Nice, solid advice man! After 25 years of training, i came to nearly identical conclusions. No huge tricks, just consistent, common sense progress in a form you can live with!

I have made great progress performing 13 sets a week for a muscle all the way down to 6! The common trend was pushing each set for progression each week!

That's the key yes. "What is the best volume or split to build muscle?" The one that allows for consistent long term progression and keeps you adhering to the plan. Doing a training plan that motivates you to hit the gym hard with intent and one that you can stick to from a time investment standpoint will simply outperform any 'optimal' plan on paper. Guilty of this mistake myself but I feel that many ppl force themselves into a training regimen that doesn't fit into their lifestyle, schedule, doing movements that bother their joints etc. Adherence and progression are really key. When the main principles are built in and respected, any program will work for you.

Aaaaaaaaamen!! I’ve been training seriously for over 10 years (natty). What Pete is saying is pure Gold. I get so fed up with guys / girls at work who can see that I train and then want to tell me how great their program is. “You need to do an upper / lower body training split”. Sorry but I’ve never got on with that. I always found I’ve grown from more intense 5 set workouts, 5 to 6 different movements, usually superset.

Hell yeah! I've been lifting for 5 years now, started out as a powerlifter and migrated to this style of training more these days. Everything that I have experienced or speculated in my mind was confirmed by this video. I really appreciate you giving this information out there and knowing I'm on the right path, although I truly felt this way via trial and error already and happen to be super honest with myself and the way things are about training. Really enjoyed this and I liked the way you worded things as well because we aren't just bodybuilders, trying to get lean, aesthetic, or powerlifters etc. We're definitely training to put on size to tackle both ends of the spectrum and move more weight/mass while also still looking good (and like we actually lift. Great example of the unsuspecting powerlifter pulling 500 lol)

Controversial take, train biceps on push day and triceps on pull day and ppl can be pretty great for arms especially if you put that isolation before the end of the session.
@user-us4mc7ej3c Жыл бұрын
you just described my split. It's perfect because your biceps exercises let the pecs recover in-session, the triceps exercises let the back recover in-session, and vice-versa
@claybowman1242 Жыл бұрын
@@user-us4mc7ej3c it’s also just easy to superset which is always great for saving time. Still not as good as an arm day cause there’s a little bit of overlapping fatigue but still much better at no cost than the traditional ppl. In my experience biceps training the day before never really holds back your back training.
@user-us4mc7ej3c Жыл бұрын
@@claybowman1242 yes I agree and I take most of my programming principles from Natural Hypertrophy who is a savvy superset enthusiast, so indeed my training is mainly composed of supersets. Seems like we have very similar philosophies when it comes to bodybuilding. Personnally I rarely put pecs and biceps or back and triceps in the same supersets, I rather superset all the 'main' movements with smaller muscles like neck, side and rear delts, calves, abs, etc..
@claybowman1242 Жыл бұрын
@@user-us4mc7ej3c ah yeah I really like nh’s methods too, he has a really interesting way of programming to make workouts feel good and fun while prioritizing progression. I also do all my smaller muscle group isolations on push days or arm days (I run a hybrid split) since my back days tend to take a bit longer but I do add calves in on back days too. I’m not a pure bodybuilder but i definitely care about looks just as much as strength and take inspiration from pure bodybuilders especially natties.

@operationpredator Жыл бұрын
If it works for you, great! Keep blasting it. I'm switching over to that style of training now myself but more for adherence and time restriction reasons. HIT can really be a viable tool in the box when you're in a stage of your lifting journey where you're either a bit burnt out from training and need a 'fresh turn' or you simple have a lot of stuff going on in your life. I believe in more conventional bodybuilding, IF your schedule/lifestyle ALLOWS for the necessary rest and recovery. HIT is perfect alternative for guys that still want to train and get results, but need to get in and out of the gym quick.
