@@BoundlessxArts there's also a card with ward - sac a food in bloomburrow. (though in that card's case it makes all creatures foods, so it's effectively sac a creature or food)

i think since it is in the set with all those wall glyphs, the "protection" on wall of shadows was a partial downside on purpose. it's a nongreen creature in early magic, it's gotta have a downside somewhere

If you can make lavabrink venturers etb trigger twice with something like roaming throne, you can pick both for protection from everything

This actually doesn't work. Lavabrink is an "as this enters" ability, not a "when this enters". This means it's a replacement effect, not a triggered ability, specifically so it can't trigger multiple times.

it should be mentioned in sauron's case, that in the LotR set, there were a lot of legendary creatures (or at least i feel like it had a lot?) and i think also more than enough legendary artifacts. So in those matches, it wasn't too hard for other LotR decks to have a legendary creature/artifact out to get rid of sauron (is at least how i remember it ^^')

Lotr also the "ring bearer" mechanic that makes any creature legendary if applied to them

Its ward cost is designed to make you eventually sacrifice your ring bearer and considering how powerful some creatures can get with ring bearer it makes good sense. Not just gameplay wise but theme wise as well

I know it doesn't protect itself but I'm surprized Vigor isn't on this list. Has 2 protection options. All creatures you control get +1/+1 counters instead of damage and Vigor shuffles back if they kill it any way but exile. Very nice card. Used it in an old G/W ramp/tokens deck. Granted I played casually but pyroclasm and other mass damage effects were common and my friends couldn't play any of their burn spells 🤣🤣🤣 I miss the old casual days... Mtg is soo complicated now. No one just goes to a card store, buys cheap cards they like and makes a deck anymore. Everyone netdecks. No one has unique creations, everything follows a meta and it's just lame at the end of the day 🤷‍♂️ I know my cleric, changeling infinite spells/creatures with Hakkon, Edgewalker and Undead Warchief isn't winning any tournaments but the deck is mine. I thought it up, it functions, has combos, synergies, and Edgewalker is my favorite MTG card of all time. A unique ability that will never be used again I'm sure. Making your entire cleric deck run off generic mana is rediculous.

I love Norin the Wary so much. He's my favorite commander, one of the first ones I built in paper, because he really is just built around getting as many ETBs per round as possible. And with both MH3 AND Bloomburrow giving us new creatures that are Impact Tremors on a body, my deck can run plenty of them to immediately threatening potential, doubly so when combined with Genesis Chamber as mentioned

I have a card that has Ward- Collect Evidence 4, with death touch and haste. It's the only card with ward I've seen that has a weird condition like these. Even though it can be easy to out the card if you set up your graveyard, if it's early in the game enough this thing can be a menacing threat.

Since it has emerge, my guess for Drownyard Behemoth is that if your opponent tries to destroy one of your big things, you can sacrifice it yourself to cheat Behemoth out and thanks to hexproof it can block safely or something. Idk, thats the only explanation for giving it hexproof for only the turn I can think off.

No it's not, wizards means everything. Nothing that targets a creature can target Progenisis, you can't block it, and it can't be dealt damage.

You should have said "Evasion" not "Protection." "Protection from" is a thing and is what I thought this video was about. "Evasion" is used in Magic almost exclusively to refer to abilities that make a creature unable to be blocked by things (Flying, Shadow, etc). Funnily enough, because part of its effect is that it can't be blocked by certain things, Protection counts as a form of evasion!

7:55 Haktos seems the attempt from WotC (and Hasbro as well) to say "no no, we are not into power creep. See? a 6/1 for 4 colored mana that is basically a vanilla with just some protection. It don't even have protection from mana value 1! See? No power creep at all!" Well .... _cough cough Elder Gargaroth cough cough Questing Beast cough cough_ Anyway, protection should be come at a cost, as well as downsides should not just be tossed apart. There's a design space totally thrown out of the window.
