I think its overblown, most people who crap on these games dont even play them, and most people who dont play sports games now only think that buying packs is all that those games have. I might be in minority, but I only care about single player modes in sports games, to get man manager fantasy fix. and those modes are pretty good, even for people who enjoy ultimate team modes, most people do not spend money on it and still enjoy it greatly. Sports games arent as bad as everyone claim nowadays, and not all sport gamers are idiot sheeps.

You know what, Joe? I just remembered a story that upset me even more at Bethesda at the time. A friend of mine preordered Fallout 76 for his son. Kid had done great in school this year and the premium preorder edition with the helmet and everything was his reward. This kid not only got a crappy christmas morning gaming experience (after the high point of seeing the special edition under the tree), he then found his only IRL friend that was playing it quickly stopped after his frustrations with trying to get the game to work right, although, admittedly his computer needed a serious upgrade. I know this because on Dec 30th at 8pm, I'm on the phone with my buddy, who is over at his son's friend's house, trying to get his computer playing the game so his son isn't sitting there playing all alone with strangers and has at least one friend who wasn't an asshole duping rare items and the like. You KNOW you love your kid when you first hand drive over to another kid's house, whose parents you haven't even officially met yet, to troubleshoot and fix their antiquated (by computer standards) equipment. Then call another buddy of yours to consult. Fuck you Bethesda. Not only did you put out this half formed diarrhea as a full price game and lied to your fans about what they get in special editions, but you ruined I don't know how many christmases. THAT is unforgivable, imho. It truly shows your disgusting greed, lack of respect for your fans, and your absolute laziness in your development cycle and lack of care for your own IP's. Disgraceful. Shameful Display!

The icing on the shit cake was after a week of trying to play with his friend, the one thing that might salvage a little fun for him, it ended like this. Yeah his computer was a tad older, but his hardware runs other AAA games alright so I really think it was the game. And it just would just time out every single time. But I said that cuz there's a small chance it might've been the hardware and even in my critiques I try to be fair. But yeah everything else I lay squarely at Bethesda's feet.

I miss all the older games on PC, ps2 & Nintendo, not just because the amount of 2-4 player games, but because pay to win or progress didn't exist, you had to put the time and effort to progress & unlock new things, Mario Kart or Diablo 2 are great examples, the game can get challenging but you're rewarded with new stuff, like characters or better items.

Regarding Crying Is Not Enough: Whilst I haven't played the game, I happened to meet the two people who made it in a games convention here in Athens. I believe they actually had no idea about game development, 3D modeling and anything really that is involved in such an endeavor, they learned it all off of tutorial videos within those 5 years - they were really starting from scratch and with practically zero budget (it shows!). I'm not excusing the state of the game or defending them btw, just wanted to relate that little factoid. I was surprised that they even managed to release it, even in this sorry state. I didn't know that they stopped working on it and that the price remained 20 bucks though. Game development in my country is practically non-existent and there seem to be zero investors interested in backing such projects. Which is what saddened me in this convention. These two guys who made Crying were older and looked overworked, jaded and just plain exhausted... But I saw a lot of fresh faced young devs in their twenties, full of hope and excitement, trying their best to live their dream in a country that is ignorant at best (and hostile at at worst) to gaming and cannot appreciate just how much it takes to make even a simple game. With nothing to back them up though, no state to speak of and no private sector interest either, not to mention a social stigma on games... I don't know. Thanks for all your hard work over the years Joe(s), and special mention to Del for his Rapid-fire Reviews which are getting better all the time :)

The lack of people or experience is no excuse! There's plenty of great games out there that were made by a single person who had to learn everything from scratch regarding game development. Like Cave Story or Undertale. They simply didn't bother that their game is going to suck when they finally release it. It must have been pretty clear early on that they will never be able to release a polished game but made it anyway.

Thanks for putting Sports games on the list. Been saying the same thing for years now. There is no more effort put into anything besides how to monetize UT modes more. Its a shame. Once sports games were amazing from both sp and mp perspective. And you are right, these business methods spill elsewhere, corrupting other genres as well. Frankly, sports games today with this business model and minimalistic SP modes should be free to play. Foreseeable future is not bright at all. Just look at most downloaded games on PS4 for 2018. COD trash ahead of masterpieces such as RDR2, GOW (my favourite) and Spiderman. On the list as well are NBA 2k19, fifa 19 and madden 19. Now add on top that microtransactions and you get to a conclusion that Acti, EA, Ubi, Take2, WB, bethesda, Konami and the rest of the scumbags are not going anywhere anytime soon.

i agree with you 99%, but not in the last sentence. I am a pessimist, but i truly believe we can fight back hard enough. I truly believe, that EA will either make good games again or shut down at some point. Starting with their smallest businesses. Same goes for the other companies. Games like Battlefront 2 and BF5 need to be successful for EA, and it didnt work this year. Yay. Microtransactions tho, they arent going anywhere..

People do forget that primary EA revenue comes from sports games. I still remember working in Amazon warehouse in october 2015 (FIFA premiere month back then). Entire stacks of FIFAs went to order, while other games barely moved. That gave me two lessons:1. as long EA have FIFA, they can run to ground whatever franchise or/and studio they want and still make profits; 2. A gaming platform that don't have FIFA will never win or succed (that's why I'm still thinking, that in long run Switch will never be as successfull as other console and is doomed to remain in niche market).

I agree. For me, If the boys were fans of FNAF of some sort. A ANGRY review of Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach would’ve been legendary for the state it was in back then. Okay, I did remember them playing FNAF, and Alex played Security Breach that could've been a Rapid Fire Review, but I felt like Security Breach at the time would've been better as a Angry Review. The saddest part is that what happened to gaming industry is ultimately fault of players who kept buying loot boxes, cards, packs, etc...
