You forgot Smothering Tithe. It suffers all the same issues as Rhystic, but rarely gets denied value because of the steep cost. When I can't remove Rhystic or Tithe, I quickly turn to player removal.
@AvidHerpetologist6 ай бұрын
I didnt forget it, it was my 11th choice 😭 i knew someone would mention it lol but i think because of the steeper cost associated with it and people being less wklling to pay as a result it IS more likely to draw removal. Its also not something you can ignore like Rhystic, like i can cut back my spells cast each turn but i cant just not draw a card when my turn starts 😅

How to deal with Non-basic Lands without land destruction: Play Blood Moon (or Magus of the Moon, aka Blood Moon on legs) - now all Non-basic Lands are Basic Mountains. (Bonus Points if you have or can give your creatures Mountainwalk - if everyone has Mountains, because everyone runs non-basic lands, then no one can block them!)

The biggest problem with removing a Gaea's Cradle ISN'T removing it.... it's making sure it STAYS removed. Green is VERY good at getting lands back from the grave. White is ALSO fairly good at this with Sun Titan and similar effects. 1 for 1 land removal works well for black, red, and blue but considerably less so for decks running green or white.

My favorite commander is a future sight effect. Galea Kindler of Hope has the better effect where you look at the top instead of reveal, and you can cast only equipment and auras. Top deck manipulation is key in that deck, and cards like the reality chip are awesome.
@AvidHerpetologist6 ай бұрын
I use Chip in my Kenessos sea monsters deck. I love that its a jellyfish lol
@monomanamaniac6 ай бұрын
@@AvidHerpetologist Galea can cast it off the top and cheat the equip cost. You can even use stuff like scroll rack to put equipment back on top of the library and then cast them and get to cheat the equip cost that way. You can even use stuff like Sylvan library and choose not to put equipment into your hand so they go back on top of the library. Then you get a cost reducer into play, then the sensei's divining top, and finally when the aetherflux reservoir hits the table everyone realizes it's been a combo deck the whole time (Galea gets massive very fast). The reality chip is making me want to take the sword of fire and ice out of the deck, it's that important.

@monomanamaniac one of my favorite things to do in EDH is what I call "card pack" effects. Effects that for instance check the top x cards and let you cheat things into play, A La cards like Mayael. But im a Temur player through-and-through so one of the decks ive had together a good long while is Ghidorah (illuna, but im also a Godzilla fan) with a ton of those effects. Things like See the Unwritten, Selvala's Stampede, the Temur Ultimatum, so on and so forth. Scroll Rack is perfect for those kinds decks 👍

Best answers to a Necropotence... Flash in a Karn's Sylex, Angel of Jubilation, or Yasharn.^^ Angel of Jubilation also prevents sacing creatures, while Yasharn stops players from sacing anything that isn't a land.

Not a bad listen. I think you dig a bit deeper into the reasons for leaving these alone. I like that. Of course, the 800lb gorilla in the room is the conspicuously poor amount of interaction - read 'removal' - that most casual decks begin with. After running too few lands, this is the second hardest lesson in casual Commander. I'm glad you chose this topic.
@AvidHerpetologist6 ай бұрын
Its def one ive discussed with playgroups a ton before. I strive to be the guy at the table who has responses no matter what im playing, its exhausting sitting in fresh casual pods and hearing people complain about pretty low-power stuff just because they don't want to be bothered to pack ways to out them 😅 but hey, sometimes theres just nothing to be done 🤷♂️
@MrCenturion136 ай бұрын
@AvidHerpetologist : the issue, from those I've talked to, is mainly a reluctance to dedicate slots in the deck to removal. They don't see them as contributing towards the deck's wincon. At all. But if you can get them over the pons asinorum of seeing lands that way, you can talk them into dedicating 8-10 slots to removal or other interaction.

I can tell you've put a lot of work into improving your editing skills, but I do think that some of the additional motion and sounds when text appears on-screen is a bit much visually, and ironically makes your video look cheap. It's all about finding the right balance, and how much motion is too much and too little for your use case.
@AvidHerpetologist6 ай бұрын
Thank you for the feedback! So the goal i set for myself with each video is to pick up something new, whether its an editing technique to make my life easier or something new i can add to spice the videos up. I was actually really hoping id get a comment on the sound effects because while editing in the back of my mind was exactly what you said, I wanted to liven the video up a bit but I wanted to make sure I didnt go overboard and make it feel like a High-school powerpoint presentation. I tried to dial the effects down to make sure they weren't too intrusive but if they still came off that way ill definately dial things back more in my next run 😊
@ToxicAtom6 ай бұрын
@@AvidHerpetologist In my opinion, the text scrolling into place like it was being typed was a perfect amount of motion, but the typing sound was just a little too much. All the header text swooping into place certainly has that high school powerpoint look to it, though. You talk about a game I like, and your delivery is fairly tight, so you certainly earned a sub from me on those grounds. Looking forward to see you improve.

i still don't understand why Rhystic Study isn't banned. It's the combination of the worst, most annoying things in the game and whats the worst it affects almost every interaction for the rest of the game.
