I have been studying Titanic for many years already. I've known it very well. While watching this video, I felt a little unsure whether or not their facts are correct. I have done my research and I would like to disprove facts number 9 and 10. About number 9, the band DID in fact play until the last moment, or at least until THEIR last moment. Titanic did not go to an angle of 45 degrees or more. It only rose for only a lower degree - lower than 30 actually. About number 10, many TV shows and films approve that J. Bruce Ismay urged Captain Smith to go faster and that Captain Smith had the last four boilers lit. If someone would like to disprove my arguments, please argue with sense and with facts. The arguments above are only from what I know at the moment. I also have a question about number 3. Isn't the hull number different from the ship number that was assigned by Harland & Wolff which is 401? By the way, great video! It could actually present interesting facts for young Titanic enthusiasts to learn about the ship.

+David Frigault The reason for the Lusitania and Mauretania could pull off the record speeds they did was because they both had four propellers powered by 76,000 hp turbine engines. Titanic, on the other hand, had three propellers powered by two reciprocating engines and one low-pressure turbine engine for a combined power of 46,000 hp. Simply speaking, there was no way at all that Titanic could ever have beaten any transatlantic speed record, ever. And most people don't realize that achieving Titanic's top speed of 23.5 knots meant redlining the engines and consequently risking damaging them, which in turn would mean an expensive overhaul, and lost revenue. There was nothing to be gained by it.

The last four boilers were lit when the ship started to sink, because the forward boiler rooms were flooded. It's a myth that Ismay urged captain Smith to speed up, he didn't need to do it. Captain Smith himself was prone to speeding, but anyway he was following the common practice of the time, to keep the speed in a clear weather.

We have no evidence that those boiler rooms were lit. Ismay never urged Captain Smith to do anything, he was making a passing comment about the excellent time Titanic was making, overheard by Elizabeth Lines, who testified as such and the media took the ball with that one, and ran. Back to the boiler rooms, everyone who operated those boiler rooms died, and not one account from any surviving officer said the boiler room was lit. It was lit in the sinking not to move the ship, but to power it. Keep the lights on, and Marconi system running. The band played just abaft the First class entrance near the grand staircase just forward of the raised rood over the lounge. They played Nearer My God to Thee (Methodist Version) and once they finished that song, they realized they didn't have time to complete another one, and tried to survive. They were never seen again, but we know the music stopped before the water reached them from testimony. And yes Titanic's yard number (think of it as a serial number) was 401, Olympic's was 400, and Britannic's was 433.

10. Just because all the boilers weren’t lit doesn’t mean he didn’t urge Captain Smith to go faster. It could mean that Smith simply refused. 9. The band played until the very last moment before it was impossible for them to do any more NOT the very last moment before the ship went under. The cello player could have had his back against a wall as the ship tilted. I couldn’t be bothered negating any more of this crap...

About number 4: Smith complied with the standard practices at the time and took a more southern route when more messages came through. The messages that warned of the iceberg she hit was not marked as urgent by the liners that sent them, and therefore back logged by personal messages of passengers. This means that the messages never reached Smith at all. Many of Titanic's crew were just recently signed on men or transferred over from other White Star Liners, and had very little training. The combined lack of training for loading and lowering lifeboats, passenger reluctance to get into the boats, and the woman and children first rule, which some officers interpreted as women and children only, resulted in boats being lowered far below their maximum capacity. Other than that, everything else was fine.

theory says that the band played until they could play no longer, thus meaning that as the ship started to tilt they wouldve probs stopped playing.. just my idea. :)

...he knew he had to make a go of it because he was becoming progressively weaker. He also threw many deck chairs into the water before Titanic went down. He had a plan to survive and he did! It is fun to read the hearings and see how both the interviewers and Mr. Joughin handle the drinking issue. He essentially received a free pass, but he readily admitted he drank a wee bit. He also helped load passengers into lifeboats.

