind with how it's decorated with lights. Mother's is an overrated tourist trap. The best po-boys in town are at Parkway Bakery and Tavern. Frenchman St > Bourbon St by miles. Some other notable attractions include City Park (it's bigger than central park and has NOMA, the NO Museum of Art), Audubon Park/Zoo (it's a world class zoo), the Aquarium, strolling down Magazine St in Uptown (the shops/restaurants are great), riding the streetcar down St. Charles (if you call it a trolley, we locals will roll our eyes at you, lol), the Children's Museum if you have kids, and the list goes on. Another great time to come to town is during French Quarter Fest which is a few weeks before Jazzfest, and the best part about it is that it's 100% free. Also, we do Halloween really big here.

Such a great video. Thanks for all the tips. I would add that visiting plantations can be very heavy and unsettling for some. Those plantations are a reminder of a dark and sometimes overlooked part of US history. I was surprised how emotional I got when that realization hit. Just another perspective for someone who considered them not very interesting.

Wow, I have never heard about the graves! It is funny to hear how you tell it but EWWW, I am with you, lol. Ghosts, Vampires, Graves 😵💫...... I think that would actually be fun, lololol. The swamp tour is cool too. Our land, where our cabin is actually has a swamp at the bottom of it. I love it because there are alligators, wild hogs, beaver, snakes, and other cool creatures. I haven't been to New Orleans but after watching your video I think it would be a fun place to check out. That Oak Alley Plantation walkway was AWESOME! So beautiful. How did you hold that snake??? It looked so heavy, lol. God bless your Grandfather for his service in the Marines! "I'm in a Parade!" lol, you are so adorable :) I loved this video. I'm visiting from UK as a solo traveller in my late 60s next year (end of April). Is there anything I need to be aware of please? Looks like you had a lot of fun!😊
@sierralovesdogs3 ай бұрын
Good for you! I haven't heard of any real dangers in New Orleans for travellers. For the most part people are boisterous and the music, food and drink are flowing. You should be fine on any tour you book or museum you go to and the people who sell them on the streets are legitimate if you don't book in advance. BUT... to be honest, I'm not sure I would head down Bourbon Street by myself in the late hours. People do drink a lot and I've seen a few fights break out. As you would imagine, it's busier and more crazy on the weekends and as the evening gets later. If you went for dinner in the French Quarter and then left you should be fine but personally I wouldn't stick around on my own. The other thing (and you're from the UK so you probably have more sense about this!) is that people spill a lot and the streets aren't the best so bring comfortable walking shoes that you can either clean or don't care if they get dirty! Have so much fun!!! 🤗

Retired. Live about an hours drive out of the city. Once was a wonderful place to be. As Late as 2019 I spent much of the summer there in the warehouse district great time. Times have changed. Don’t take a car into the city unless it’s an old picture of junk. Don’t bring anything with you that you’re not willing to lose. Example. The very popular walking tours that were terribly terribly interesting now use an advance guard that stays a block or two ahead of them for security reasons.
