My grandpa is from Empire Alabama born in 1930, he is 94, when it was still a popular coal mine town. His family owned a small coal mine and his father worked at the local one. I went when I was young and my grandpa took me through what the town used to be! It wasn’t always bad but my grandpa said he couldn’t wait to get the hell out of there and that was in 1940

Sheffield? Seriously, it isn’t that bad. Courtland is a lot worse. Sheffield just lost its tax base when a highway bypassed it. Sheffield isn’t in the same league as the rest of this list.

Sheffield has a gorgeous historic area, an active downtown, and the Muscle Shoals Studio where some of the greatest songs of the 60s/70s were recorded. Notice he didn't dwell too much there.

I lived there for 18 years after getting out of Army flight school. The mentality of the old money is to keep the state and everyone down to keep their control and power over the folks there. I can tell you stories all day long about the corruption and cover-up stories in Coffee County. Glad to be out of there.

I’m shocked how you make fun of the accents. I think the South is beautiful with kind people. Poverty has hit them relentlessly. Communities need organized groups to help clean the areas. When I lived in Alabama I loved the charm of being so close to historic days. I’m suggesting you do another video finding the good in these areas and listen to some of their stories. You could have been born in the places that you criticize so harshly.

I did my part to clean up when I moved here 2 years ago. I’m still actively cleaning & renovating. I way over paid for my place & I bought it from a local deputy. I hauled away 6 - 40 yard dumpsters of trash that had just been tossed out in the yard, 2 dumpsters from inside the house & that was before I began renovating. I do know plenty of good people here from every background & I see efforts to clean up, but there’s no shortage of trash. I’m really hopeful the real estate market is kind to me when I’m ready to make my next move. Idk if I’ll have to sell my current place to get more land or if I’ll be able to buy a neighbor’s property but I’m definitely accustomed to having more land & a smaller but nicer fully customized home.

I live in Elmore County, Alabama. You have grossly misrepresented our state. Of course we have problems, but it is reasonably safe here, and we are working on our problems. Titus, Elmore, Deatsville, Slapout, are all nice communities. I really do not believe the "Grandma" story. Marbury and Verbena and nice communities. There is not a town named "Verbana", do your research.

I drove thru Mentone one time it is pretty. Hectors kitchen is good food, we would drive ALL THE WAY from Montgomery just to get a taste of good latin food. Attalla is good people, I think they should have done that documentary elsewhere.
