Being born and raised here and still living here the best food honestly is you becoming friends with someone who’s family is from here and going to they house or to a family event. You’ll get better than anything you can get in a restaurant here.

Good Video. I am a HUGE sushi lover. One of my favorite sushi restaurants in NO is Tsunami. Hands down, some of the best sushi in NO. For po boys I do like Parkway, but i also like Johnny's in The Quarter. There are several great po boys around. I like Erin Rose. Not necessarily for the Irish Coffee, but for their free pour drinks. I dislike the guns. New Orleans Cookery for Happy Hour is great for oysters, but there are some of the hotels/resorts that have better pricing. I recommend visitors to get out of The Quarter and go to Magazine Street for some terrific eateries. I am a big foodie, so I LOVE going to NO.

I’m a New Orleans native. While I live upriver a bit now, I’m there all the time. A few comments: 1. A native can eat a bignet, slathered in powered sugar - the only way to eat them - while wearing a dark blue suit in the middle of the summer and not show any evidence of powdered sugar. And really? No one here drinks hot coffee through a straw with their bignets. 2. I am glad to see you stuck to the trendy, touristy restaurants, or the old ones that have been overrun by tourists. We tend to avoid those (OK, Central Grocery excepted). Love Parkway, but there is a local haunt nearby (and closer to the flying horses for my kids) that is just as good and no tourists. As for where we locals eat… we ain’t tellin, hawt. 3. Rule of thumb for real New Orleans food: If the place hasn’t been there for 50 years, and looks it, don’t go.

Yeah... Tip for anyone coming to New Orleans for beignets... 3 is definitely NOT enough for a normal person. I don't know what this dude's bird stomach is doing, but if you have an appetite, you can easily eat two orders (6 beignets). Also, Mikimoto SUCKS. You should definitely eat at Shogun or Rock & Sake or Tsunami or Daiwa or any Little Tokyo Location instead. Also, there are extremely good omakase locations in the city now as well.
