The episode when Amy and Howard bond during the treasure hunt, is one of my favorites. The pure joy derived from watching those two together is incredible. Next in line is Stewart and Raj. There was unmined gold there. The Stewart and Debbie connection was hilarious, especially when we never get to see her.

Sheldon planning an entire evening for Bernadette that would both make her feel better and be engaging for him is actually a really thoughtful thing to do and shows Sheldon at his best because it means that he was intentionally being kind and employing empathy and selflessness while still being Sheldon.

Sheldon and Howard had many gems. When Sheldon gets drunk and tells Howard he's going to be an amazing father, Sheldon admitting that he wanted to be an astronaut, Sheldon calling Howard, Astronaut Howard Walowitz at the end, and my personal favorite, Howard amping up Sheldon to talk about Raj's Mom 😂

Say what you want about Sheldon, he is annoying, but he can also be comforting. Biggest point, when Howard's mom died and Sheldon opened up about losing his dad, and how it will always haunt him, the same way Howard will always remember his mom with fondness. To me personally that stands out because that episode was filmed the same year that I lost my dad.

Another one for the list also happened at Shamy’s wedding. While checking on the delay, Leonard realizes that Sheldon and Amy had a breakthrough on super-asymmetry. Rather than yell at them to stop to get married, Leonard immediately jumps in to help by looking to see if anyone else had thought of the idea. Not only did it show Leonard truly understood his friends (it clearly wasn’t the first time), but it also was an important step to the Nobel Prize being awarded to the couple in the series finale.

The show was good when it was just about Penny and the four guys. But when they added Amy and Bernadette to the cast, it really opened up the show’s dynamics and made it better.

I think Penny really needed some girlfriends, it gave us a chance to see development from her without the men around, and both Amy and Bernadette really created spaces for Howard and Sheldon to grow exponentially. Even Raj was able to have his more feminine side explored in a kore serious manner because he had more girls to spend quality time with, which also helped his selective mutism. Amy and Bernadette were ingenius additions to the show. I think both this show and How I Met Your Mother were both direct upgrades of the 90s boom that was Friends.

Another good one is everyone comforting Howard after he finds out his mom has died. There’s Sheldon telling him that he’s not alone in his grief, Bernadette yelling at the airline security for losing her ashes in a later episode and then in the episode we find out we also have Leonard’s toast to her and how she was a second mother figure to the rest of them. Wish we got more of them all interacting with her.

Bernadette was adept at handling everyone. Penny got her job after she opined that she was afraid to make Bernadette angry and Bernadette’s boss opined he was afraid of her too. It’s kind of funny because her relationship with Sheldon was a bit softer than her relationship with the others. Perhaps as someone suggested above because she reminded him of some of the stronger minded matriarchs in his own southern family growing up, the soft exterior with a spine of steel. @@MrStinker4

Not underrated but my favorite was Penny giving Sheldon Leonard Nimoy's napkin. Made this old biker cry when he hugged her. Also I never thought about it till now, but maybe one reasons he was more accepting of Leonard becoming his roommate was because him and Spock had the same first name. After all he named his first kid Leonard.

I keep saying that Penny reminded Sheldon of Missy or a bit of his mom back home in Texas. You know two females that looked out for him as a kid. So Penny literally is like the sister/mother figure for him when he’s not at home. He’s very comfortable and it feels familiar to him when he’s around Penny. It’s definitely more of a sibling energy between the two of them, which is why I felt it super weird when people shipped them romantically. I’m like no Penny is too similar to Missy..it’s more sibling relationship. Yes, Amy is similar intellectual level as Sheldon.. but over time we came to know Amy and how she isn’t the same as Sheldon. She is open to change, likes to be affection (despite Sheldon putting up his walls..he eventually became more affectionate in their relationship in his own way), and she knows how to have fun haha. I loved that Amy found ways to help Sheldon open up and be that voice of reason at ti mes when he’s being well Sheldon.

Sheldon and Penny are one for the ages. One of my favorite episodes with him is the episode where she gives him a napkin with Leonard Nimoy’s DNA on it after he spent all day devising an algorithm to give her a gift that corresponds to the value of her gift.

I totally agree with #1, it's my favorite part of the entire series. One that was omitted was the couples holding hands as Howard is being lauched into space at the very end of season five: Bernadette takes Raj's hand, Penny takes Leonard's hand and then Sheldon takes Amy's hand.

Leonard’s mother is a bit of a bully and I suspect Bernadette reminded him of her. It’s interesting because Penny softens Leonard’s mom over the course of the show so it would have been interesting to see how that would impact Leonard over time.
