Carnivals and fairs in the US get a bad rap, they are often seen as less interesting and lower quality than their European counterparts. But this stereotype isn't always the case, some US showmen and companies own some spectacular rides, some even own unique rides that can only be found on this side of the Atlantic.

Small correction: I mistakenly called the Larson hi-roller the only American made ride on this list. The chance rotor is also an American made ride.

There are 3 technical park pegauses. It just so happens that 2 of them share the same name and lighting scheme (delusion). One is owned North American Midway and the other by Dreamland Amusements

Some of my favorites: -KMG Speed provides such unique flipping sensations I can't get anywhere else and I can literally feel my stomach sloshing around -KMG Fireball is also pretty intense too, feeling more forceful than those large Frisbee rides. Also been on a larger variant of that at Myrtle Beach -KMG inversion. It was too hot for me to enjoy to its fullest on the one time I had a chance to ride one but I feel like otherwise it would have been a favorite.

I LOVE Kissel rides. As you said, the floor of Big Kahuna not working is a temporary issue, I'm sure. They're usually on top of maintenance and repairs like that, so it was likely a part they had to find/make as it's rare and the last of it's kind ride

I remember when the RCS Tango had footrests which were absolutely awful to the experience, lol, as you legs would bang into them through the cycle. Otherwise it's actually such a fun ride and cycle, it'll totally make you feel like you are about to fly off the ride and get super dizzy. RCS had an Experience that was super fun esp when it started the basic spin. Their OMG is a total blast, you feel like you are about to be slammed to the ground through the cycle. Bishop used to travel with RCS with their Evolution too, and that was such an interesting experience. Intense and dizzying. It hasn't traveled together in a while at least to the LA County Fair. Moonraker did show up at the OC Fair with RCS but that was a couple years ago. Sadge. When Hexentanza was at Knotts as Tampico Tumbler, it was the best flat ride ever, super fun and dynamic. So many moments of negative G's.

Rcs does some of the local fairs around here. Their tango could really use some love as the back drop as gotten very faded over the years. I also miss when the RCS midway used to have Evolution, Experience, Hard Rock, Spin Out, Kamikaze, Inverter and Chaos. Their miday was really extreme back in the late 2000s when they had all these rides. The KMG Experience and the Fabbri Hard Rock being some of my favorites.

we still have the hard rock and kamikaze here in aus!!! if you really wanna go here just for the rides, i'd go to melbourne or sydney, don't go to adelaide because they have very strict safety laws, so you won't see any kmg xxl or orbiter models (at least not officially)

It should also be noted that there are several other examples outside of this list. Butler amusements also operates a KMG move it in addition to an energy storm (while currently being solid by zamperla I believe it was originally manufactured by somebody else). There are also a whole bunch of inversions that operate (although not as well as their european counterparts as most don't unlock the flipping seats). As another commenter mentioned, a KMG X drive, breakdance, and mondial escape are all coming/new to the US. Furthermore, there is a moser rides speed flip going to city of fun carnivals

Sadly they haven’t brought their tango to my county fair but they do bring it to the state fair. I'm lucky enough that I have been on all these rides (although my Hexentanz experience was at Knott's, not a carnival). RCS Tango really does have a great cycle. Shake is a personal fave. Only did a High Roller once decades ago, but I still remember it well to this day. Before we boarded, the ride op asked us two things: have you eaten lunch (no), and have you seen what this ride does (yes!). The craziest part of that ride is how insanely close you get to the people you face on the turns... you're literally inches away from them

