The VOICE! I was blessed to meet her on June 12, 1998, my 11th birthday. My school changed it's name to be named after her. The Whitney E. Houston Academy of Creative and Performing Arts. We had the same teachers! I lived around the corner from her childhood home.

She was not singing live. It was pre-recorded due to fear the echo in the stadium and the jets would be too distracting for her. It was studio recorded the day before. “Although Houston was singing live, she was singing into a dead microphone, and television viewers were hearing a non-live pre-recorded version of the anthem due to her musical director making her aware of the risks of performing live, including the sound of the crowd, jets flying overhead, and other such distractions from pregame activities.”
