Misairuzame is actually REALLY good in Kairyu-Shin decks. It’s a Level 5 Normal Monster that’s summonable by Marincess, Abyss Keeper and many of the support cards you’d already be playing. This makes it great for Xyz plays and Link climbing

Flying Fish always confused me as a kid. I thought there had to be a reason it was so bad and still a 4 star monster, like maybe there was an equip spell card that only worked on it to make it stronger but no it just sucked to suck

Sometimes the fun part of Yugioh is finding SOME card combo that makes that particular card stand out or work (I call them "Flying Elephant duels" out of respect for Flying Elephant having arguably the most rediculous alt win condition that's a serious spectacle to see pulled off in a legit game), but alas, there are some cards that no matter how you look at it, it's objectively worse than everything else, either due to there literally being no support to take advantage of it's unique set up or the fact that any combo you do for that card is in all ways outclassed by another card. Heck even having less than 1500 attack power IS a benefit because some cards can special summon or search monsters with less than 1500 attack (like Sangen) so having like 1550 attack power is actually far worse than 1500. And like Duellogs said, if you build your deck around banishing monsters, the banish effect can actually generate interesting advantage, since very few cards interact with the banish zone, even self inflicted. But yeah, some cards like Dark Artist are just worse than bad...as after all, Normal monsters have a TON of useful support that can lead to easier XYZ plays (Gladiator Beast Andal is arguably one of the most useful because you run Rescue Rabbit or Unexpected Dai, you have a guaranteed opening SIMPLY because it's a glad beast. Plus it has above average attack for a level 4 at 1900 with decent defense. Glad beasts are one of the most well thought out archetypes, though it had to be given your entire DECK is your hand...XD Yes I main them.)

I will always love the WIND Banish Fish/Aqua/Sea Serpent cards for no other reason than I love how strange they are. They have such an anime gimmicky play style despite never being used in any media. I don’t even think any generic characters use them in video games. It’s one of those “this deck is so bad, but I am having fun casually using it” decks for me.

God, I hate that Yugioh is in a place where a deck is bad because it needs 2 turns to set up. This game needs a full reset

Well even in the early days requrining a 2 turn set up is bad because of the plethora of spells and traps that could stop you dead. It's just the game was slow enough that you were more likely to pull off the 2 turns of set up or make a comeback after your plan failed. The problem is how unbalanced the consistency is. I will say in Duel links, about half the duels end on the first turn and half of them can go on to the later turns IF your opponent counters your strategies well enough and vice versa. It's also about 50/50 that you'll be the one finishing the duel turn one due to the opponent drawing a bad hand, or you losing turn one due to drawing a bad hand. The problem with the state of the game though is that some decks are so ultra consistent AND powerful with thier comboes that there's literally no reason to play anything else. Most of the failed archetypes aren't bad because they're just bad, but a lot of them are bad because "another deck is better" or a "stronger deck" got their main play maker banned. and while you could just "build your deck to counter the meta" most top players already do that by countering "Meta" with "other meta", cause of how ludicris the effects of new monsters are AND the entire Link mechanic having NO innate weakness like the other mechanics do.... so nothing stopping you from linking off a poisoned monster (I guess being forced in attack IS a weakness, but it also negates cards that force it to defense mode, where EVERY other card would be destroyed or worse if the effect went off, like sending an Extra deck monster back to the "hand" will result in it going back to the extra deck, a far worse punishment than the graveyard. So why do Links get a free pass when book of moon'd?) Links need a weakness.... fortuantely Duel links was careful to only add weaker link cards and the smaller board and slower game pace makes it harder to make good use of the more powerful generic boss monsters. So you don't really see Link monsters nullifying every strategy. and finally, We got the reset with Rush Duel and it is fantastic! It's basically classic yugioh but WAY faster paced and it's a lot of fun. You can play a variant of it in Duel Links, the most accessable form of it if you're not living in Japan.

