As a former employee, yes we are paid about 3.15 + tips (as a server). They take out $3 a week for meals (we pay for any major meats). Every employee is to work on a holiday. Usually, they schedule them an hour at a time so they can still spend time with their families. Please tip us. Our duties are long and difficult. We clean all tables, wash all dishes, clean the cheese egg pans (iron skillets), we prep pies and juices. refill ice, sweep and mop, as well as clean and check the bathrooms all while serving you. We are constantly berated by customers and sometimes only working with one or two servers at a time. It's hard work, but sometimes it can be fun.

As an ex employee of waffle house ( I worked there for four years ) I can 100% say this is all true. The marking plates. The employee mistreatment. And the standards placed on employees to be upstanding. Here's a crazy idea... How about you pay your servers more than minimum server pay (less than three dollars an hour) and maybe they won't be so freaking upset over doing a shit ton of side work at the end of the day. We were NEVER compensated for washing dishes or cleaning the restrooms and we were expected to wait on customers without scheduled breaks. The side work was absolutely tedious and taxing at the end of a long shift were they didn't want us sitting in the presence of customers. And on top of taking money out of our check every time we clocked in for our meal coverage, we were expected to pay close to full price for meats such as steak, chicken, and country ham. I had a manager tell me that it was too expensive for their food costs and that the money they took out of check was really only covering our drinks from the fountain drink machine! I was stolen from there (caught on camera) and the thief had NO REPERCUSSIONS WHATSOEVER! I was told that if I prebussed my tables and bussed them fast enough that I wouldn't have been stolen from. A slew of women, including me, were made to endure sexual harassment and miscoduct from men because they didn't want to fire "good employees" on "shotty proof". When they were clearly caught on camera and had a load of women telling them that they felt uncomfortable or harrassed. What other proof do you need?! And after years of taking this mistreatment, working double shifts, (sometimes triple shifts that came out to 24 hours straight!) Taking garbage attitudes from customers and managers alike, and putting my very best foot forward every single day, I ended up having to quit because they wouldn't work with me on my hours while I was going through a divorce and experiencing my first miscarriage! I hate waffle house with every thing in me and if anyone asks I will tell them what a backwards disturbing company waffle house truly is! I urge you not to seek employment there! It is not only a waste of your sanity, but they refuse to do their employees right and avoid lawsuits by making you sign your rights to pursue them in court away before you even step foot in their lobby.
@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr28232 жыл бұрын
I don't understand this. Get into a city college and you'll make more money. Get into trades. Nobody is going to leap in and hold your hand. Get help the guy who harasses me. I'd mace them. Get them on MY camera and sue for wrongful dismissal. You need skills, education and a good lawyer. Learn how to sit on the phone with labor rights organizations, facebook or whomever, and file a police report for every incident. When you have college and skills, you make money and can walk any time. Done it. Made no difference because I'm educated and skilled. They wouldn't dare get rid of me.

@@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823 Here you are babbling away at someone else telling them what to do. I know what YOU need to do...stick it up your a$$ and turn it sideways. Not everyone has the grades to get scholarships or grants. Many people have to atart earning at a young age to help their family. Many have parents/guardians who dont care about them. None of that makes it OK to take advantage of them. You're obviously the type of person who would disparage slaves because they didn't stand up for themselves and fight for freedom....even though it would've gotten their friends and family hurt. People like you always look down on people that had it a lot harder than you. The defect is in you not them.

I grew up in a very tiny town in Texas, and Waffle House was the only thing open after 10pm on any given night. I spent more time at the Waffle House in my high school and college years than I probably did my actual house. Pondering our futures while going through copious amounts of coffee, sharing waffles when we were broke, and having an entire staff know us all by first name (and knew to put on fresh pots of coffee cuz we'd go through it all!) was definitely our 'Waffle Family'. I've since moved to the west coast, and there is no WH or anything that comes close. WH will always have a special place in my heart, even if I can't always have some in my stomach.
@charlesbernius80652 жыл бұрын
I eat at WH quite often. The biggest problem I have is if the condiment packages are used to mark the plate for your order, many of them stay on the plate when served and don’t get used. The server puts their hands on them, the customer puts their hands on them, they get placed on the dirty tables and then back in their respective containers only to be placed on the next persons food and on and on. Nasty. I’ve actually seen employees digging them out of the trash and wiping them off to be used again. No condiments on anything I order for me!

If you laid all of the Smithfield Bacon that Waffle House® serves in a year, end-to-end, it would wrap all the way around the equator! That’s over 25,000 miles of a Bacon Belt!! If you could stack all of the Sausage Patties that Waffle House® serves in one day on top of each other, it would be nearly twice the size of the World’s Tallest Building, Burj Khalifa in Dubai or four times the size of the Empire State Building! Now that’s a tall order! If you poured all of the cups of Coffee that Waffle House® serves in one year, it would be enough to fill nearly 8 Olympic swimming pools!

