I think the asparagus fern (Asparagus plumosus) is one of the most underrated plants. It's got such a whimsical sense of scale! I don't really know how to describe it. Also, since they aren't true ferns, I've found them to be very easy and forgiving, while still giving a fern-y vibe. Edit: Aaaaah, you agree! lol posted before watching the whole video.

Herbs and edible stuff! Everyone's in a scramble for decorative plants, but I think it would be cooler if you're planting and self-sustaining as well. Basil, Mint, Keffir Lime, Peppers, Rosemary, Tomatoes...
@TheYoghurt424 жыл бұрын
A lot of houses just don't have enough natural light to sustain these types of plants. I grew a chili plant indoors but i needed to boost its light intake with a grow light. Eventually it just made more sense to grow it outside and save indoors for decorative plants which are better suited to it!
@angelitavinluan77454 жыл бұрын
Agree. I had to kick out my 2 basil plants to get some light, as well as potted lemon. They are all thriving outside in my shaded porch.

I have tried! My squash and zucchini became victims of squash vine borers, out of 8 tomato plants only 1 has grown 1 tomato, my cucumbers are flowering but so far no fruit, cilantro died, radishes sprouted and died, carrots same. On a happy note, my peppers are doing great!
@leonardo92594 жыл бұрын
Keeping crops it's veeeery much a big step (I would consider tomatoes crops) but yeah, mint, basil, chives, sometimes strawberries (seriously they are very compact) and even a single ginger in a shallow wide pot (they don't need direct sunlight) are a great way to find something more than aesthetic pleasure from your plants. I have mint, ginger and chives, the only really distinct is ginger since it take quite some months to harvest, but herbs can be easily used to cook and it helps them to keep growing

I watched an Australian gardener I follow talk about using native plants as house plants "as really there is not such thing as a house plant" - and she is right as they all came out of the ground from somewhere. I have been looking for a weeping specimen plant for my garden, and as house plants are getting expensive here I am giving a native tree a go as an indoor plant. It is an Agonis Lemon and Lime . The leaves are beautiful and I am going to give it lots of light, a native potting mix and I hope to get a number of years out of it trimming the roots and going easy with fertiliser. I am so excited, and my husband call this my plant therapy. Natives as indoor plants could be the secret to having unusual house plants and this plant was less than $15, so affordable too. Featured snippet from the web Agonis Lemon and Lime is a very elegant native tree with weeping fine golden lemon new foliage that turns into a darker lime colour. Small white flowers appear on the branches in summer. A fantastic specimen feature tree with beautiful flowing contrasting colour. A good native alternative to a Willow Tree.

First off, I have to tell you how much I LOVE your channel! You girl, are a walking plant book and I love how informational your vids are. I have recently become obsessed with plants and everything about them, so I guess I am sort of a first time "plant mom" and I have a few questions for you concerning the plants I own. A. In your opinion, should every potter I use have flow holes in the bottom? I know it's recommended but is it necessary? Because there are SO. MANY. cute potters that seem to have forgotten their holes. B. After buying a plant (never before- I buy when the inspiration hits LOL), I do some research on the lighting and watering is recommended. But if the plant is thriving with the light and watering method I am currently using, should I change that? C. Where I live, it's currently 25 degrees and and COLD, and the majority of my plants I have are in my windowsill- should I move them or will they be fine? D. and Lastly, some of the plants I have have developed some sort of mold like substance on the top soil. Have you ever dealt with this or know what I could be up against? I've did some googling, but nothing seems to specifically diagnose my problem. Thank you so much for your time and effort into these videos! P.S If anyone else has any advice, that would be so awesome!

Hands down my “ Milky Way” Cast iron plant. I ordered mine from a greenhouse in CA over the summer and man oh man she’s been thriving in my house ever since, and everything I read says that they’re slow growers but this one has put out two new leaves! Also it’s beautiful and doesn’t care really about anything, cold, warm, sunlight. Just loves life.

Kati Z I can never keep fittonias alive longer than a week after bringing them home. I care for them based on internet recommendations but still no luck. Do u have any tips?
@simply_pebs72964 жыл бұрын
Ashley Humbert I only water them, when the leaves aren‘t firm anymore. I... Kind of... pat them every (other) day. Leaves soft? They get a Drink. Also they sit about 2m away from my window

@@ashleyh5475 I have rescued three off clearance from Lowe's. Bring them home and bottom water and they perk back up within the hour. I cut off anything that is still hard or discolored. I keep them in ceramic or plastic because they don't like to dry and that helps. All of mine are in lower light. I water when I feel top and it is dry or I notice they aren't standing as tall as normal. I don't let them faint all the way. I just can't imagine the stress is good for them. Harley (name drop) keeps hers in a bowl and fills couple time a week and works for her. If you live somewhere dry you may want to add a little bit of humidity. I know allot of people say that. I am in TX and we always have at least 50% so I haven't had that issue. Hope something I said helps. I love fittonias and giggle when I find them being dying divas!

I love my Ruby Red fittonia. Since I got it from Lowe’s, it’s given me joy when I look at it. I water the plant thoroughly, then leave it alone until dry on top. So far, so good!

Dracena godseffiana. Such a unique and gorgeous variegation, go and google it, you have to see it. It has never given me any troubles. Out of the hundreds of plant videos I have watched, I've only ever seen it mentioned once.