@MarioMastar Every time I try to get back into the game, I bump into a guy who takes 10+ minutes for his first turn, and if I don't have a hand trap to stop him thr games over. Games are simultaneously much shorter and much longer, and I just don't find it fun anymore. We're in a state where field spells are so broken we need searchers for them banned. And the game is balanced around your opponents ability to stop your plays before you make them. But since thats so strong they make your plays game winning on turn one Not to mention most decks nowadays cost upwards of 600 dollars. I made an IRL yubel deck recently, and between pulls and buying individual cards it was easily 400 dollars. And it woulda been more if I bought the $120 staple card every viable deck needs. I've played yugioh for more than 15 years now. And the way the game is now just has killed all my joy for it. I legit want to see something like how pokemon does it now. Just make a new set and rebalance it all

I'm surprised Submersible Carrier Aero Shark isn't here. A rank 3 that has a detach for burn damage based on the number of your banished monsters. And it's 100 points of damage for each, having to make a deck that forces a specific situation or play against a deck that focuses on banishing your cards. It's a bad rank 3 that is easily replaced. Oh did I mention this card is a once per turn. The Anime effect is way more useful, detach a material for a 200 point burn for every card in your own hand at a once per turn.

It's not on the list because it has arguably the coolest artwork and summoning animation in the entire series! XD Sadly it's even worse in Duel LInks where it does a paltry 50 burn damage....in all my years of dueling, that situation where 50 life points was the only thing keeping my opponent alive came up ONCE....and I finished them off next turn anyway (I don't remember how they got to 50). But yeah, seeing those double sharks swimming up the screen as Shark calls them out is almost up there with Superdreadnaught Cannon Train Gustav Max in terms of awesome name and presentation. Shame they're on the opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of usefulness....

I find ghoti to be super underrated. When they go off they go crazy (as long as you built the deck right). That's the thing though they need to go off. They struggle in consistency and since theirs not technically any real one card combos the deck isn't too hard to stop with handtraps. That being said they are great (WHEN THEY WORK) against tenpai. Seeing as deep can banish the entire board field spell dragons and all. In an ideal board you can easily end on a spell or trap negate, full ghoti line, banish and destruction protection with an extra banish from ice jade, and a pop that keeps coming back with Kragen. Its rather good and very fun.

Pretty sure the strat with Big Jaws is to promote Rank 3 XYZ summons. It has good stats for a level 3, but its effect discourages you from attacking, so it’s supposed to just sit there and look pretty for a turn or 2 until you get another level 3 on the board. It also came out during the early days of the XYZ era.

Fortress Whale was always one of my favourite monsters. Citadel Whale was my favourite deck in Duel Links.

I have to disagree on Man-Eating Black Shark. Before the retrain it was the best target for instant fusion when using water rank 5 decks, which was relevant for No. 94 Crystalzero which you could overlay with Full Armored Crystalzero Lancer! I think I used it in a DES Frog OTK deck where if I didn't get the OTK, the rank 5 water plays were a nice 2nd wincon

Granted with ready fusion now it is definitely the worst of the level 5 fish fusions if you're not counting cards being better in the past

To be fair Misairuzame can be good really because his 1400 atk, with Mother Grizzly you can Float into him and using Inferno Reckless summon you can have 3 Level 5 bodies on field to use as XYZ or other extra deck Simmons, I Know is situational and Inferno Reckless Simmons from your oponent too, but It is a strategy to use him (and, on Duelists of the Roses, It is One of the easiest Monsters If you want a Fish Deckleader because It is a Fusion with a Fish and a Machine, Marine Beast needs specifically Crazy Fish and a Beast).

Actually, the fusion materials for Marine Beast in that game are Rare Fish and an aqua card. It's Rare Fish you're thinking of that needs a beast material: more specifically, you need a beast + a fish, and one of them needs 1350+ attack. I know this because I specifically chose Marine Beast as my fish deck leader to rank up because it was the only level 5 fish fusion that had 1500+ attack, meaning that with a specific setup, you can potentially prevent your opponent from playing anything while you grind ranks for your DL, since your opponent will want to play the strongest monster they can, but won't if they can only play in on a crush terrain tile

if they did some kind of Ritual archetype that was based around using ANY of the old normal rituals rather than just specific ones like Nox/Voiceless Vox or Hungry Burger archetype, I think original Fortress Whale could possibly, maybe? see play? haha. It's probably the only thing I can think of

Misairuzame is a level 5 with less than 1500 atk, so it can be cheated out with Mother Grizzly. It's not great, but it's not useless, and there are definitely worse fish out there.
