I have a velcro dog. A poodle. This is not necessarily a good thing. We’ve been working on her independence and confidence but she’ll still come find me quickly if I go to another room and don’t come back right away. She’ll also whine sometimes when I go to the bathroom and leave her food unfinished if I’m not there with her. This is more like a characteristic to look out for than to actively seek unless you actually plan to form a working team with your dog, as in they’re a service dog or something.

French bulldogs are one of the baddest velcro dogs and can massively suffer from separation anxiety as well. They literally follow everywhere like a shadow.

You were 100% right about Shelties. I have a Sheltie/Shiba Inu mix and she is just like that. All over me half the time and the other half she's in the room with me and follows me when I leave the room.

My sister's Sheltie went to school with her every day. She taught Kindergarten and Maggie was a fixture in her classroom. Until the kids got too mean. Fine for years, the kids coming in were meaner and less in control of themselves every year until she just couldn't subject that dear, dear dog to it. She would even try to get the 2 month old perched in his seat to play. She'd put her knotted sock in his hand so he could toss it for her to fetch. So gentle. My longhaired dachshund showed up, dumped and young, on my doorstep. He hasn't left my side for 9 years. I wouldn't have it any other way. My (other) sister would. We live together and Bud howls the entire time if I leave home without him.

He's in his usual spot. Curled against my left hip. He wants to be with his family. If I'm busy on my feet Bud goes and hangs out with my seated sister (hoping for a lap to warm. He's so good at it!). If he doesn't get his snuggle time to peacefully nap with his sedentary mama he follows me around trying to keep his eyes open. My sweet boy is slowing down a bit. Our last move took him time to recover trying to keep track of us in that huge house we were packing up. He was so sore and exhausted by the time moving day was over. So were we! He's 10, she's 78 and I'm 66. We all have significant orthopedic issues and arthritis. We groaned for days!

My labrador/vizsla mixture wants to be close to me all the time. She loves to sleep next to me in the sofa when I'm working and always wants to have body contact (preferably to have her nose in my lap, so I can't sneak away without waking her up). It fantastic but also problematic because I sometimes need to leave her alone, and she hates to be alone or in an enclosure. Then she starts barking. That’s the only time she barks.
