He still remains my favorite Siege player ever... I really wish he could've stayed dominant for a longer period of time. The disappointment for me lies in the fact that the devs made this absurd commitment to the goal of eventually having 100 operators on a attack and defence when they finally complete the game. This goal I believe ruined the game, because it caused an incessantly rapid change in the meta each season, and obviously the devs were just going to run out of good ideas for new operators - this happened, and now the meta just constantly changes from excessive and tedious use of utility, repetitions of operators who basically serve the exact same function, and a never ending balancing act which the devs will never be able to achieve, because it's impossible to balance that many operators in a game like Siege. So the gameplay and meta kept dramatically changing for no good reason (like if it's not broken, don't fix it)... at one point I remember it just incentivised the pro scene to literally just play a run and gun style and the teams stacked full of fraggers were always the winners. The game just kept changing from COD style run and gun, to a boring tedious and annoying 'eliminate all the utility' style of play. Once they jumped the shark with operators (imo, this happened once Lion and Ying were added to the game), it inevitably lead to Pengu's downfall because he was so done with the stupid new meta... and he couldn't keep up with the constant change. To me, peak Siege was when Penta played against EG at the invitationals... by far the most entertaining Esports final I've ever seen. It was played with highly tactical style, team based gameplay, and the operators were balanced enough for us to see good fair and close matches. If the devs had dedicated their resources to making more maps and guns instead of operators in the game (I remember when we'd get new seasons with no new map or no new guns because the devs had their hands full trying to design new operators... which always sucked. During this time, I always remember the common complaint from the community was about the lack of variety in maps, lack of new guns, and too much stupid utility to deal with... we wanted more maps and guns. Not new operators), I think it would have kept the game fresh enough to maintain its popularity, while also allowing the really good players to stay relevant for longer... I'll also add that the wickedly sad loss of Kix contributed to the downfall of the OG community and game in general (R.I.P. Kix, we'll never stop missing you)... I dunno, it's just kinda sad that the game has changed so rapidly the OG community has nothing in common with the new community and they're basically ghosts in the scene now... I never thought I'd see the day where someone like Macie Jay has zero ties to the community.