As an employee of waffle house for 4 years I can tell you that part of your contract you sign requires you to work every holiday, unless you're sick, or you'll be written up. Sale associates are also required to keep the store clean at all times which included; doing all dishes, cleaning bathrooms, prep work, busing tables, and keeping floors swept and mopped. A food cost is deduct from your paycheck wether you eat or not. And you make less then minimum wage as your tips are considered part of your paycheck.
@lockedriv81063 жыл бұрын
as a fellow salesperson it’s not bad. The side work keeps the establishment running and give you something to do during dead hours. Working on holidays is not bad too because you get payed time and a half depending on the significance of the holiday so your making better money for your time there. The food credit system is kinda sucky but that’s because they want you to eat after a long day of standing and calling orders so it’s best to take those opportunities. Lastly tip based jobs aren’t bad. I make tipbased minimum wage which is about 9.32/hour plus tips. I go home with anywhere from 35-80$ cash at the end of the day and doing the math often means it was a 14-18/hr day.

As luck would have it, the drunks would be there trying to get straightened out and the hookers would be grabbing a bite on the way home. Well, the drunks would want to hit on the hookers or buy their meal and a fight would ensue. Always fun to watch! I saw a cook slam a drunk back in his seat and then drop the plates on the table from a foot high, then told them to enjoy their food and get the hell out. That was 12-15 years ago. I do miss the fun there.

I made about 300-400 a wk in tips at waffle house back in 93-97. I started in 10th grade. My check was like 60 bucks. But not bad considering the job was fun and i got half off food. I spent about 250-300 a month for my mom and I to eat.

I worked as a waiter for a while at Waffle House, and one thing I want to add is that they do sell every single produce and meats in bulk. And shopping at waffle house can be cheaper than going to your local Supermarket. Whole Pies Eggs Milk Waffle Mix Hashbrowns Bacon Sausage Ham Country Ham Steak Grilled Chicken Hamburger Patties Loaves of Bread Buns And even fresh vegetables are all available for purchase. Just make sure there's an actual member of management there.

MrMisterPS Jackie that's a smart move with waffle house. They can pretty much profit on the items that they won't be using by selling it. But as for the Customer buying those items from them, couldn't you get a better deal by purchasing those same bulk items from Costcos or Sam's club?

I'm a Californian and my first W/H experience was while I served as an officer in the Marine Corps. The first time I ate at W/H was at the Navy Blvd location near Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida in Oct 1982. There was a short-order cook there named Johhny. This guy was quick and efficient...and the food was fantastic. I remember going in there many times on Saturday mornings after Friday evenings at the bars at The Seville Quarter 😉 I'd place my order, then grab the sports page of the Atlanta Constitution-Journal...before I got to the second page, Johhny was placing my food in front of me. Amazing! Now, that I live in the Long Beach, CA area, I can only visit the W/H when I visit family and friends in Phoenix, Arizona. There are no W/Hs in California (to my knowledge), so there are the closest locations. I always stop for one breakfast on the day I return to SoCal, and I always get my grits. Great food and service! 😎🍵🍳🥓🍞

There are four "dog food diners" that I absolutely REFUSE to patronize 1. Taco Bell- I lived in South Texas for 12 years and ate a lot of authentic Tex-Mex and Mexican food. Taco Bell is garbage compared to the real thing. 2. Denny's- Ate there twice. The first time I ordered Chicken Pot Pie. What I got was a mess of thin gravy, peas, carrot, and corn, and cubes of chicken meat served on a PLATE with an oblong piece of what looked and tasted like hard tack plopped on top. Gave it one more chance for breakfast. Service was slow, eggs were cold, and if the bacon were cut any thinner they would have had to lather it before cutting it. 3. Hardee's -Carl's Junior- I used to go to Carl's Jr. in the 70's when I was in the service and the food was pretty good. Tried it again in the late 80's and it was horrible. A few years ago when they initiated a new menu I tried it once more. I would advise the owners if they are going to come out with signature burgers they might want to teach their staff how to COOK one. 4. Waffle House. Stopped in a Waffle House outside St. Louis in the 70's while travelling from Texas to Illinois for Christmas. Since we had driven straight through from San Antonio, it was time to take a break for breakfast at 5:00 a,m. The floor was sticky, the menus were sticky, the place was grimy and the food was just a little better that the frozen waffles you can buy at the grocery store except that they were so thin they could be better used for place mats. These four are on my permanent F- - - It list from now on.
