That OneRepublic album is so sad. Even their most poppiest album, Oh My My, was pretty darn good and showed that a shift away from their string filled pop rock sound to a more straight up pop sound could work effectively. And then they drop Human, an album that sounds so bad that I have only heard clips and don't want to ruin my image of the band by listening in full. Based on my experience with ok orchestra (I haven’t heard their previous albums), the lyrics would also have to mature instead of putting the silliness on overdrive. That Pale Waves follow up really stung...probably my most disappointing album of 2021. I really dug the 80's goth Cure-inspired with a 1975 twist indie pop they gave us on their debut. It was messy at times with far too many tracks but it still a record full of absolute bops. I saw the potential for something even better and was excited to see how they were going to evolve. What I wasn't fucking expecting was a bad Alanis Morrissette and Avril Lavigne impression. Oof.

I was expecting Flowers For Vases by Hayley Williams to feature here. I actually think it has a lot of the same problems as Solar Power: it's a slog in places, most songs are too short, too incomplete, too lifeless in some cases. But one can forgive Hayley more easily since she wrote and played all the instruments by herself, while Lorde was working with Jack fucking Antonoff.

Tbh I don't think I heard an album I totally hated, lot of those on your list weren't exactly great but I havent heard all of them. I would maybe add Medicine at midnight by Foo Fighters, that one was a bit boring to me. Even Solar Power had its strong moments and the Bleachers album was pretty ok imo.

Coldplay and Maroon 5 are the unbuttered toast or beige paint of music, respectively: I’m surprised if anyone calls it their favorite, and assume they have no taste. Lorde’s and Kacey Musgraves’ new albums were deeply disappointing, “Pure Heroine” and “Golden Hour” live rent-free in my mind and their recent products are so bland and generic.
@NowhereMan72 жыл бұрын
Coldplays first album is good are the second is great - a modern classic even. The third was disappointing and then I lost track because everything I heard since sounded so cheesy and lame. Maroon 5 have been sellouts since day 1. If you took all the supermarkets in the world and could find out which artist had the most airtime over the past 20 years Maroon 5 would win by miles I'm sure (probably followed up by Pink or Kelly Clarkson). Noone that likes music likes Maroon 5 I swear.

@tylerpoirier36993 жыл бұрын
My thoughts: Coldplay: OOF (i agree though mostly) Drake: Wish there was razzies for music, he deserves almost all of them Musgraves: Whatever Jordi: I would say is their 2nd weakest effort, Red Pill Blues was even less them to me. Pale Waves: Well its no wonder I didnt know about them AJR: It was a thing, and Ok Human was better Hobo Johnson: This was interesting, I had no clue this guy existed, it was educational Lorde: Agreed, absolutely I concur One Republic: I dont understand what happened to writers like Ryan Tedder, they used to have a fire that dominated, and deserved it, but now they are mostly tasteless TOP: Was good, not their best, but I have come back to it Offspring: Ummm, OK Tones & I: Well, I guess youve joined the madhouse then. Jack: ehh AFI: True, not like Im a big fan anyway ADTR: It was, iffy, I liked parts of every song, and hated other parts of every song

The worst/disappointing album of 2021 to me is Scaled and Icy by Twenty One Pilots, had a few songs on there that are really good like Shy Away but the rest was just forgettable, they could've done better :(
@if35303 жыл бұрын
Yeah totally agree, even with the whole story about dema controlling them. That doesn’t excuse the fact that they still made their most derivative and forgettable album to date. Even if it’s for story purposes. I’ve always loved how they were able to bring something unique to their earlier albums.
@justnolan95033 жыл бұрын
I’m not really a Twenty One Pilots fan so I don’t feel as strongly but that album was really dull and boring outside of (like you said) Shy Away and Redecorate.