Sorry, but no one is making fun of anything. Sharing facts in a new and different way isn't making fun of something. It's taking a look at it differently. This isn't a documentary, as someone said. It's a 3 minute list. I think it's interesting. Nothing that I didn't know. But clearly, it's intended as a quick taste for people who don't have (or want) a deep knowledge of the disaster. Not everything about the Titanic can be presented in a somber and sentimental way with a soundtrack of Irish music. That's been done...to...death.

the Titanic was actually owned by an American firm, chaired by JP Morgan. It had been sold prior to the sinking. No one knew about the sale, however. The British inquiry discovered the truth when questioning Ismay on his return to England, and they were outraged. They and the British people thought the largest ship in the world belonged to a British company and they were upset to learn it was owned by an American company. The British then passed a law that said all such sales had to be approved by the British government in the future...

Even if you buy Lord's statement read into the record at the Senate Inquiry (which the Senate didn't even believe, according to the report made by Senator Smith), he was still only 19 1/2 miles away. The Californian was, by far, the closest ship. The Carpathia was 80 miles away and was the next closest ship. Even if this so-called mercenary ship existed (no one aboard the Californian reported 2 ships sighted), the crew still saw the rockets and didn't wake Evans to check on their safety.

I thought the Carparhia was 58 miles away, which is why they estimated 4 hours at 14 knots, but Captain Rostron was miraculously able to get it up to 17 knots, which is why it arrived in 3.5 hours???? I could be mistaken

Say what you will about Ismay, but he helped passengers board lifeboats until the end. Remember he was wearing pajamas. If he was such a brute, wouldn't he have returned to his cabin and dressed? Unlike other passengers, he knew the fate of Titanic. His greatest sin was lying at the hearings. However, he was probably trying to save the White Star line and protect his investment! But he knew a lot of things we shall never know. He was not a hero but he was not a brute either.

Didn't I hear that the Olympic, Titanic's sister ship was damaged in a accident and that thee owners wanted to gain money for her. So switched places with Titanic known full well they were going to scuttle her, caused the death of so many souls.
@thomasdaniels6824
@thomasdaniels6824 6 жыл бұрын
That theory has been vigorously debunked many times over. The Olympic was damaged in an accident with the HMS Hawke and repaired soon after. After the Olympic dropped a propeller and its incident with the hms hawke parts that were ordered for the titanic were used in order to keep the Olympic in service and profittable. Many of the titanics first class passengers had traveled aboard the Olympic and were present when it threw a blade, they wouldve have known as soon as they got on if the Titanic was actually the Olympic. Plus, the Olympic was already a year old. They werent exactly alike. Also, the Titanic was only insured for 5,000,000 and Worth almost double that. It would make zero sense to switch them or purposely sink it, as some nutjobs claim. What company in there right mind would risk the chance of purposely murdering people with the objective of losing millions of dollars on an underinsured ship. Almost all of the officers would have to be in on the plan of logistically finding the right iceburg to smash into at the right time and point of collision. Simple research has provided us with the undisputable info that Captain Smith was following the practices of the time by traveling at a considerable speed in ice fields UNTIL iceburgs were spotted. Had Frederick Fleet spotted the iceburg earlier and Murdoch sucessfully ported around it, its a mathematical certainity that Captain Smith would have been woken up as he requested and slowed the ship. Conspiracy theorist try to look for the most ridiculous "facts" to fit there rubbish and lies.. Like judge judy says " If it doesnt sound right, then its likely not true."

false on your part, the reason all the boilers weren't on was because one of the boilers was actually not functional. it would remain idle even at full speed.

OK....Not completely acurate..Bruce Ismey was not the owner of the White Star Line J.P. Morgan was...Ismey was an executive for the line...and the # 401 was NOT a hull #....it was a propeller blade #...one that had been swapped from Titanic to Olympic after she through one in her accident !

did the drunk guy survive?
@thomasdaniels6824
@thomasdaniels6824 6 жыл бұрын
Yep, chief baker Charles Joughin survived swimming around in the water for a very long time and was able to keep his hair from getting wet. In 1958's A night to remember, he was portrayed 100 percent historically correct. He spent the whole 2 hours and 40 minutes getting drunk as hell, staggering around on the deck throwing chairs in the water for people to use as flotation devices. I like to think that if i was reincarnated as a titanic survivor, i would be him. Hmmm, the sinks sinking and im likely going to die, well then hell yeah, im going down drunk off my ass