The Hexentanz is actually super underrated. If the operator really uses the rides full potential that thing delivers more airtime than any rollercoaster you’ll ever be on. I’m from Germany though. Some thoughts about this list: (10) - Last 'Rotor' I went on was the MN State Fair, many years ago. Pretty awesome retro experience (9) - Reithoffer's used to bring this to my local carnival (St. Michael's); haven't seen it recently, which saddens me (8) - Reithoffer's has had its "Tornado"-named Flipper ride for some time now; I still ride it every chance I get. Just an incredible ride! (7) - Never seen one of these up close (6) - I've been on this at the Mall of America; I haven't been back there in some time. An interesting ride, though I never liked seeing a few cars stationary and broken; it takes away from the visual asthetic (5) - I forget the name of the ride provider, but I've been on "Delusion" at another local (for me) carnival. Another fun ride that I always ride when given the chance (4) - Casino Pier at Seaside Heights NJ once had one of these; I absolutely LOVED the ride and sorely miss it. A different version was once at SF Great Adventure, but I never had the chance to ride it (it was also down for whatever reason), and now that one is in St. Louis, too far for me to travel. I have never seen this at a carnival (3) This is my 'bucket list' flatride ... I have never seen one up close (and yet I'll see an ad that shows the ride), and I would LOVE to try it. (I would compare it more to a Round-Up than an Enterprise, personally.) (2) Still my all-time favorite flatride, even if I haven't ridden it since my last trip to the MN State Fair. Would love another go at some point (1) Jeebus, this one's insane! (Also, you *better* secure your belongings before riding!) Haven't been on one recently, but it's a crazy ride to say the least! No mention of the Top Scan, I see ... I've been on "Space Roller" at both the MN State Fair and the Meadowlands State Fair, and it's another phenomenal flatride! Finally, I feel like no 'Top 10' list of this sort should overlook the classic "Zipper". Loved this video!

I definitely miss the fabbri crazy dance! When we had it, in the middle to late 90’s at the Kentucky State Fair in Louisville, it was the version which had the dice structure in the center and featured the rising plate where it went up and down, in the back, multiple times going both clockwise and counterclockwise. Each up and down cycle would have it rise up slowly until it reached maximum height, then you would hear the air release, and it would immediately come back down. This would repeat several times each for both directions. It was always a nice, long ride and always thrilling, and I would ride it multiple times every time I would go. I don’t know if any fairs still have it, or what the status of it’s existence is, but I would love for the “fair gods”, if any such exist (wishful thinking), to bring it back.

Also if it's old enough I have ben on that thing in the 80's as a little fella. We were all over the U.S.A. as a child. We moved and insane amount and just traveled too much also. We went to all the major theme parks and a ton of more local large parks and a ton of traveling carnivals and fairs. And we went fishing alot. I may have liked the fishing in a few places better than the parks. Oh and that Flipper thing and many like it was really big in the 80's at the smaller local and traveling things. They died down before the 90's though. I did not see them after that at all.

Not going to lie, this video only made a stronger case for American fairs being second rate…

ok ok ok .. the very 1st one, the ufo, ya it looks boring . but I can't believe I forgot this and wish these kids actually did something. so the force of the spin holds you to the wall. we used to slide up the wall and go upside down . though you had to make sure to not still be upside down when it started to slow down. they also had one that each person had a soft slot that moved up and down. oh my goodness I miss this. I seen one about 10 years ago at a haunted house. I wish I rode it then . but I would give anything to ride this even at my age.

I've been to most of the fairs in Ohio and have only seen a Gravitron at a handful of them.

I rode the RCS Tango at the L.A. County Fair this year and what a mistake that was. It was possibly the worst ride experience of my life. I left with extreme pain on both my shoulders and I couldn't feel my entire left arm. My shoulder pain persisted for almost a week. It's without a doubt the worst ride I've ever been on.

A Larson High Roller at #1 - surely you can't be serious? Pretty much any ride from Huss, KMG or Mondial would be higher up than this - including some you mentioned such as Shake and Tango. Surely you must have at least one Breakdance over there?

I swear, all of these would just make me projectile vomit. What was it the Simpsons called them, the Happy-Go-Pukey? Anyhow, what about carnival dark rides? I've always loved the stupid, goofy things, but as time goes on, there's fewer and fewer. It's gotten to where a given carnival may not even have one! Are they just not being made anymore? Too hard to maintain? (Too many people afraid of finding a body?) I miss them!
